What a terrible contract. I wanted the dude badly, but I'm glad we lost. Hopefully the sox take the $600 million we committed to buy like the 8 players we need.

Soto is only 26 years old.  You lock down a generational player if you can.

Would you say he's a juance in a generation type player?

I don't want this to be sour grapes, I wanted him, and I'm thrilled he isn't in the bronx. However, A Rod, Bryce Harper, and Trout were also generational talents. They have 1 ring in 48 combined seasons. The Mets will need to continue to spend money and outspend the dodgers at that.

16 years is insane.

He has an opt out in 5 years. Think about that. There is a possibility that the market, soto, and his agent will all think he is underpaid in 5 years.

In real money terms it is insane, but since this is how baseball works, it wouldn't surprise me. He's that good. Very little chance he opts out, but who knows. If they go robo strike zone, his OB % will be like .900.

The AAV on the contract isn't _that_ crazy, but 15 years is what it took.  That's the nature of these contracts these days.

I'm ready for Juan Soto to be my next Jesse Winker (in terms of the arc of my feelings towards him)

I missed that. Sluggers sometimes age really fast, we'll see.

Why are we trying to get Bregman? I thought Vientos was really coming into his own

Move him to first, and adios Pete?

Eesh. I hope not. Pete can pick it with the best of em. Like seriously it was amazing how many times he was able to scoop a short hop. His glove is every bit as valuable as his bat, imho

I love Pete, but he's a bit below average as a fielder at first.  He has improved himself there though so I know he works at it.

I'd keep Pete myself and not go after Bregman personally.

That's fair. There are definitely better 1Bmen out there, but Bregman is not an upgrade. I'm not sure I've ever seen him play 1B, and I dont like the idea of moving a guy from The base that gets thrown to the least (by a lot) to the base that gets thrown to the most

I think they'd move vientos to first, he's had more experience there
