I just want to live some place where I can surf in the morning and then ski in the afternoon.  Too bad no such place exists.

The history angle is mostly bullshit.  There's not much to it.

it's largely irrelevant. Oh cool, Paul Revere was here. I'm so glad I live here.

it's not irrelevant, it's fascinating.  it's the main reason europe is so much nicer than the us.

kansas city has more culture than chicago

I read this book, very good and I typically hate this sort of thing.  It's more than just "mafia."  An amazing collection of characters built KC.  Crazy stuff.

No, it's aesthetics.  That's what you perceive.

History/age can influence a city's architecture, layout, and infrastructure. Historical events can have an impact on how the people behave. It can also do neither.

I want to know that what I'm looking at is authentic and not Epcot Center.  Beyond that, I can't comprehend how you experience history.  This leads me to believe that aesthtics are way more important.

Upon further reflection, I guess I can see some value in know the history of something beyond verifying authenticity.  Take the watch from Pulp Fiction.  Even if it wasn't your family heirloom, that's one hell of a history.
