phog.net on ksu, refs, and life
« on: March 21, 2010, 10:00:03 AM »
K-State will be tough to beat from here on out if Martin stays and he just signed an extension. They play like their hairs on fire.

Be prepared for the grapes to dominate the north the next few years.  What ever Martin does, works.

Just finished watching KSU finish off BYU...  and there was one minor difference between our games--intensity. KSU played like their lives depended on it, literally. They were maniacal on both ends. We went through our typical motions in the first half and figured to come out in the second 20 and run off from UNI. Lesson learned should be obvious, 40 minutes makes a game guys. Playing cool will beat Tenn Tech, and Alcorn, but we needed the Temple and KSU games tonight. Hope they can get the giant turd off the court in Okie City before the next event takes place.

The reason why I'm so down in the dumps right now is because i normally hate teams like our team this year. Only give about half assed effort until the end of the game and normally pull it out.

KSU winning it all and returning all but 1 starter is not good for KU. You don't want to add K-State to the schools we have to recruit against.

They could be flat out SCARY good next year- and here's betting they outrecruit KU to add even more to a ridiculously deep team.

I agree with this post. They play hard. I  admire that in their team. I also think they could go all the way, especially now that we're out of their way. If we played that hard we'd be awesome.

The KSU team this year always plays hard.  I just don't understand why this KU team could never do that.

The grapes can go straight to hell. I hope they lose and I hope their bus breaks down.

In KSU/BYU game with 4 minutes left, same exact play as Collin's in 2nd half; except they got it right with the blocking foul call on Kelly. Refs had an agenda in our game.

Self has never been one of the better X's and O's coaches.  NEVER.

Self has never been a good game manager.  It goes back to his Illinois days.

the actual rule is what you are describing.  the secondary defender is not supposed to be allowed to slide under the offensive player.  unfortunately, the refs today blew this call consistently in UNI's favor

There were some weird calls tonight. IMO, if there's contact, there's a foul. When KU was defending in the last few minutes, there were 2-3 times where a UNI player plowed into a KU defender. If we're not set, fine. If it's not a charge, fine. But there damn sure was contact and there damn sure was a foul. Call it. Not calling it makes it seem like they were letting a team get favors.

If these asshats call the game properly, there is no meltdown, because those thugs (yeah, I said it!) wouldn't have gotten away with half of the crap they pulled and KU might have been able to pull this out by 5-6 points. But EVERY charge/block was for UNI, regardless of its merit. So, f*** them and the NCAA. Crooks.

the lack of charging calls at the UNI end when the guy runs directly over Reed and gets a and1 then we get a charge call every time we drove to the basket late!

The teams in the Big East and Big 12 rely on help from the refs, that's why they don't produce in the NCAA Tournament like the ACC and Big 10 do.

If you think the ACC doesn't rely on refs and the Big 12 does, you have problems.  In fact, I'd argue the other way around.  You consistently see Cole, Morris, Collins, and Henry take massive amounts of contact uncalled because they're used to it and don't go flailing.  They don't get bailed out by refs.

Ali was a close runner up, but the MVPs for this game wore stripes.

This KU team and Self were on cruise control for the whole year.   I think the coaching staff was counting their bonus money a ltttle too early and the players were a little busy figuring what their NC rings would look like.

This season for KU has all the earmarks of a team and coaching staff too arrogant to get better and too arrogant to believe other teams could beat them when it mattered.  No sense of urgency and just too lackadaisical.

Officials: Mike Nance ,Bob Donato ,Joe Lindsay    I have never seen a single one of these guys before and I watch literally hundreds of games a year.

Surely I am not the only one that thought they had more moving screens than 5th graders!!

Unbelievable amount of chicken wing screens as well (the ones we get called on consistently). I have also never seen as many ball hacks (arm coming straight down across arms/ball) under the basket that were called all ball as I saw tonight.

finally the truth - I have never yelled foul so much at the screen.  Hacking is not a defense.  What do you want to bet Norther Iowa fouls out of the next game.  Ten minutes into the game 6 fouls on us none on them.  Total valley crap.

"Mutton chops" didn't get called once for his continual moving picks, hip-checks, etc.  The Morris twins consistently got whistled for less all year long!!!!

Worst coaching  job by a Kansas coach EVER!!!!!   And that says alot.

This Loss Is 100% on Self and Collins!!!!

Self = Rick Barnes with better players

Self is a great recruiter and that is about it. If he doesn't have a team with NBA draft picks like Roy he can't win.

Re: If 2008 never happened...

Yeah.  That last missed shot by Davidson means so much.  It's strange, really.

Got a message from a UNC fan (not an alumnus) that said congrats on being #2 in the MVC.  Good stuff.

I doubt KSU or the mu'tards care if their teams win or lose going forward. Their season are complete when KU is eliminated.

Clearly the NCAA and the officials are crooks.  Clearly they want UNI to advance and not Kansas because there is much more money for them in UNI doing well.  What, with all their rich alum that will travel and buy ridiculous commemorative crap.

BTW, if we get to the final four, I am going to litter my house with the most absurd commemorative crap I can find.

Reality setting in.  Moved on to classless fans that were "seen" in the arena.

Made my normal Sunday rounds this morning.  Delicious Americano at KC Coffee in River mkt, by Scooters to get a pound of the Vanilla cream for my wife, over to Cosentinos to pick up some grub for lunch.  Normally, I'd see at least a dozen ku hats/shirts/skirts/lame skull caps.  Today, not a single one.  Not one.

No bigger batch of fairweathers in the conference.  I popped my collar in the face of everyone I saw on the off chance that they were a ku fan in disguise as an ugly loser.

Thank you so much for the compilation.

It just amazes me how fans of a team that includes Cole Aldrich can complain about fouls.  That guy has been coached to run out and hack at the perimeter then run back in and hack under the basket.  How about that bear hug move in KC?

Last night I watched KU players run straight into UNI players all night, as if they expected either to get the call or for the UNI player to just move out of the way.  The "we'll get the call" arrogance of their players was evident to see.  Collins running straight into the arms of O'Rear was the most telling:

And what cracks me up about this is the folks on phog.net think this play was a blatant reach in foul on UNI.  Low BBIQ over there, I tell ya.

O'Rear is my favorite non-EMAW since Morrison.  And he's waaaay cooler than Morrison.

The mutton chops, slightly red hair and the shamrock shoulder tat... if I was at O'Malleys and had a few Belfast Bombers I might develop a bromance with him.

They were probably waiting on John Higgins to don the stripes and come in and save the day.

I created a phog account just to read all the hilarious stuff on there. Total MELTDOWN. They all loved Sherron for all his 139+ wins and his dick rubbings in the elevator. Now, KU hates him now.

It's absurd that he took that 3 pointer with only 35 seconds left.  Just chucked it up there.

The best is the whining about K-State fans cheering for UNI.

Folks, I've heard it for years from every squawk I know, "Oh but I cheer for K-State when they're not playing ku all the time".    Don't believe that for one second, that's a disingenuous lie . . . inside they're a seething cauldron of hate and schadenfreude towards K-State 24/7/365.

I will say this, while Seff was disappointed for sure, at least he wasn't a giant bundle of crocodile tears like Roy always was or is;  stand up there like a man.

Best part was when they decided that Self can't win without NBA talent.  I guess Collins, Aldrich, Xavier, Point Plankin, etc. are chopped liver now.
