Essentially Flyertalk / Re: Disease Thread
« on: August 16, 2023, 08:20:31 AM »
So this time last year I basically couldn’t leave my apartment. It would be another 4 weeks that I officially went on short term disability at work.

I’ve been struggling a lot lately with what I assume is PTSD from everything. I recently upped my dosage of Remicade. Can still increase the frequency if needed.

I have a lot of days where I feel weird being able to walk, sit, drive, even going outside. What I went through is still very real and present. It’s been very hard working through. Add in other things and it’s just been rough.

I have and am doing better since I started my Remicade in November but the lasting effects of this rough ridin' awful condition linger every day.
Have you considered going to a counselor to deal with the mental side of things?  Sounds like it could be a benefit to you. My sister is a counselor and there are definitely techniques that can help you process and integrate the trauma you experienced.

Mich and I don't agree on much, but I will march shoulder to shoulder with him to the place where team plural will line up to kiss our asses.

This amazing shirt keeps popping up in my facebook ads. I'm balking at the $230 price tag.

I ran it through my AI also and it has selected a suitable replacement.

I don't like one-syllable names unless they're short for something! Sorry that's just my opinion!
I'm kind of with you, Mich.  The single syllables just don't flow especially if the middle and last names are multiple.

My wonderful daughter inlaw only stipulation is his middle name will NOT be Bronco which both dad and grandpa are fond of.

I am thinking of countering with Fordson?  2 syllables and pay homage to a tractor?

So trying to understand the mental state of the shooter is transphobia?

Interesting

Why does #blueanon get to determine all the phobias these days?
Spracne and IC misgendered the shooter and are transphobes.

The Nashville school shooter was a woman.  That's pretty surprising.

Yes. As I noted, it's really (and sadly) the only thing unusual about this.
All kinds of transphobia up in here;

"Hale reportedly identified as transgender and used the pronouns he / him."

I recently threw away a black Classic SD swiss army knife because I forgot to remove it from my keychain before entering the Orpheum in Wichita.  :curse:
Here's the knife I usually carry: https://www.catpremiumproducts.com/products/cat-6-5-8-tanto-folding-knife
More like TantoCat, amirite?  The branding on that is LOL. I hate partial serrated blades, are you cutting much rope?  Glassbreaker is almost never gonna be used, but would be fun to try it.

What grind are you guys putting on your poop knives, Scandi, vex, hollow grind?  Chisel? (lol, yeah right as if!)

Here is my "dress" EDC;

I prefer non-serrated as well, but it's come in handy when sawing through cardboard when I haven't sharpened it in a while.  I forget it even has a glass breaker.  It was a cheap find at Menards or some place like that and it does what I need it to do.  It's a little too short for a poop knife though
I'm considering investing in a poop 'hawk to really show those turds who is boss.

LOL, the entire board is talking E8 but seed is still over here doing the work, putting in the hours.

Anybody else watchin' Clarkson's Farm?

Is it any good?
I enjoyed S1 and am a little way into S2.  I think Clarkson is an acquired taste for some, but there is a pretty good cast of zany characters that make it fun.

Is there a weapons guy on the board. Can’t be going into these situations naked.

We need Emo EMAW
I have a Bo staff, but now that Trim getting stabbed is on the table I will withhold my arsenal.

As far as “anytime they die,” I don’t necessarily think that’s the case here. Not my expertise at all, but I’d sure expect that an artist could make arrangements to ensure their work isn’t tampered with after they die.

And otherwise, yes. If you give those rights away (not being coerced of course), you have no space to complain when the rightful holder changes them as they see fit. What else is the point of ownership vs licensing?

You don’t see me claiming censorship when I sell my house and the new owner takes down the Ernie Barret replica statue I had in the courtyard. It’s up to the new owner’s completely terrible tastes.
I don't think we need to get into the weeds regarding an obscure discussion of property or estate law because I think that misses the point. No argument from me that the family/publisher broke the law or violated any tenet of property rights here. I acknowledge that the rightsholders had the right to do whatever they wanted with the IP (including censor portions of it it!). I also think lawncare is different than literature for lots of reasons that we can (but I don't think *need* to) discuss.

What happened is that the books he authored had portions deleted because they were considered objectionable - which happens to actually be the dictionary definition of "censor."  That you think that's not merely "not censorship," but actually the opposite of censorship is bonkers to me.  And not for nothing, but i think we can agree that not all censorship is necessarily "bad."  But I think it's starts approaching "bad" when you're modifying someone else's art to make it less offensive without their approval (read: after they're dead).  And I think assuming that Dahl approved of these changes by not dotting his i's or crossing his t's in his estate plan is a pretty big assumption.
Also I think it is important to note that google seems to believe that the copyright grants the right to "derivative works" and not necessarily carte blanche to change the work however the copyright holder pleases.  The censored version can be a new version, a derivative work, but it is no longer the author's original work.

46
This is in no way censorship.
I feel like i'm in a twilight zone episode where everyone knows what the word "censorship" means except for me.

How is editing another person's work to remove language deemed offensive not censorship?
It’s not another person’s work.
It' not their work.  Does holding a copyright make you the author?

47
yup great to see oscar-recruited nowell > frank-recruited spradling
It is important to note that Nowell had an option to quit basketball and Tang re-recruited him to continue his basketball career.  Great job by Tang to keep him in the fold!

I thought Lockett was going to be a redshirt Freshman.

He is. Also don’t forget RJ Garcia who came on strong to end the year and will be a SO, Jadon Jackson who transferred from Ole Miss last year, and Sinnott. If Howard can take another step forward the offense should be in great shape.

Defense is where the concern is for sure. Definitely need some players to step up.

While this is sort true, I think that OT vs TCU/goal line stand should give everyone some hope. Tons of guys on the field then were young/inexperienced and they did the damn thing. We tend to cycle a lot of defense, so while yes a worry, I wouldn't call it a total worry. We got some good LBs coming in, Savage will be back, Khalid is till here, and VJ looked pretty good filling in. The d-line (specifically assuming Felix is gone) is going to be my biggest overall worry.
Matlack was disappointing this year after his early injury.  I am hopeful that he can come back with a vengeance and fulfill his potential.  Interior DL I have no idea but I think there is some talent there.

Looks like I will be vision questing on Spring Break.  What are your suggestions for a 3 day backpacking trip?
