Ready and WILLing? Troy ADV
« on: December 15, 2013, 07:04:19 PM »

More oboarding, better from 3, and Will goes 4 from 9 from behind the arc. Foster's injury was a scare, but he appears to be alright.

Could this team ready to upset the Zags?

the hardest thing for me to reconcile (season-long) between the stats and watching games is kstate's 3 point defense.  visually, it looks like they give up a ton of very open threes.  statistically, no one can hit a three on them.  we're at 10 games, it's not a meaningless sample size.

generally, i try to believe the stats over my eyes.  i'm having a hard time trusting the stats on this one though.

coaches (teams) have virtually no control over Opp 3%. We've just been lucky. kenpom it for more info.

Yeah, we're winning the lottery right now. The more important number is 3PTA/FGA and Troy was 40% there, so we really won the lottery.

I liked when oscar ripped the team a new one for not being able to score for a long stretch tonight. Yeah oscar, maybe it's because you had Nino, Omari, and DJamer all on the court at the same time. Liked the ball movement when the starters were in tonight.

 :jerk:

Troy could have shot 50% from 3 and we'd still have won comfortably.

if the people that thought troy was a better team than kstate weren't discredited by the score, they surely are now that the tempo-free statistical analysis is complete.

We wrote on the board energy, effort, persistence and play as a team. I think we had great energy and set the tone of the game from the beginning with our defense. We held them to nine points through, I think, the first 18 or 19 minutes of the game. They hit a couple of three-pointers at the end of the half to get to 15, so we did a pretty good job defensively. We controlled the boards, turned them over and were pretty active – much better than we were Tuesday night. And, we really moved the basketball. I think the best stat on the stat sheet is our 24 assists and 28 baskets, so almost every basket we had an assist.

True story. When I read the above quote, it reminded me of the sales lady who told me, when selling me a clothes dryer, "Do you know what the lint in the filter is? It's your clothes!"
