Kansas State Football / Re: It's Venables

Just listened to a podcast:
http://collegefootball.ap.org/article/podcast-bill-snyder-and-big-12

Ubben's go to is what has already been previously stated numerous times about how if Snyder were to retire and force Sean the job it'd be this last month and half before the season. What are the chances Snyder retires in August?

Honestly i dont see Snyder pulling this move. It just generally goes against his mantras of consistency and focus. It would be incredibly disruptive to pull that move right as fall camp is starting. Besides, i think he really likes this team and wants to coach it.

If Beaty wins 5 games he is coach of the century ... and he will leave

If he does and Sumlin under performs again at A&M that would be somethimg to keep an eye on

I've said it before, I've followed facilities projects for years.   This is the most protracted odyssey I've ever witnessed.

Lots of schools not exactly kicking ass have done large projects.  Iowa State made over and expanded their stadium and they haven't done anything lately.

But I suppose that Zulu had to make sure the taxpayers stepped up and built KU that sports park.  Before he could do anything at the football stadium.

Yeah, again like i said, you can't say football upgrades have been priority #1 for 6 years and then literally make every other project a priority over football. I can't believe Zenger keeps repeating that and expects to be believed.

I do think KU gets some upgrades done, primarily the indoor facility. But $300 million is just such an outrageous number to throw out and still be not totally clear about what renderings you like. Just seems pretty daunting and with such crappy support, even with some big donors throwing big long term pledges at it i cant imagine this isnt a rather drawn out affair.

Also feels like typical KU, trying to skip all sorts of steps, like ya know, having a tangible product to sell, not just a hope and dream Beaty is gonna make them awesome

for the last time, ku football is not hurting.  they're back and it's time we get used to it.

Back? When did they ever arrive?

1995 and 2008

 .

One anomaly followed by another 12 years later signifies nothing. They have never arrived. When they start sustaining success then you can have an argument. But not until then

Someone should probably tell Zenger that you can't say football has been priority since day one then you go and do a bunch of other stuff. No way any other program was in worse shape than football at KU, facilities or otherwise

This gives a better picture. Yes learfield hold all of Kstates radio rights and dictates which stations broadcast KSU content throughout the state. Im sure there are some finer points, etc. But overall, this is Learfield issue with finding us a new home in KC.

While I'll admit i have SOME egg on my face for making fun of you and then immediately seeing this....

Here is the the real issue, Wefald/Weiser SOLD our broadcasting rights to Learfield. So using this as some slight against Taylor holds exactly 0% water, because he or anyone at KSU has very little if any actual input/shot calling into renewing contracts or finding new broadcasting stations. It's kind of why Kenny Lannou explicitly states it's Learfield's obligation and responsibility to find a new radio home for Kstate sports in KC,  which i anticipate will happen rather quickly. Be upset and angry, but at least know who you should focus your angst at. Or just continue misplacing it

60
Go back and explain to your family what 'jfc' stands for.

61
Wait, are you thinking about 610 no longer covering sports for KU? Yeah that has nothing to do with Taylor. But to summarize your points

You are worried about a sport literally 10 people take an interest in.

You think 'hiring' people is THE litmus test for any AD

You are kind of a dipshit and confusing yourself about recent news and what school it relates to.

62
Fwiw isn't it Learfield(sp?) who buys our radio rights and distributes it, so they were the ones who lost it?

Uh no clue what you are talking about. That's like literally NOT happened. Youre obsession over women's golf though. I bet you couldnt even name a single current golfer on that team. Lol.

yeah probably, i have no idea

63
Lol. Jesus some of you guys are bitching about the dumbest rough ridin' crap.

Let's not lose sight of the fact that every one of our recent recruits has been wearing a white helmet.

 :sdeek: :sdeek: :sdeek: :sdeek:

Did not recognize that!! That mixed with the equipment staff tweets of some secret new shipment.... New Uni's?!?!

It was a pretty well played troll. The special delivery was a newborn of one of the staff. Lame. Lol

Hope those guys get better looking over time like major dreamboat Sisco.  Who is the guy in the mustache?  #myguy

Spencer Misko i believe

Would have likely happened at PSU with Paterno and his son. But ya know, stuff happened.

67
I understand that. And i agree the flip side is you can be over board with compliance, etc like Currie was. Just simply statimg that yes, its a very slippery slope was the the context of my point.

68
Scott Garrett is a really good dude and I used to be tight with him, had a falling out over some choice words and heated discussions on the topic of oscar.
Go on,  please

Just a really great guy who is very good at what he does for the Department. After i reached out to him to say congrats on his new title/promotion we had a great conversation. The more guys like him in the department the better.

I'll take cut throat assholes as long as we win and raise lots of money and the cut throat bad person is more in line with doing everything we can to win as long as it's not egregious rule breaking and covering up major crimes.   I am also open to discussion on what is or is not egregious rule breaking.

Outside fundraising and building things around good/great products already established was Currie really any of those things? Not really.

I get the mantra of 'we want a guy who gets things done, *enter caveats of "as long as he doesn't cheat TOO much"*.

I think you can directly link it to essentially every program that ultimately become embroiled in huge scandals. I'm sure Baylor started out with this exact same attitude of being so obsessed with winning/success that an attitude was taken of "as long as we dont do anything REALLY bad" we are fine with it if we are winning. Then when the success grew the willingness to allow gray areas to expand grew and the wllingness to turn blind eyes to things becomes more prevalent. And then when crap hits the fan the fanbase either straight up denies everything or stupidly acts astonished things got this bad.

It's really an inane type of thinking that if you invite bad people to do 'just certain bad things' you can tolerate on some level, that worse things won't come from it.

Sow the wind, reap the  whirlwind

69
Those are fair points sonofdax, I'm not rushing to defend Taylor. Just against already judging him as a dud based on anything. Yes he has some challenges in maintain amd even building momentum here. But like i said, based on his own histpry of fundraising and growth at NDSU i feel like he has some abilities to press the flesh so to speak and continue to motivate people to write checks

70
New, no. Just lurk mostly. What that has to do with anything not sure.

Again, i know it's hard to wrap your head around. But again, its the fricking slowest time of anything newsworthy for sports related stuff. What are you expecting exactly? Im just curious.

As for working on new extension for Weber. Taylor has been rather vague on it actually. Im sure an extension will ultimately take place, but stay with me here, the merit there should be whether Webers buyout increases or not. Hell i dont care if he gets a bump in annual salary. If his buy out stays the same, Taylor did his job correctly and that extension is essentilly a tolkien piece of paper. . If not, then yes you can bitch. But the longer that drags out negotiation wise, SHOULD make you happy because it's indicative that Taylor isnt some featherweight pushover

71
I honestly don't quite understand the defeatist/pessimistic tone about Taylor. The guy was an energetic and motivated AD at NDSU who really elevated their sports programs. Yes i understand its smaller program but still consider it quite impressive. Transitioning from Div II to FCS is nothing to scoff at, succeeding at very high levels and maintaing it on the field as well as imroving facilities/budget #'s at an institution that didnt place  a huge emphasis on those things is equally impressive. I think his personality is in stark contrast to Currie's but that's not bad thing, just different. Doesnt mean he's not highly driven or ambitious enough to do more than just status quo work here.

Honestly anyone that is trying to convince the board Taylor is some lame duck hire has really nothing to back up that statement other than silly anecdotes about how he looks like your typical middle aged dude. Sso what? Let's wait to actualy see how Taylor handles the program, etc during seasons and not literally the quietest time of the year before any real judgements are made.

I'm sure may hate the idea but if Craig Bohl has another solid year at Wyoming i think he a legit choice.

Gene Taylor is a pushover

You're basing this on??????.

Taylor has done really nothing to warrant any sort of label at K-State thus far.  Really the only major thing Taylor has done so far is rightfully granting a transfer request from Sutton before that situation continued to fester, amd i can only assume insisting Bill issue a public apology to Sutton for a moment of senility, which i can also assume Bill didn't enjoy having to do.

Not a huge decision, but a slight sign at least to me that Taylor isnt just a dude just here to keep the office lights on.

I am   at the people going on to the FB thread to tell the guys who actually played how wrong they are.

Some of it yes. But on flip side some of those players are acting like because they hated it, everyone did/does..

Bryce Brown chirping off about how horrible it was is a joke. That kid was unbelievably lazy and wanted everything handed to him and then went off the rails when Hubert started over him. I don't really care how mistreated he felt he was, there are still two sides to everything and Brown has his own crap he probably doesn't want people airing about him. Again, not trying to defend Snyder. Some other comments, especially Diles comments make you just shake your head at Snyder. But like I said, I've heard a lot of these types of stories about Snyder that don't make him out to be the classiest coach in America as some fans religously proclaim. On the other hand I've heard of plenty of things that Snyder does do right for his players and just in general. I think he's a goofd man, but also just that .....a man, like anyone else has a lot of flaws and can be incredibly difficult to work/play for and yes can be a giant ahole

Personally, I've heard the 'darker' tales of what occured/occurs under Snyder in Vanier behind closed doors. The problem our fans have with dealing with it or believing it is we have propped Snyder up to Sainthood status who does nothing remotely wrong or questionable to his players, nor does he always treat his players fairly. The ongoing dialogue on Chris Harpers fb wall isn't surprising or really all that concerning to me. Snyder can be a raging Dick to his players and despite the public image, reallu isn't much different than any other succesful ball coach. It is what it is. I've also heard plent of positive impressions and good stories from players about their time under Snyder. But no he's not a friendly grandpa figure that always treats his kids right or does the right thing.

But again, i don't think how he truly runs his program is really that much different than most others in some regards.
