Do we think OU and Texas will be in the Big 12 through June 2025?
nope, but they're going to pay
They are going to pay something, no way it’s the full amount.
You keep saying this and I understand why but you've yet to address why the Big 12 would just give their money away. There's no reason for them to settle, just not wanting to put up with them isn't reason enough to just give money away especially if you're never going to make that much money again. I do agree with you that OU, UT, ESPN and the SEC want this over like yesterday, but I'm going to assume the aggrieved party will not reward bad behavior and will insist they are made whole.
How does this play out? Two teams leave and say we aren’t paying a dime. Big 12 says we are going to withhold your payment? It’s like one big Mexican standoff with espn the big 12 and the two parting teams. ESPN could withhold distribution to the big 12 in the same fashion that the big 12 could withhold OU and UT distributions right? It’s going to go to court, it’s going to be ugly, and I think like most legal matters will get settled and be for less than whatever the contract stipulates. I think espn is likely on the hook to make the remaining 8 whole as if the two departing programs were still around though, if bowlsby’s claims are able to be proved legally.
A couple of points:
1. This is realignment 2.0 not 1.0. The new and improved version has contracts and bylaws that have been pre-scrubbed by teams of lawyers to make it much harder to jump early. Not saying it is not possible, just that the risk to the jumping school and new conference is much greater than in version 1.0
2. The new SEC contract doesn't start until 2023. There is no revenue reason to jump early. CBS is not going to bump up the last couple years of a contract they lost the renewal on and ESPN can't pay more until their contact starts.
3. Other then getting rid of the awkwardness at the conference xmas party what is the incentive for the Big 12 to let them go early. Remember, with the new and improved contracts the conference is negotiating from a relative position of strength this time (at leas in the short term legal perspective). It is also in survival mode which means until it has a clear path to safety it will dig its heals in for every dime.
The new SEC contract starts in 2024 and that distinction is important as to what I think is going to happen. I think the schools bounce in 2024. They will then make a deal to pay their 1 year penalty over like 3-5 years. Bowlsby is turning down the heat because ideally ESPN will help the Big 12 and the SEC make this arrangement sooner rather than later so the Big 12 can move on trying to see what's next for 2024. This has to get resolved before 2024 but the schools have to pay what they owe, this is the best way.
Sounds like a man that is about to get a cushy gig at ESPN
Or a small, but serviceable, tv contract extension.
Yeah I hear you but I also don't think many hospitals will need to flex to the extent they did last year. But yes the labor situation is tough. They have a pretty broad range of specialists there. You can get coronary bypass surgery there, they have two neurosurgeons, several general surgeons, several orthos. Most elective and even emergent surgeries that people need can be done there. Most pediatric specialty care would need to be in ICT or at Children's in Kansas City. Many people could live their whole lives and get a very high level of medical for all of their needs in Salina.
And aren't people in Salina kinda used to driving to Wichita and KC for electives? (Legitimately don't know this)

Our stadium is so amazing now.
BYU, Houston, Cincinnati, and Central Florida. Sue the eff out of everyone and remain a P5.
This needs to be done by 2023.
It absolutely should not. If the elite 8 holds steady we're all getting $40 million a year for the next 4 years, that's even more than the ACC and Pac 12. No one is making that, even if someone gets a deal from the Big 10 because they won't get a full share right away.
Do nothing until the summer of 2024, then start weighing your options for July 1, 2025.
I really hope you’re right. Many contracts have a material adverse change clause and I’m thinking his scenario is definitely a material change for the big 12. We’ll see I guess.
Or they pay us alot of moneySo who thinks OU and UT play conference games in the SEC in 2022?
I don't see that happening unless some miracle happens and all the leftovers land in a power conference.
So they play out the remainder of the GOR in the Big 12 for 4 more years?
I don’t know what this is so hard to understand

baseball is cheap AF though. and it's a good college sport. football and basketball aren't good college sports. they are good pro sports. volleyball and baseball are where it's at imo.
You guys don't take the SEC at face value here?

Is it too late for us to also request admission and try to sneak in just before the screen door slams shut?
from TTU rivals guyQuoteI cannot confirm all of the details below and, therefore, I am not reporting the following. I want to be very clear about that. But you all subscribe to RRS in large part because you want an inside look at what is going on with Texas Tech athletics, and there's obviously a lot going on. This is an instance, and there will likely be more instances like this in the coming days and weeks, where I feel good enough about certain details lining up with what I've heard elsewhere to pass it along. Let's call it informed chatter.
I spoke with a long-time source with close ties to Oklahoma State today. Here's what he told me:
... Mike Holder, Oklahoma State's former athletic director, has been working with various individuals at Texas Tech with the objective of getting the Red Raiders and Cowboys into the Pac-12.
... Oklahoma State may have a chance at a Big Ten invitation.
... If Oklahoma State goes to the Pac-12 with Texas Tech, it would likely be as part of a foursome that includes Kansas and Kansas State.
... If Oklahoma State ends up in the Big Ten, then Texas Tech, TCU and two others would end up in the Pac-12.
... The source thinks that Oklahoma State wants to stay linked with Texas Tech but that only happens with the Pac-12.
... The reports that the Big Ten is considering USC is great news for Texas Tech and possibly Oklahoma State because Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff will want to keep USC happy and expansion into Texas does that.
... Nothing will happen until the SEC officially accepts Oklahoma and Texas as members, which could happen on Friday at some point. That will get the ball rolling.
see you at Sugarfish for sush brahs
I'd totes do a TT-OSU-KU-KSU to the Pac-12
