Kansas State Football / Re: the "following a legend" issue

tOSU wanted Lou Holtz, then at Arkansas, to replace Woody Hayes.  Holtz claimed he didn't want to be Hayes' successor and declined the offer.

Why are they even playing the game? That makes zero sense to me.
Likely for the $ payout as it should be a sell out.  I doubt any of the conference TV partners will originate it though, so it may slip to their Tier III network.

Ku hasn't won 2 Big 12 games in any year in the past decade.  6 conference wins in 10 years.

Les is a solid hire for them.  But 8-4,5-3 type seasons are a loooooong ways off.  Any season they finish above .500 for year should be viewed as huge success.  Those wont be many of them
They need to first stop the losing at home to FCS teams.  But getting to 3-6 in conference games should not be so difficult.  Aren't there like 5 teams now tied at 3-5?

It's all but official now.

I suppose Les could have a Jack Hartman to oSu or Dana Altman to Arkansas moment, but odds seem very low.

more likely -- Jeff Brohm to Louisville then Les Miles to Purdue; Miles would clean up in that weaker big 10 west division.

Miles just settled his buyout dispute with LSU...
Are you hearing a significant reduction?  Thought I heard LSU would pay him only $1.5Million up front instead of $6.5Million over remaining life.

Massey Ratings has it as 86% probability for Wildcats' victory.

If I were a KU fan, I'd still be pretty ticked off that LSU got into the championship game with 2 losses over my 1 loss Hawks. That would be an interesting dynamic.
Wasn't that also season where a day or 2 later West Virginia crapped their pants AT HOME vs Pitt?  Thus, LSU got to take their spot in MNC game vs tOSU.

can ku afford les miles? i think they owe beatty and zenger about $6M
their best bet is already on their sideline and has a low price tag.  clint bowen. #bringbackbowen
Pretty sure they've already paid off both Weis and then Zenger.  They still owe $3 Million to Beaty to be paid in 6 installments.

They will have the 3 best players on the field.
Where would you place Dalton Risner?

36
Still a chance as current probability of 'Cats winning all 3 remaining games = 3.9%

Last conference road win, October 4, 2008. I'm sure you all can guess, without even looking, where that was.
Ames or Boulder?

38
Jim Wooldridge, 2-0 vs the WuSHucks.
Pretty sure Wooldridge's 1st two Cats teams went 0-2 vs Turgeon's WSU teams.

39
Not nearly as bad as when Houston was ranked #2, UCLA #1 and UCLA defeated UH by 32 points in Final Four semifinals.

Same here.  2018-19 season should be a lotta fun!

41
how has Chris Webber's comment about 13:35 in the 2nd half "This is what I love; all you bitches that are left PLEASE step up your celebration game!" not been mentioned? Did no one else catch that or is it in another thread cause that was some crazy crap I just heard watching this amazing game for the first time on DVR.
Yea, pretty sure you heard it correctly.  It is okay to say that word on TV, no FCC fine, but the context was strange.

42
I've noticed the spread anywhere from pickem to 'Cats -1.5 & over/under 126.5

this morning i was congratulating a co-worker of my who is a jayhawk on being a part of the sweet 16 and the first thing that comes out of his mouth is that KU beat the same seeds that KSU beat and that they did it all without much help from Doke. it wasn't just what he said, it is how he said it. instead of accepting the congrats and enjoying it, all he can do is focus on KSU. i was happy that their are 4 teams from the B12 but this is exactly why I don't even talk to KU fans anymore. Such an inferiority complex.

sad that lil' bro has such wildcat envy when bball is only our hobb spor
If "Doke" is their huge Nigerian, then your co-worker must not have been listening to you.  Big Boy played a lot in their 2nd game and did very well.

44
I watched it and he seemed more nervous than usual, but I thought it was due to possibly saying something that would cause a fine from conference office.  It seemed like his mouth was in action with little supporting brain power.

45
KSU used to make a big deal of this.  I thought they used to claim it was a record, but maybe I'm misremembering.

In 2008-09, the Wildcats men's basketball team secured their 63rd straight home winning season with their win over North Dakota State on Jan. 2.

5-2 at the fOOD in the non-con, with 9 conference home games and possibly the NIT.  Can the streak reach 69?
Never thought it was a big deal.  What it really meant was Wooldy managed to schedule a bunch of poofs for pre-conference home games.

twas a good cup o coffee in the Top 10

Clent Stewart ain't walkin' thru that Allen fieldhouse locker room door.

Cole . . .  has absolutely zero post moves and is a highly underrated terrible passer out of the post.
So, he's a good passer?

"People ask me all the time, 'You averaged 20 points per game, what happened?'" former Kansas State guard Jacob Pullen said.

That's the real kick, the reality that most every player eventually comes to -- even if outsiders don't. The NBA isn't the only professional basketball avenue and it should not be held as the lone barometer for success.

Pullen could have waited to see if an NBA team decided to sign him, but with the lockout looming he instead went to Italy, where he flourished.

Playing for Pallacanestro Biella, Pullen finished fifth in the league in scoring. He'll work out this summer for NBA teams and perhaps try to land here, but he's wised up. If the choice is an NBA minimum salary versus a hefty deal in Italy, he'll say ciao in a heartbeat.

"The money is green at the end of the day," Pullen said. "I can come home, buy the same nice car, the same nice house. Sure, I have dreams of playing in the NBA, but I also have dreams of taking care of my family."

Eventually most players come to terms with all of it. They learn to ignore the critics and be proud of what they accomplished in college and what they are accomplishing as pros, whatever professional avenue that might be. They go back to campus, heads held high.

In other words, they grow up.
