what was out of line was worring every one that receive that text about a person that MAY be armed and was last seen several blocks from campus 3 or 4 hrs ago. Now if said guy told someone he was going to shoot up some coeds then different story.

So stormy by nature is warning folks about a text the U sends out. If the text is irresponsible then go to the source- KSU. If my loved ones were still on campus I would warn them but in your eyes thats irresponsible?

I don't see a threat here. Unless they have information that he was on or near campus with a weapon then send the alert and lock down campus. He is wanted for a non felony drug charge not murder, rape, or even a felony. I bet that there is at least one person work for or a student of KSU that is wanted for a simular charge. Now I guess I will cover my butt is saying that the facts at hand imho don't need this kind of attention but I believe that this was not a proper use of the alert system.

I for one have found the last couple alerts humorous. This one they are saying do not approach hooker who may be armed and dangerous. And last night at 2:30 an assault happened in which a woman was bit on campus. Sounds like to me vampires and hookers are taking over manhattan.

because of the VT murders this system was put in place to warn of ON campus threats. It was later expanded to weather alerts. I have no problem with the system when not abused. Unless more comes out this Hooker guy is not a threat to any students

My guess is that the RCPD didn't know for sure whether he was armed or not.

I also suspect that in addition to providing a warning, the primary purpose of the text alert was to help RCPD get tips on his location. The txt alert put thousands on notice to look for this guy and report his location while instructing not to approach him. Sounds like good police work to me.

Also, stormy, I don't think you're qualified to determine "what is necessary and what is not necessary" for this system. I'd guess that's out of your pay grade.

over use of this good system will lead to a cry wolf situation. This was the kid crying wolf when he saw the shape of one on a hill side a mile away. I hope they do use it for something more threating than drug user/dealer more than 5 blocks from campus.

it is on the end of sunset where this guy was seen close to anderson. FIJI maybe is very close but not campus. Maybe they should release a little more info on why he is a threat to the campus or student and is going to be the norm for these alerts?
