these alternatives are cool, and I wish I could get on board.  but they need the app support that apple has, much more versatility.

actually kougar 24, it falls into the market for people who want a lightweight/portable netbook-like device but not quite a laptop.    why so confuse, why so confuse?

There are already lightweight, portable devices for the same price that do much more than the iPad. Called laptops. You see, these things have been around for over a decade. They're quite handy, and never once have I thought to myself, "You know, I wish I could have found one of these things that did less, with no physical keyboard, for about the same price as this laptop..."

laptops can be cumbersome and not all that easy to carry around, kougar24.  the move (for every computer manufacturer except the one you own) is to more compact, lightweight, easy to use and portable devices than what most laptops can deliver.
