Kansas State Football / Re: Pringle, Shelley and Risner

The fact that Risner stayed in for another play is probably bad news.  if were an ankle, he probably would have come right out AND he would likely have been noticeably limping on the next play.  Staying in for one more play makes me think it's an ACL, very similar to Jerry's two years ago where he tried to stay in after the injury.

On a side note, are the knee braces he wears for hyper-extension protection only?

As i was typing the last post i begin to wonder if the injury happened on the play before the one he came out.  So i re-watched and sure enough it did.  He got rolled up on by the guy tacking Dimel.  Now i would have no idea what it was.  It didn't look good on the replay.

I watched the Risner play several times.  The part that has me worried is it was non-contact.  He came off his first block looking to make a second.  He pushed on the second guy and turned to the sidelines and started to come off the field...the camera moved away just as he started to move so i couldn't see if he was limping.  It looked like he might have injured his hand/arm based off the way he was holding it, and the fact that it seemed to be the only thing that had a chance of being hurt as it was the only appendage to make contact with anyone.  If it's below the waist, it'd guess it's bad since it was non-contact.

He is the type of person that opponents fans love to hate....the fact that he is a 2X walk on makes it impossible for me to hate the guy.  he's worked his ass off to be where he is and he deserves everything he achieves.  I will guarantee you his teammates would run thru a wall for the guy....he's the consummate leader. If Jerry doesn't win the heisman (I can dream), I'm full on for Baker.

the students got the center court seats all the way to the top.  that place never had an empty seat while i was there.  Great games with Mizzou and UNLV stand out.  Also the Shaq led LSU tigers.  :)

Dang. Lots of questions for Whisker Biscuit.

--Where'd you get your name? It's a good one, I like it.
--What is your fave Barnhill memzy of all of the great memzies? Would take a top 3 list.
--Did you ever have to, like, sit behind a beam or anything?
--Why does Barnhill Arena look so weird from the outside, too?
--Is there a better court in college basketball history than this one? Nope. That sweaty, drooly hog is amazing.

Basically just tell me literally every single thing you remember about that acid trip of an arena. tia.

Sorry sb...i didn't see this post till today.  I have so many great memories.  I actually had orientation with Oliver Miller, Warren Linn and Michael Hogue.  Oliver Miller was this orca fat nerdy looking dude telling everyone he was coming to play ball at the UofA...i laughed (behind his back) and told my dad what an idiot he must be to think he was going to play for the hogs.  The rest is history.

Fantastic 4 year stretch while i was in school.  My 3 fave barnhill are easy:

3. Shaq coming in
2. Playing mizzou...mayberry missed a game winning 3 at the buzzer
1. UNLV...this is easy...1 vs 2...Camped out for 2 weeks to get the best seats...was like 20th in line.  Sat 5 rows up in the center.  Great game...UNLV, what a team.

Barnhill looks weird from the outside because it was renovated/remodeled/add onto several times.  Not while i was there, but it was actually a very old arena.  Professors would talk about the dirt floor it used to have everywhere but where the court was!  And no, i don't personally feel there is a better venue in college bball, but of course i'm pretty biased.  It was just so small and the students got like 25% of the seats.  made for a great atmosphere.

Barnhill was just fantastic.  So intimate, only sat like 9,000.  Students with the best seats and first come first serve of course, so lots of great camping out stories.  Coach Richardson was just getting rolling and our teams were just awesome.  Great style of play, great talent.  Miller, Day and Mayberry all played in the NBA, all in the same class, all stayed for 4 years.  What a time.  I dated a Lady Razorback so was friendly with most of the team.   Basically horrible people as you could imagine.  Got pretty much everything handed to them.

Lots of great stories about athletics at the UofA.  My dorm roommate went to school with Lee Mayberry in Tulsa (Washington I think).  Lee was one of like 10 kids, father was the school janitor, Lee rode the bus to school every day.  First week at the UofA we see Lee in a brand new corvette convertible.  My buddy went up and asked Lee where he got the ride...."it's my dad's" was the response.  Perfect.  After the trip to the final four all the basketball players were riding around campus on brand new scooters.  Not the scooter of today, but the small motorcycle scooters.  The athletes got whatever they wanted.  County (or city can't remember) prosecuters daughter got gang raped in the athlete's dorm by like 9 guys.  I don't think even one person got suspended let alone went to jail.  Made a lot of news but eventually just went away.  Today it would have probably killed a program (as it should have then)

Football was also fun.  Barry Switzers son played ball at the UofA so was always a treat to see Barry out at the bars in his full length fur coat.  Guy loved to have fun.

Anyway, times there were awesome.  But i grew up purple and although i didn't go to KSU, i returned home to Kansas just as Bill was getting it rolling so it was an easy transition back.  The past few bowl games versus the hogs have been fun but I've never wavered in my support of the purple.

Oh, and the name.  There's a movie called "I spit on your grave" from like the early 80's i think.  "Come on Angel, show us your whisker biscuit!!"  Just an early memory from a horrible movie.

It's funny, I spent four years at the University of Arkansas and never missed a home basketball game.  Nothing about it ever seemed weird, in fact, I thought it was probably the most awesome venue in the country.  Of course we had fantastic basketball then, and a band director named Robson that was a maniac that kept the place rocking.  Looking at these pictures i have to admit it's pretty mumped up.

When Mizzou was looking for a coach after Haith in 2014, Marshall wanted 7 years, $21m with all of it guaranteed.
