As noted, Wake's defense was bad and we destroyed it (outside of silly turnovers). Seniors stepped up and we move on to Sacramento and a date with Cinci. I don't care who your are, even in a play in, winning in March is fun.

Go Cats.

Here are their player stats. I'll try to get some team stats later. Plenty of places to talk about your hatred for oscar, talk about the game(s) in the NCAA tournament here.

oscar gonna oscar. The type of effort/intensity you've wanted to see from this K-State team all year that you've only seen in spurts. A solid defensive performance with great 2nd half offense.

Also, Maurice broke the offensive rating formula. It computed a negative number, so I left it blank. I guess 8 points in 8 minutes on 6 shots does things to math.

I don't have time for stats, later.

DJamer and Dean were good and over came 3-15 from Barry and Stokes.Go Cats.

32

Dean and Wade step up. Cats are still living life on the bubble.

33

About 3/4 through the game this team finally decided to fight, but whatever. oscar and his team are done. For getting rid of him, this was nearly the perfect result.

And yes sys, I did notice that 3PT%. (theirs, not ours)

34

It becomes harder to do these after terrible basketball.

Notice we now have a 6th half of basketball of absolutely getting destroyed in our last 9 games. Brutal.

Our loss.

DJamer saves Wes. Cats get a road win. Nothing quality, but keeps the postseason hopes alive.

I couldn't cheer for a K-State loss, but I don't know what to think. It is what it is, and an absolutely oscar thing to do.

Its just comical at this point. All of it. One of the worst stretches of K-State basketball I've seen in years. Except, not really, because these halves of basketball have been happening at an alarming rate. In fact, we've seen a similar half in 5 of our last 7 games.

Of course, K-State managed to win one of those and make several respectable. That's just what oscar does.

Then he talks, and oh does oscar talk. He actually finished his radio spot with Stan by saying "If we weren't ready to play we played a good 2nd half competed outscored them." I'll leave it as a run on.

Even Stan at the end of the radio broadcast finally said "this is unacceptable for K-State basketball" when talking about the 1st half play.

38

Only the 1st half in Ames was worse than this.

Now the only question is how long it takes oscar to give the DJamer was hurt excuse in his postgame...

39

Cats led the league in 2PT% differential coming in, KU owned us tonight. Wade played great, Stokes hit some 3s, DJamer was solid, but its not enough.

Its not enough has been a theme far too often.

40

I think the fact that I really didn't start watching until Baylor went on their run to get back into it should tell me something.

Even with my name adjustment, I can't be made at the biggest road win for K-State since Brian Gavin was banking 3s in AFH.

Go Cats.

41

When it comes to K-State basketball, my optimism is a crutch and a fault. So stupid.

42

There is absolutely nothing positive to say about this pathetic, embarrassing effort.

Shame on me for being sucked in by this team (and more importantly this coach).

43

You can't play that poorly on the road in a half and expect to win. I'm not even that upset about the defense (besides helping off of the best shooter on the floor multiple times), but that offense was pathetic.

Again, too many key turnovers by key guards (overall TOs were good) and again the 3pt line is a problem.

Just another wasted opportunity on the road. Not a killer for this season, but you can only do this so many times and this team is good at doing it a lot.

44

Some questionable moments in the middle of each half, but the balanced Cats battled through and found a way to finish.

What a difference a week makes.

45

Solid 2nd half defense. Good offense against a bad defensive team (come on Brad?).

Barry finally breaks out of his slump. DJamer is solid. Wes did a lot of nice things besides the oop attempt.

Solid road win, now get a big home win on Saturday.

There has been plenty about the timeout, but simply put Baylor's guards, specifically Lemonte, simply outplayed ours down the stretch. Really you can say that for the majority of the game. The 2nd half defense was pathetic and Baylor destroyed us on the oboards.

DJamer and Sneed had nice games, but that's about it. In fact, in addition to the silly TO, oscar took out Sneed when Baylor started their 8-0 run to take control of the game. He was the spark on defense and offense that got us into the lead and his absence contributed to losing it.

Our guards simply aren't good enough right now. 1st, our SR swing was awful, and Brown/Stokes were only marginally better. Its sad to see so many stretches every year where Baylor's zone and length bother us so much that any offense movement and flow becomes nonexistent. Our only hope on offense at times was throwing up a 3 and hoping and that's no way to win basketball games. Drew now has won 6 of the last 7 over oscar.

47

No words.

I decided to put together a chart that takes the major advanced stats and attempts to correlate which factors have the most impact on winning and losing for oscar teams. For "success" my mark was finishing in the kenpom Top 50 and making the NCAA tournament. For this chart I only looked at oscar's Illinois and K-State teams.

First a brief explanation of the chart:

The first 5 columns focus on the offensive numbers. Column 1 is the factor, column two is the rough goal I set by sorting each factor, roughly staying at the median for each stat. The 3rd and 4th column show what percentage of oscar teams were NCAA/kenpom top 50 when matching or surpassing the goal (>) and what percentage were "successful" when finishing below (<) the goal. The 5th column is this year's current numbers; green is good, red is bad, gray is neutral.

The next 5 columns do the same for defense. The last 5 columns are for offense - defense differential.

This isn't some absolute, but it does show which factors are most important for oscar teams to be successful, some we've talked about here before like 3PT%. Granted, these numbers would probably be similar for almost any coach, but the goal numbers probably would change up or down for each coach. For example, I'm certain OR% was a much more important factor for Frank as compared to oscar.

The Cats might be good. People might be looking for tickets. One of those people might be me.

I'm looking for a pair Saturday for the Baylor game. I thought I'd check here before going stubhub (they cheapest are $25 there right now).

Thanks,

Unfortunately I wasn't able to watch and only listened to the first half, which was really good. It sounds like a little bit sloppy in the 2nd half, but still a comfortable win.

Westicles and Wade continue to be our mainstays in conference play. It was nice to see better scoring from Brown along with a solid game from Stokes. Sneed played pretty well also. DJamer isn't bad, but not playing like the teams best player right now, but the fortunate thing is Wade seems to be picking up where he left off. We are not a deep team at all, but I think we can win plenty with a 7 man rotation as long as we have no major injuries. Tuesday night will be a really good measuring stick for this team, if we want to contend for a top 4 spot (minimum) in this league and spend February safely on the good side of the bubble it would be nice one to win.
