Guys, it's Marino. Seriously. He did all that passing throwing and never had a single 1000 yard running back. It was the Dan show on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd down every time. And they still couldn't stop him.
In Marino's first 14 years in the league his offensive lineman and receivers were voted to 30 pro bowls. In Elway's first 14 years in the league his offensive lineman and receivers were voted to 6. Shannon Sharpe was Elway's first pro bowl receiver - as you're probably aware, he was a tight end.
Through his first 14 years, Elway was already the leagues all-time leader in wins. He won more games than any other qb in history (at that point, and also when he retired) while sharing the field with only 6 pro bowlers in all those years. He only had 2 pro bowl WR's in his entire 16 year career. Anthony Miller in '95, and Ed McCaffrey in '98 (Elway's final season).
Nobody has ever done more with less. Then he won 2 super bowls.
Quick sidenote: after Elway retired, the defending champion terrell davis led broncos started 0-4. then davis blew out his knee. i loved td, he was an incredible back. but he was only a rb.
