South Carolina was not getting talent in state before Frank...for a long time. Frank wins with two home state players to his credit. He made a final 4 at a program that does not have the same history as KSU, although over the last 25 years, they look more similar than different. Frank can win at places that are hard to win at. I think that is all we really know, any of these other silly debates about he and oscar turn into pissing matches among loyalists. How Frank recruits in the short to medium will tell us a lot about how good he is. Turnover and retention are always issues everywhere, but good recruiting should solve that problem. I don't think Frank is really ruining kids with his style of coaching. I think they need to locate players that can handle the style. He's brought in a lot of 3 stars lately, if they can play his style, that's good enough talent to win and play in March often. This is not some generational struggle between hard nosed, out of touch coaching guy and youngsters who are soft and weak. They'll locate the right guys eventually. And yea, he took them to a Final 4. Pretty much none of us have been alive to see that happen at KSU.

Also, John Currie ruined all of the fun.
Frank did get local players to SC when he first got there.  Now he isn't.  Even after the hype of a final four.  He'll need to produce some results this year or be in jeopardy of losing his job.  Pretty hard to judge how good his team can be this year til they are half way through the SEC.

Frank went to the Final 4 due to the play of PJ Dozier and Sindarious Thornwell.  Thornwell was SEC player of the year.  Both were local guys recruited from South Carolina with Lamont Evans as the lead recruiter.
One complaint from SC fans is he can no longer recruit players from South Carolina due to how he treats players.  The other problem is player retention.  Player turnover in their first or second year is something like 60%.

One add to this post:  They lost an exhibition game and the first game against Stony Brook but way to early to know if this years SC team will be good or bad.

I’ll grant it’s not as embarrassing as last year’s, but outside of a few recognizable teams I’m still not excited about it. We will see how it turns out, I guess. I don’t put much stock in KPI at this point in the season.
I don't disagree with you about KPI and we will have to see how it turns out.

For example, Vanderbilts recruiting class has three players.  Two 5 stars and a 4 star.  We should be able to handle them due to experience but won't be a gimme.

What will the body count be this year from murders committed by fuckface's players?
Gonna be a tough few years for you.  Hang in there though.  Always impressive to have a guy pissing into the wind.

Hopefully 1 of fuckface's players doesn't try to murder you next since you think that kind of behavior should be celebrated
Impressive response.

There are plenty of reasons to like this Cats team. The fact that they won 2-3 consecutive games against good teams at the end of March is one of them, but not the highest. Factoring in that Wade didn’t play in those games bumps it up quite a bit though.

One thing is for sure: the margin for error to even get into the tournament is going to be slim after another super crappy non-con.
I trust I am misreading this and you are not complaining about this years non con.  This is a very good and competitive non con that will get us prepared for the Big 12.

At Marquette,  29KPI
At Texas A&M  47  KPI
Vanderbilt in KC  68 kpi
MU in tournament action.  67 KPI
Georgia State (tournament team)  81 kpi
At Tulsa  114 KPI
George Mason  115 kpi
Southern Miss  166 kpi

Eastern Kentucky at 268, Kennesaw State at 328 and Denver at 219 are the only sure wins I see.

Has anyone heard how the secret scrimmage against Oregon went.
Did Trice and Williams do okk
Stats in this tweet from Jeff Goodman
https://twitter.com/goodmanhoops/status/1056311219693457409?s=21but

We won 75 to 70 .  Oregon ranked #14.  Score doesn't mean much lots of guys got minutes.  Twenty minutes a piece for the guards.  15 each for Mak and Trice.  Sounds like it was a success and we no negatives.

From Wichita Eagle
Weber said. “James Love, this has been the first time he has been healthy for an extended period of time. We are excited about him."
I honestly didn't think he would ever get to this point. A decent Love would be a big boost.  When he was recruited he was described as quick and athletic.  Might cause problems some teams
Just my opinion.  He has more length than other players and that might make him useful against a few teams with really big post players.  Overall, I can not see him getting much playing time over the other bigs that have more quickness.

I'm not very impressed with the Antonio Gordon commitment. Based on what I've seen, he doesn't do anything that Montavious Murphy doesn't, so it seems like a waste of a scholarship unless Murphy decommits.
I don't disagree except that he is 6ft 8 and can shoot from three.   I am wondering what I would think of him if he weighed 225 instead of 195.  One summer with the current S&C coach could change my opinion.  For example, Trice put on 42lbs this summer and Mawien 25.

My grandpa’s KSU Wildcats were pretty freaking good renocat
Agree.  This is your grandpa's Wildcats.   Maybe not your daddys wildcats.

Not bad.  Still kind of disappointed on not catching bigger fishes.
DGordon might be another Pullen.  Guards from Chicago are tough bastards.
Walsh is just a good kid that is thrilled  to be at Oscarland.
Like Gordon played at Lawton.  This area has produced good players.  He scored 20pts a game last year and has a good mid range shot.  6'8".
MonteM is a forward who has a motor.  High speed and high flying.
I have watched a lot of film on these guys. Dejaun Gordon is not much like Pullen.  Maybe closer to The Flush.
Wash will be the star of this class.    Maybe Sneed would be the best comparison except maybe an inch shorter and he handles it better.  Big strong athletic shooting guard who should be a high level defender.
A Gordon will be interesting.  Underweight 6 ft 8 guy who can shoot from the perimeter.  Very hard to predict how good of what type of player he might be in the future.

I have 2 brain hemispheres that I can use.  Cheering for both.
Football for another glorious 6 to 8 game season, and a scuz bowl on Christmas.
Basketball.  The potential for a great year is off the charts.  I pity people who are football myopic.
I'm with you.  All in for a run at the conference championship in basketball.

Same players we had last year with all improved and experienced plus add  "The Worm" aka Austin Trice.  Trice has gained 20 punds this off season and now weighs 240.

39
Gipson (only 6'7-6'8) and JHR were both quality bigs.
Both of these guys were OK  but I rate them below guys like Mitchell, Norris Coleman and Curtis Kelly.  Right now I personally see Mawiens play at the end of the season slightly better than both of these guys but I would not waste any time defending that opinion.
Junior and senior version of DJamer at 6 ft 8 should be included the list of quality bigs when he was completely healthy.  Unfortunately, that was not very often.

40
One quality big I forgot to mention was Curtis Kelly.  Quality big who provided rim protection, good offense and rebounding.

41
KSU has never had much luck with bigs.  This is before most of you remember but Steve Mitchel and Norris Coleman are about the only quality bigs at 6ft 9 on up that I can remember.  Hartman got by with 6ft 5 Darryl Winston, and 6ft  9 Carl Gerlach that were good players.  Kruger had 6 ft 7 Bledsoe who was a decent player.  Don't remember any bigs with Altman, Asbury or Woolridge who stood out although Manny Dies came close.  Beasley was six ft 7 but a great player.  Don't really feel he was a big as much as just an overall great talent.

Right now we have bigs on the bench that might develop.  IE Shadd who will play as a freshman this year and is now 6ft 9, 250 lbs with a 74 inch wing span.  With 6ft 10 All Big 12 Claws and Big 12 All tournament team member Makol Mawien, we are as good with bigs right now as we have been in the last 40 years.  Maybe they can add a few more big guys in the next year or so but best enjoy what we have right now.

42
We also just put out an offer to a 4 star 2018 point guard that had committed to Northwestern but was not admitted for some reason.  Just became available but lots of offers from big name schools already.  Jordan Lathan of Grandview MO.
Lots of recruiting activity and I don't think you can count on any of it to pan out exactly but the end result may be good.  We'll just have to wait and see.

The biggest change they have made in my opinion are custom orthotics.  X rays were sent to the top othopedic sports specialist in the country and three pair of custom orthotics have been delivered.
(Currently as many as 80% of NBA players on some teams are wearing orthotics.  Lebron James has been since he entered the league.  His feet have held up pretty well for the abuse he gives them.

This was an injury update by Weber in this mornings Wichita paper.
Injury update
Claws should be back on the basketball court in June.

Weber said K-State coaches have been "overly cautious" with the star forward this spring as he recovers from a foot injury that limited him to eight minutes in the NCAA Tournament. But he is currently lifting weights and almost ready to participate in practice.

44
Thanks for the update on Williams.  Now we see how we do on McCullars.  If we do not get him, we'll have four open scholarships for 2019 instead of three and probably one or two more open up due to transfers.  2019 recruiting class will a big key in sustaining where we are now.

45
Thanks to the quick actions of a few, I now remember there is a pinned thread about this subject.

46
My screw up.  I forgot about the pinned thread.  Won't be the last mistake I make either.

Pitt Freshman transferr Parker Stewart has narrowed his choice of schools to KSU and Tn Martin where his dad coaches.  Eliminated Oregon and Maryland with his latest list.
Kevin McCullar is a four star recruit who will graduate from high school in Dec of 2018 and joing a D1 program with the intention of taking a red shirt for the spring semester.  KSU is one of 9 schools that are on his final list and he is in the process of setting up visits now.

47
Full season video of Trice highlights from juco.  Don't watch if dunks bore you.
Also,  still quite a few transferrs deciding where to go go and the coaching staff is looking for a good player who will sit out next year and have two or threes years of playing time left.  Lots of competition for transferrs like that who are good.

48
Cat97, stop. Don't indulge into that shitty troll trap.
  Agreed.  My mistake.

Evidently they need some help covering up some crimes. No better person than the dirtiest fuckface crap human muppet in the Midwest
Not even a good troll.   Must be hard being a KU fan now days.

Maybe they will arrest Weber and Taylor for aiding and abetting a fugitive.  For example, if Weber had not kept Wainright on the bench so much, the Overland Park police might have found him sooner.
