Dodd's system of ranking is on a 1-5 scale.

0-0.5 -- don't even think it -- can't be touched
1-1.5 -- very safe -- change highly unlikely
2-2.5 -- safe -- solid position
3-3.5 -- on the bubble -- you never know
4-4.5 -- warm seat -- feeling the pressure

LHC Bill Snyder, Kansas State (149-80-1, 20th season)

Snyder drew a 0.5, rightfully one of the coolest seats of any Big 12 coach. Snyder's second go-around in Manhattan finished with a bowl berth last season, the Wildcats' first since 2006. Snyder wants to "calm the waters" for his replacement, and he's on the way to doing it. K-State looks unlikely to win any championships this time, but there's no way Snyder gets the program moving in a direction that ends with his unwilling exit.

If calming the waters is the only deliverable we are measuring OBs performance on, we should probably have a timeline in place so we know how well OB is actually doing.

We would be mocking other conf buds for trying to get rid of a coach that has done what bill has in the last two seasons.

Gill drew a 3.5. I'd agree with that, on the "you never know" point. He's unproven at the major conference level, and Kansas' team last season was one of the worst in Big 12 history.

Cheyenne Zulu said on the radio yesterday that the plan is to give Gill multiple recruiting classes/years.  I think he has at least two seasons left.

He has three.  No way KU fires him after three years for a $4 million price tag.

My guess is he gets a very short extension of reassurance after year three (i.e. no buyout) so it looks like they're committing to him and he can recruit, but he'll be canned after year four or five with minimal losses to AD finances.

That contract is a golden parachute.  He gets every single dollar of that $10 million regardless of when they choose to can him.  And, really, how much does KU stand to gain from firing him early?  It's not like a new coach there is going to get people to come to their stadium in droves.  They can't even give free tickets away if they stuff stacks of them at every JoCo Quiznos with a, "Free: Take four" sign next to them.
