It's really just 2 different philosophies about how to run a football program. It's no secret that KSU has always modeled its program after an NFL franchise (Dallas). It's why they have huge parking lots for their sell out crowd to tailgate several hours before the game. RV's and elaborate tailgate set ups as far as you can see. It's also why K-State has built basically Jerry World north in Manhattan. Constantly putting up the best, most modern, most aesthetic and income generating facilities in the college game.
Ku has gone with more of a Division II approach. Small crowds, quaint stadium that doesn't take much to keep up. Located by the low income student housing so the kids can roll out of bed and if they remember there is a home game that day they can stroll over to the stadium, yell the F word in public on a few kick offs and hit the Wheel by halftime.
Obviously, KSU likes the way its model works (Titletown) but Kansas seems more than content with theirs as well. Just 2 different methods, neither is necessarily "right"
