I work with a Brazil native.  I've talked to him about this.  His initial response what a 30-second laughing fit following by "There is no way in hell that is going to be ready by 2014.  It's going to be a dumpster fire."

let me ask you this: Who doesn't love a good dumpster fire?

And the Venezuelans may hotly debate you on this one, but also ask yourself: who does a dumpster fire better than Brazil?

Colombia.

Please. I know, I know. The Bogotazo. But that was like, what, a hundred decades ago? The Colombians are way to efficient to be wasting fuel on dumpster fires. They bury crap in false graves or just rough ridin' pretend it never happened. Less mess, more ceremony (should be on a government seal).

I plan on taking every Sunday-Thursday at noon off of drinking to save up enough wealth to make the trip down. Also, fully considering the options for my sudden exodus from my work place as it is probably safe to assume they will not let me have a month of paid leave off and will choose to fire me.

Any suggestions?

My cousin's wife is from Brazil and I met her once about 5 years ago. That means I've pretty much got the hookup for super secret tips on how to navigate brazil so we are all set there.

My mom said she could make some snacks for the trip down. Is anyone allergic to peanuts?

Not that I know of but I would tell her not to pack any fresh fruit. Last time I came back from mexico my mom had two bananas in her bag and customs FLIPPED!
