Courage requires fear.

so then courage is synonymous with bravery?

Courage is the gas in the bravery engine.

that's a good one, i like that. I'm still hung up on the nobility aspect of it. When i think of courage it seems like there has to be a noble cause for the action. its brave to free solo el cap. its courageous to free solo el cap because that's the only way to get the life saving antidote. might be a difference with out a distinction, i dunno.

Lots of stuff is courageous without being particularly noble or remarkable. Getting up every day and repeatedly attempting to be courteous and respectful to others takes courage, for example.

Taunting shouldn’t be a penalty if the player’s team is up by at least three scores.

How far outside the rules would an action have to be on a football field or basketball court before it is treated as a crime?

Punching someone is not in any way a part of either game, but it also seems that it isn’t assault since I haven’t heard of anyone being arrested for it during a game.

how severe does it have to be?  What if you poked an eye out while having illegal hands to the face?  What if you intentionally undercut a player dunking and it kills someone?  Its not part of the game by definition, since its a penalty, would it be murder?

I think something approaching "outrageous" or "shocks the conscience" would be required.

If I get emotionally caught up in traffic and run someone into the ditch and they got severely hurt, I am going to jail. If the same thing happens outside the agreed rules in sports, the person gets ejected for the remainder of the game, sometimes, and the presser then describes them as a fierce competitor.

How crazy would it have to be for charges to be filed?

honest question: is there anything stopping the aggreived player from pressing charges? Maybe they sign some kind of waiver when they join the team stating they won't take legal action as a result of on-field injuries but i doubt it. I'm guessing the only reason they don't press charges is like, mutually assured destruction reasons

During an altercation with the police, or any other version of the State, at what point are you legally allowed to react in self defense?
