I don't get why people dislike Jones so much.

He's really good at running into his own blockers. That's my biggest beef with him. Silmon and Barnes look superior.

I think he was actually more like 7 yards deep.

You're right. 7 yards.

I'd be fine if Jones never saw a touch again.

WTF?

He averages five yards a rush

I mean, this is simply a nonsensical looking thing. I can think of numerous other better options (from this formation) including QB sneak to the right, but even a speed option to the right would have been a better play than crappy inside zone run we tried.

That was my EXACT thought upon seeing the formation vs alignment. He's also got quick hitches on both sides w a 2 or 3 step drop.

Total abortion of a play call that cost us two points.

I was surprised they didn't have Dimel playing in that spot.  As a lead blocker, runner, or decoy, he needs to be in there.

I generally like the WR screen plays but Iowa State started jumping them for a stretch and we kept running it.  I kept hoping that we would run an alternate play set up by a fake screen.  Not surprised that it didn't happen.  Agree that there is a big difference if Pringle is blocking or not.

We have to run a go route off of the screen at some point.

We have to be able to hit a go route in stride for it to be effective.

This. Iowa State was right to start jumping those because Ertz had shown little ability to hit a receiver on a fly route. As long as they keep a safety deep over the top, they weren't in much danger of a stop & go route.
