Essentially Flyertalk / Post Covid Things
« on: December 30, 2020, 08:14:48 AM »
We've talked about all of the stuff I'm going to post below in the covid threads but I wanted a thread for just this stuff because it's fascinating for me to think about.

There's going to be a tremendous amount of scholarship done on this generation of children and how this event effected (affected?) them. That will be interesting to follow. How will it impact them? Guessing we see a widening gap between poor and wealthy districts? How do we close that? What's this generation going to be called? "Lost Year" "Covid"?

We've talked a lot about the WFH and the new normal in the office. It has accelerated what was already happening by a decade or more imo. A lot of people are going back to the office, but a lot won't dependent on industry. Those cost savings are going to be hard to give back once they are on the balance sheets. And the environmental impact of commuting and occupying office space all day has more eyes on it (and this will only increase). Commercial real estate is going to be available for a fraction of the pre-pandemic price and inventories will be huge.

Also related is business travel and I've said on here I don't think that ever reaches pre-pandemic levels again. Large conference facilities and hotels are going to be hurt bad long term.

Related but counter is vacation travel. This thing has been a massive boon for Airbnb/VRBO. I think post covid we see a couple years of revenge travel where people and families take about double their normal leisure trips. This should offset a small amount of that business travel loss.

This is WFH related but the urban populace fleeing to the suburbs and countryside during the pandemic has been something. What will that look like? Everyone now needs home office space and home gym space and all that. Post pandemic do all those pelatons find their own room in a new suburban mcmansion? What do downtown areas look like? Obviously this was happening more slowly for the last century but with those people able to work anywhere in the country and needing that space will be interesting to see. Home prices in the burbs are exploding, inventories are almost nothing.

What is going to happen with the cold/flu rates across the country? Will they stay low for years post pandemic? Seems like maybe but I know nothing about this stuff.

Essentially Flyertalk / Happy Holidays
« on: December 24, 2020, 08:40:53 PM »
Hoping you all have a great holiday season and get to do some things you love, even if not with all of those you love. Message boards and social media are places of hyperbole and stuff like best, greatest, etc. gets thrown around a lot but I would say, honestly, each of those things about my friends here.

Happy Holidays.

Had some fun times! Absolutely do not want to watch us play anymore though. Even for non-Covid reasons. Thank you seniors. Hope you come back for next year but if not good luck with just whatever and thank you!

Other Sports (Tiger's Back) / boxing
« on: November 13, 2020, 08:31:08 PM »
I have never watched boxing. I remember as a little kid mike tyson was super fun and good and I'd see his highlights on sportscenter and later I kicked his entire ass on punchout. but that's the extent of my boxing awareness.

BUT, there's a guy from Omaha named Terence Crawford and he's basically the best boxer around or something and I enjoy following how he's doing. He also makes some of his fights be in Omaha and everyone gets super excited about it. I don't watch the fights but I get excited to see if he won.

This is a safe thread for Moms and Dads and anyone else who just wants to wear clothes for zoom meetings and regular stuff. I'm a man who is literally 40. Need clothing advice and I'm bringing that advice request here.

It's quarter zip season and I need more quarter zips to wear over regular work shirts. I have one Vinyard Vines one I really like but I don't want to be the dad with a whale on more than a couple articles of clothing. Also it was like $175 which is woof city. What is a good quarter zip for my needs?

The New Joe Montgomery Birther Pit / Economics Of The Election
« on: September 21, 2020, 10:16:16 AM »
Good listen from my boy Down Town Josh Brown and guests. Goes over the economic and tax impacts and what you should do now if you believe Trump, Biden, or Trump refusing to leave occurs. Also Biden's tax and economic plan and the overall impact. Also ends with laughing at NKLA and some other stuff.

Also Goldman's take on a Biden tax plan which talks big sense imo

Other Sports (Tiger's Back) / competitive little kid sports
« on: August 20, 2020, 10:34:18 PM »
lil sd is 7 and plays baseball and is kind of good. he has competitive travel tryouts and if he gets in we have to commit just an incredible amount of time every week/all year to it and travel all over the place and he's 7 and just started 2nd grade (wtf). I played all the sports but I lived in a town of 1,400 people so fielding a full roster was the biggest challenge and we played only as many games as the white trash kids drunk dad could schedule us outside of regular school sports. this actual city stuff seems crazy. but he loves TF out of baseball suddenly (like ONLY last 4 months). the last thing I'm going to do is keep him from doing it if he wants to so we're all in no matter what. how do people deal with this? do you seriously commit a 7 year old to that amount of time/effort to one sport?

Essentially Flyertalk / infuriating spousal money moves
« on: July 23, 2020, 12:09:40 PM »
got a text from our cleaning person. she said she was raising her rates by $20. I was, like, wait we already pay that amount wtf. have we been paying too much? the old lady (wife) indicated that we tip her each time. so now I have to pay $20 more to assure she's still getting tipped each time.

 :Ughhh:

The New Joe Montgomery Birther Pit / The Biden Cabinet/Staff
« on: July 09, 2020, 08:08:57 AM »
Mayo Pete was on Squawk this morning and got kk and I thinking about his spot on the Biden staff. I'm thinking he'd be a good Chief of Staff. He's a militarized organization and talking point machine, but he's so unlikeable. He can just organize and run stuff behind the scenes. It's the perfect McKinzie role.

What are some others?
