This has got to be the biggest joke our state gov't has ever shoved down our throats. Someone should be losing sleep over the poorest customer/taxpayer service I have ever seen. Understaffing, new computer tracking system ?, and budget cuts have the number of DL renewal stations in Sedgwick Co from 3 to 1. One !  They have apparently allocated more staff and more space at the Andover facility in Butler Co.  Today, there were over 110 people in line with a 3 hr wait. You could leave your cell phone # for text when its "about your turn" Well, eff that.

After leaving and steamed, and a little research on cell phone, I called Newton's Harvey Co facility. Boom ! 5 min wait.  Made the short drive, waited maybe two minutes, renewed my license, and done. For all you Sedwick Co gE'rs, make the short drive. You will save a crap load of time.

This is one of the few things that Oklahoma actually has figured out.  Getting your initial is a pain in the ass.  However, after that you can just go to a tag agency.  The tag agencys are privately owned franchises of the state that compete with each other.  They get a cut of whatever they collect for the state, so they are competing against each other.  Tulsa has 15 alone, and that's not counting the suburbs.  My suburb of 30,000 has 3.  I've renewed my license, got a replacement, and been in 15 times getting new tags/stickers.  I don't think I've ever spent more than 5 minutes in an agency for any of them. 

Plus it saves the state a shitload.

Nope.  Think like a UPS store.  The store isn't owned by UPS, it's owned by some random person.  However, they get a cut of whatever is shipped out of their store.  Same thing with these agencies.  The employees work for the person that has the "franchise" agreement with the state.  They've outsourced the tag/license process and created an environment of high competition, thus greatly improving service. 

Like I said, one of the very, very few things that Oklahoma has figured out.

not in fresno.  the trouble free part, i mean.  you can make appointments.  i think you have to keep in mind that in the bay area, everyone is smarter and happier than in the rest of the state.

The DMV is just hideous, but I appreciate it for its hideousness. What other place lets ordinary people walk right into the bowels of government? Maybe a police station - but that's horrible for a reason. At the least they try to pretty up the public areas of the courthouses.

The sickly skin tones, banks of humming flourescent lights, dead eyed employees, stale air... it's like a scene from the beginning of Joe versus the Volcano.

I feel your pain Boondock.  When I lived in Kansas, life was so much easier.  Now that I am stuck in the land of fatties (Des Moines, Iowa) it's an 8 hour battle for me across multiple days.  I am a Narcoleptic so those douchers have hit me hard ever since I have moved (I won't get into the legalities, but it blows).

I'd rather have a colonoscopy than go to the DMV.

Last time I went to that one it sent me the text that I should head down there. An hour later they finally got to my number. Not accurate at all.

50 minutes is too long to renew a DL. Anytime over 30 min is unacceptable.  People at work have confirmed the inconsistencies in the text messaging system. Some say it worked, others  say it didn't work at all, or came back, and waited another hour, wtf.
