New turf on Tointon Field
« on: July 20, 2011, 08:05:36 AM »
Just read that the new Field Turf will be installed on the baseball field everywhere but the pitcher's mound. The batters boxes and baselines will be brown colored.

This probably makes me a baseball tuck, but I'm wondering why you don't leave the areas around the bases and home plate a dirt surface. Doesn't seem like sliding on Field Turf would be very fun.

Apparently it's not that bad because they've been sliding on the old FieldTurf infield for 4 or 5 years now, and a bunch of other schools have all artificial grass fields with artificial grass base paths and hitters boxes including ku, WSU and Texas.

The new surfaces like FieldTurf and GameDay Grass are basically like real grass, they're nothing like the original AstroTurf.

No, the fieldturf on everything but the mound is basicallly the way to do it now.  Really great drainage on those fields, truer ground balls, etc.  The turf in the batters' boxes are removable, so you can swap them out if the start to get worn down.  WSU's field is the same design and is rough ridin' awesome.  Plus, the giant powercat in center will look awesome.

Would rather have the powercat in cf and the ks behind the plate.

Saw it at a Wichita Wranglers game.  Kind of weird but not really a big deal.  Also, some lady got destroyed by a foul ball after her loser daughter couldn't snare it.

Powercat isn't really used anywhere on the baseball uniforms. The KS is. It's their mark, might as well be consistent with it and use it everywhere.

Thought Currie was all about expanding the K-State/powercat brand?  Wouldn't that go against his vision?

would rather have the katpak headcover in center field and an actual katpak headcover used in place of all four bases and the pitchers mound.

Like we'd sponsor loser teams that don't win their regional.

It's just a tradition thing, collegiate baseball is always kind of unique — at many NCAA schools the baseball team uses a logo that isn't used anywhere else. Just look at the 2-time defending champs, South Carolina. They use their own SC logo, and you don't see it anywhere else.

Makes sense to promote the baseball brand. Other sports promote the K-State/powercat brand.

I vote the basketball team gets to branch out from the kstate/powercat brand as well!

Me to.  We should take the powercat and bring back the Asbury-era basketball grips and turquoise trim!

don't know where to put this. Thought there was a kstate rebranding thread but couldnt find it.

Quote
In the meantime, I learned something today. Before this, I didn't know the Kansas State logo was called the "Powercat." Powercat! That's an awesome name for a logo! It's so ... powerful! In fact, if K-State really wants this brand thing to take off, it should go all the way and replace its "Wildcats" moniker with "Powercats" once and for all.

The Kansas State Powercats. Now that's a brand.

According to the Assistant AD (who is heading up the branding campaign) they are trying to make everything uniform across the board. Same fonts, powercats facing the same way, same "K-State" brand, same colors etc.

Not really so much as a rebrand as a "making everything the same" brand.
