Downside to Butler winning?
« on: April 05, 2010, 03:17:31 PM »
I don't really see it.  I mean, some of our more vocal and idiot fans may grumble some about "doing things the right way", but so long as Martin keeps winning, that won't matter.  Moreover, we may see more teams try to employ this slowdown crap which kind of plays in our favor ... we don't need other teams trying to out junkyard kat us.  Let them play it slow and try to muck things up -- we'll oboard them to death (if we aren't exhausted from 2OT thrillers).  Plus, if they win it all, it doesn't make them a better program anymore than NC State's fluke win two and half decades ago did for them.  They're still NC State.  Butler will still be Butler.  They were good enough to win it all once every five generations when the stars aligned perfectly.  Good for them.

I get the sister school thing and all that, but I'm honestly pretty  :dunno: about picking sides tonight.  Just want a good game.

I hate all the Butler talk. I want them to lose by 40.

I'd much rather have been knocked out of the tourney by the National Champs.   Go Bulldogs!

Butler needs to be destroyed and embarrassed.

Yep. Has to be a loss so devastating that it devalues/discredits their entire tourney run. That's the only way I'll be happy.

I subscribe to this.  Better to lose to the champs, than to a team that couldn't make the Elite 8

Whoa whoa whoa.  I can see duke=nazis because nazis=awesome.  That part makes sense.  But any of those =ing jayhawks is giving the jayhawks too much credit.  Way too much.

Nope. Cuz if Butler wins, we become a permanent part of the highlight reel for one of the biggest stories in tourney history. It'll be like watching the Heisman highlights for all the Big 12 QBs back in Prince's last year with us constantly in the background. Only pretty much permanent.

they call this the board of elites, some of the opinions on here beg otherwise.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

That worked out better than being embarrased IMO.

Yeah, kind of gratifying to see a good game then have their hearts broken because the little fuckers thought they might win. Also, I found it surprisingly easy and natural-feeling to root for Duke.

Yeah, kind of gratifying to see a good game then have their hearts broken because the little frackers thought they might win. Also, I found it surprisingly easy and natural-feeling to root for Duke.

I got what I wanted too, because it was a good game.  My personal enjoyment trumps all.

That's got to be the most crushing loss imaginable.  I mean, think back to aTm in '98.  Got to think this was at least equal to that as it stretches the imagination to think that Butler will ever be in this position ever again.  If they had hit one more shot ... their fans will obsess over this for the rest of their natural lives.

You know who has got to be insanely jealous?  Gonzaga and Xavier fans.  They established themselves as the "don't call them a mid-major anymore" programs first, but neither has made it past the Elite 8.

:dunno:  they get basically their entire team back and will win 30+ games next year.  that doesn't mean they'll make it out of the first round of the tourney next year.   but i see them getting a 2 or 3 seed next year which makes their path to the regional final a lot easier than this year.

^ ...and knowing that it gets under the skin of Xavier is just gravy.

Yep.  The stars aligned this year methinks.

If Stevens and Haywood have any sense, they won't be back.
