I've never been on a picnic that wasn't ruined by strong gusts of wind.

One time, I wanted to go on a "different" date with this chick I'd been seeing for a while and liked a lot and wanted to impress.  So I went and bought some sandwiches and some wine and took it out to city park and laid it all out, then went to her place and we walked over there.

The picnic was nice enough.  But pretty soon, a bunch of little leaguers (10ish year olds) came out and were playing catch near by where we were.  One of them threw the ball way off the mark and domed me right in the back of the head.  I played it cool because I wanted to seem like I was a good guy, but inside I was all "You bastard kids!  :curse:"

Anyhow, they're (picnics) a pretty good way to impress a girl if that's what you're trying to do.  Otherwise, they're very dumb.

IIRC that girl sucked. Great point, DLEW.
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

Seems like a good alternative would be to take my meal out to eat on my deck. But someone hasn't put our deck furniture back in place since we got our new deck built.  :shakesfist:

Could really get on board with a "Gooch's Honey-Do List" master thread.  :excited:

Did you know tailgating is a sub category of picnic?

Do any of the anti-picnicers backpack?  Never really been on a picnic but I certainly enjoy leaning up a against a rock and eating some hot chow as the sun goes down over the mountains.

This would probably influence any romantic notions i have about a picnic.  I love packing and making a meal high up in the mountains or along some ozarks stream... the self reliance aspect of being a walking unit containing all my food an shelter needs.

For a picnic, they are a nice way to wow a lady.  Thermos are your friend (rum and hot cider) and if you really want to bring some solid food (which, why? you have rum and cider)  Thermos soup is pretty nice too, maybe with some small sandwiches.  Laid out on a nice wool blanket on a warm sping day, doesn't sound terrible.   And bring a frisbee.

Meh.  Like all women I've been interested in at one time or another, she's a great young lady who will make some lucky guy very happy some day, but that guy ain't me.

But if i could go back in time and not have wasted that great date (city park picnic and wine) on her, i would.

DNR the thread but I am partial to picnics.  I proposed to Mrs. Bf on one.  I don't remember what we ate but when I was cleaning up the remnants of our feast is when I popped the question.  The sun never seemed so brilliant and the grass never smelled so sweet.   That spot will forever be in my heart because it was a place I played in when I was very young and now it is forever so dear to my heart.  I go there a few times every year and every time my heart is warmed.

Did you bury some cash and directions to Zihuatanejo under the oak tree there too, Andy?

i picnic'd once up in the konza prairie, off of LHC Bill Snyder family highway, pretty great time.

also, for picnics, i like to go to jackstack and order a bunch of food and sides.  they have everything you need to host a most fantastic picnic.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

Do you not reuse date ideas with different girls?  I had about 6 or 7 "go to" dates and would reuse for all the ladies.
