Reasons the Big 12 asked/let Missouri leave for SEC
« on: July 22, 2012, 11:07:59 AM »
I have a good buddy who is a big Missouri fan and has been really down since the Big 12 ushered them out the door.  He is a pretty smart guy so I am helping him understand by kind of laying out the case.  I'd like your thoughts.

1.  WVU and TCU are both better football teams and WVU is a better basketball program.
2.  No conference titles in any major sport.
3.  Academically they have some nice programs but stink at the hard sciences such as engineering, architecture that the Big 12 wants to emphasize.
4.  They whine about Texas non stop but rarely beat them.
5.  Between Pinkel's poor moral fiber and Haith's mounting NCAA problems, they are a liability for our image.
6.  The football facilities are sub par and the stadium is as quiet as a morgue.
7.  They think people actually care about clown sports like wrestling and girls softball.

Kind of true but most schools besides KSU have those kind of fans.  Let's stick to hard facts for the purpose of this thread.  Thx

I always thought it was mostly a culture thing.  They fit better with the culture of the "South," including tractor pulls and the belief overalls are acceptable attire.  The only difference is the South generally cares about and is good at football.  Two similarities, one difference!

Yes, they certainly have much more in common with Mississippi State than Kansas State.

I think the never ending parade of shame was eventually too much for the leadership of the conference to handle.  Too many scandals.  From naming their basketball arena after a crazy person to having a coke head basketball coach to having their university pres get drunk and ride a 4 wheeler with Ricky Clemons, it was just too much to overlook.  They had to go.

This was a move about conference image above all else, I mean, athletically they're probs better than ISU I guess.

Oh, and how do they respond when we kicked them out?  DUI, Norfolk St, NCAA violations etc.

Their stadium is essentially a vertical concrete parking lot, very much an eye sore. the big 12 has made it an emphasis to have world class stadiums, and they certainly didn't meet that requirement.
