NCAA 11 offensive and defensive strategy. Video game
« on: August 01, 2010, 06:36:08 PM »
What is your offensive and defensive philosophy on the EA Sports NCAA Football series.

Offense: I usually try to get a decently fast QB(I don't need blazing speed), with decent throwing pwr.  Throwing accuracy isn't very important to me as I usually only throw deep PA passes or short curls and outs, and screens.  I like to run between the tackles and mix in the occasional option(also love to set up the option pass.  Usually load up the playbook with I form normal, I form twins, around 3 shotgun formations, ace big and ace slot, an offset I or 2  and a flex bone, I like to use the ace empty formation in 3 and mid 6-9 situations.

Defense: I run a lot of cover 2 with pressure on passing downs.  Also love to drop back into nickel cover 2 max against user opponents as well as use nickel DE contain.  I user control the FS and rarely switch off to another player.  Usually use a 4-3 base but run a lot of nickel and the occasional dime package.  If I have good corners I pretty much just put them on an island, bring heat (rotating from left right and middle), and let the safeties play center field and clean up the option and running attack.

I think a lot of us who play the games have very similar playing styles as we all grew up watching dynamic KSU teams with Bishop, Roberson etc.  then we incorporate a few outside elements as well.

5 wide, throw to the deepest route.  Pick the reciever before the play.

rough ridin' cheeser.  I would say that I would eat you alive but I haven't really kept up since NCAA 08 on PS2.  I'm just now getting adjusted to the next gen version, I must say the play calling screen in 11 is a big upgrade from the horrid playcalling screens in the first couple of next gen versions.  Still wich they woul let you go back to the old 3x3 pick one of nine plays screen they had on the older versions.

90% of the time I'm I-Formation, usually double tight. I'll use some single back in passing situations. Power-O is completely dominant in NCAA 11. But the counters and misdirections are even better.

My favorite pass play is inside receiver screen.

I just run whatever the computer thinks I should do.

I run the ball a ton, reason being that I can't throw at all.

On defense, you might as well just punt and hope I fumble.

I'm not sure if this is a glitch or not, but has anyone else noticed during Dynasty mode that you get an error message if you try to target a QB recruit with more than 2 stars?   :dunno:

i miss 04, where if you set a guy in motion and audible at the same time, you could direct snap to your receiver.

Yep. Use to do the whole recruit/strategy thing back in college. Don't have time now. And I almost always supersim defense.

Are you K-state?  Maybe they upgraded the AI?

I suggest replacing the error with the QB ultimately picking Auburn or Ole Miss despite all the other quality QBs already on their roster.

Defensively I feel like u have to be in man for passing downs and zone for running plays. Its very frustrating otherwise.

Of the 10 or so playbooks I've tried Alabama's is my fave.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.  I tried switching my dynasty from K-State to Texas and now I only get an error message if I try to target a QB with less than 5 stars.

Apparently the game can't handle unrealistic situations.
