Kansas State Football / Re: Andre Coleman

if our offense looks good this season i may be rooting for him to be HCIW

Yeah, if Snyder sticks around for a few more years I could see Coleman and Seiler as legitimate candidates if they perform well as coordinators.

Interestingly, depending on how long Snyder sticks it out (as long as he wants in my opinion) you have to wonder if several often mentioned candidates will want to continue coaching and/or take on new head coaching role if they are comfortable where they are at.

Leavitt - 61 years old
Bohl - 60 years old
Dimel - 55 years old
Snyder - 48 years old
Venables - 47 years old
Coleman - 46 years old
Seiler - 34 years old

20 years for us but yeah

What is the general Bulldog Nation’s opinion of Sherrill and Croom.  Sherrill had some
Nice years, but ended on a poor note (something I hope Snyder avoids).  Croom had a good team in 2007 but struggled otherwise.  Mullen was a heck of a hire in my opinion.

I see that your QB (16th), DT (29th) and DE (45th) received high praise in ESPN's Top 50 college players: http://goEMAW.com/forum/index.php?action=post;topic=40687.25;last_msg=1848280

It will be fun to see your DL and our OL challenge each other.  I am most worried about how our front seven on defense match your OL and QB/RB.  Our DL isn't overly athletic but has played a lot of snaps and our LBs are overly athletic but inexperienced.  I am hoping for a fun game that highlights the progress both schools have made on the gridiron over the last 10(ish) years.

Any chance Eli Walker can play the NB position?

I think they are pretty happy with Neil. Walker got torched several times last year. I don't think he has the coverage skills to play the nickle.

Yeah, I remember him getting burned several times as well... I hope we can find some way to use his talents.  Glad to see Hughes is back, he could help as well.

They’ll save that scholly, bud.

Yes, as my post states they will save it for a 2019 recruit (hence the four scholarships comment), however, the scholarship for 2018 is open unless they find a late recruit. If they do not Inciuld see a walk-in getting a bone for one year.

131
Well that sucked, though I can't say that I am surprised... it would have been like Tyler Lockett picking another school.  Sadly, we threw all of chips in that basketball and got burnt.

At this point, it seems likely that a walk-on will get a scholarship for next year as I doubt any serious talent is left (high school, juco or transfer).  Hopefully Weber and co. can make a great run and capitalize on the recruiting trail... we will have at least four scholarships and at least three key players leaving.

Considering KSU came back from the gutter it seems very shortsighted to think KU is forever stuck in the gutter... they have tons of big donors, good other sports, AAU status, etc.

Let’s not get complacent, we need to keep driving the wedge in football and doing whatever possible to catch-up in basketball

We’ve caught up in basketball and literally no one gaf.

The incredible thing is that the whole process of catching up in basketball took about two weeks of caring

Now that we are equally good in basketball I still don’t care. Nobody does. Because it’s basketball.

No way in the world is KSU 'equally good' to KU in basketball right now... Look, I am really proud of our March run and feel great about next season, but we've got a long ways to go to catch up.  It sucks to admit that, but it seems objectively true.

I hope our administration, coaches, players, etc. are thinking objectively, long-term and proactive (like a successful business).  Most of my KU friends are convinced that they will keep steam-rolling the B12 in basketball and when LHC Bill Snyder steps down KU will inevitably get better (similar to the Prince-Mangino era).  I think they are full of it, but KU's administration / donor's seem willing to keep throwing money at the problem.  I hope that our administration does whatever they can to suppress and bury their hopes as opposed to saying 'no way it will happen, we are fine.'  College sports is big business, we've got to be brutal not complacent.

I don’t understand the flip-flop since November unless:

1) There is something to the FBI probe or

2) Football fundraising is going very poorly

Seems like an oddd move otherwise, but who knows.

All of the nitpicking aside, I am really proud of how much progress our stadium has made in the last 20 years... just crazy to think where our facilities were then and where they are now.  I hope we keep the accelerator shoved down and keep building (within our budget).

Holding all KU jokes, it is clear to me that KU sees the need to have a stadium better than ours for recruiting, realignment, etc. reasons.  My hope is that we keep driving the wedge between us and them.

It's time for a coaching search!!!   :excited:

Thanks Brad Hill for building the momentum.  It was tough to watch unravel, but he did a great job taking over a program in rough shape.

This maybe an interesting insight into Gene's coaching search philosophy... does he pluck from NDSU, go after an established head coach at a lesser university, interview top assistants, gamble on an unknown, look to someone with K-State ties, etc.?

Kansas State Football / Re: Self funded
« on: April 23, 2018, 08:30:13 PM »
You must also consider that K-State enrollment exploded between 2009 and 2015, so a decrease in enrollment could still be higher than it was pre-2009. KU had a giant decrease in enrollment in those years as well.

Relative to many other P5 schools, K-State's enrollment did not explode, it only increased at a nice pace.   The uptick ended in 2014.
Idk why k-state is dying the way it is but it’s very concerning imo.

This isn't too complicated... state funding has declined 17% over the past 8 years while household income in Kansas has not regained pre-recession levels. https://realprosperityks.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Higher-ed-report-FINAL.pdf

Currently, university students now pay about 71% of the cost of tuition, up from around 50% pre-recession http://kmuw.org/post/students-state-universities-kansas-pay-higher-education-funding-cuts

To add to the issue, economic activity in Kansas has been well below our neighbors.  Missouri has slouched a bit recently and our coincident index is now slightly better than Missouri: https://fred.stlouisfed.org/graph/?id=MOPHCI,KSPHCI,OKPHCI,NEPHCI,COPHCI,  This has probably forced some kids to look away from a four-year degree or do so in another state.

K-State has also been hurt because while we went on a building spree KU went on an endowment building process; hence, somewhat lowering our competitive advantages.

I used to work a lot with some of the ag economic / economic departments of regional schools and it was difficult to watch top faculty at KSU be picked off by Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan St., Purdue, etc.  I hope we get it squared away and back on track.  KSU made tons of progress and hopefully it can get the wheels moving again.

Our kick game is garbage

Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

Kick game, wide receiver and linebacker are probably my biggest concerns.

Yeah, I agree that the kick and punt game is a major concern.

Linebackers could be interesting... Patton, Sullivan, Gallon and Green looked the part but didn't do anything to make you think they can replace what was lost.  I don't think Sizelove or Rudzik played?  Overall, I think that this position will shake out.

WR: I hope that Taylor builds off of this game.  There just isn't a lot of depth on the team.  Zuber is good, Harris is quick and Rueter had a great game.  Taylor looks like a physical freak.  He and Gruntley could really help with their size and speed.

DBs: Hard to tell without Adams, Goolsby, E. Walker or Patterson.  McGee and Monty both had decent games, but it seems like we are pretty thin on the two deep and will need to work hard to develop a NB and CB opposite of Shelley.

DLine: I thought that the OL, even with the reserves, really dominated the DLine.  Not sure what to make of this.

142
I hope he comes back. Unless going pro is the right move for him in which case I'll be happy for him and I'll hope he has a very successful professional career

Well said.  I haven’t seen him in any mock drafts, but once the testing period starts maybe he will move up.  I am always most concerned about bad advisors that want money, not what is best for the kid... I hate to see kids declare and then not get drafted.

Bummer, I thought Hughes had potential.  Hopefully Sullivan, Patton and Sizelove can step up... maybe Gallon or Rudzik can offer some good competition.  Maybe York or Green can step up?

we could really use another DL...

We could really use the depth at DT... but I would imagine that he is looking for another “elite school”.

Good conversation going here.  A few questions about the depth chart:

1)  What is the beat on Justin Hughes?  He had some good minutes last year, and is on the Spring roster; however, a poster above said he is gone.
2)  I thought Boom Massie and Kyle Ball had decent seasons last year.  Any chance that Hubert or Payne unseat them?
3)  CB opposite of Shelley and NB is pretty raw... any idea of a name or two that is sticking out?
4)  Looking at the potential depth chart, the message is 'run the ball'... I wonder how Coleman will change things up from Dimel?

To divert the Skylar debate, I will take a stab at a depth chart (please note, I have no inside information)

QB: Delton or Thompson, Hall
RB: Barnes, Silmon or Warmack, McCoy, Burns --> This will be fun to watch in spring ball!
FB: Richards, Sowa or Barta --> my guess is that Snyder will go with seniority for spring ball, but my guess is that they signed Sowa to play
TE: Lenners or Gammon, Kochevar
RT: Risner (out for spring game), Kaltmayer, Kuduk
LT: Frantz, Curl, Mills or Robinson
LG: Beecham, Rivas or Adler
C: Holtorf, Couch
RG: Mitchell, Creed or Adler
WR: Zuber, Taylor
WR: Harris, Render
WR: Gruntley, Rueter

DE: Walker, Boom or Johnson
DE: Ball, Hubert, Payne
DT: Dishon, Huggins or Robertson
DT: Davies or Wiley
LB: Sullivan, Gallon
LB: Hughes or Patton
LB: Sizelove, Rudzik
NB: Durham or Monty or McPherson or Noil or Stewart?  Not sure here... I would like to see Eli Walker, but with Adams out I bet he plays safety
CB: Shelley, Neil or McGee
CB: Patterson or Parker
S: Adams (out), Eli Walker, Jones
S: Goolsby, Bowles

KR: Harris or Zuber or Warmack
PR: Harris or Zuber
P: ???
K: ???
LS: ???

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / Re: Diarra
« on: March 19, 2018, 06:58:34 AM »
Meh, personalities are hard to measure without knowing someone; likewise, a 'competitive' or 'intense' person is hard to measure until you've gone toe-to-toe with someone.  I agree he seems to lose focus at times and needs to take better care of the ball, but that could be just age and time in the game.  If I remember correctly, he has only been playing organized basketball for a handful of years and of course missed all of last year.  I am excited for his potential and really glad that he's stepped into major role after Stokes went down.

Consider some of these freshman stats:
Cartier Diarra: 71 assists and 68 turnovers
Kam Stokes: 57 assists and 44 turnovers
The Flush: 50 assists and 50 turnovers
Wes Westicles: 61 assists and 42 turnovers
Mart Irving: 24 assists and 15 turnovers
Will Spradling: 63 assists and 40 turnovers
Angel Rodriguez: 101 assists and 85 turnovers

Clearly Diarra needs to improve his decision making, but its not like he is massively behind some of our previous ball handlers.

149
Sucks if true, but if I was him I wouldn’t want to risk it either

I haven’t been paying attention but is Wade a legit NBA prospect?  I love Claws, but quickly sorted through a handful of recently updated mock drafts and I didn’t see him listed in the first or second rounds
