Kansas State Football / Re: 2021 other games
« on: October 21, 2021, 03:06:57 PM »
I did not see the game but apparently with 1:43 left in the game app st was down 6, scored a touchdown to tie…. And then went for 2? Was it a botched snap on the PAT or…?

That didn't happen. I watched the 4th quarter and it was 27-27 for the entire quarter. App State was driving late to score the game winning touchdown, CC was trying to let them score a touchdown with like 90 seconds left but App State wouldn't do it, they just fell down inside the five then kicked a FG with no time on the clock.

oh whoops i mis-ready the box score...it was with 1:43 left in the 3rd quarter. .i assume it was a botched snap on the PAT b/c no matter how much time is left in the game i don't know why you would go for 2 to take a 2 pt lead instead of a 1 pt lead.

Snap was good, holder got caught peeking and just kind of dropped it during the catch/hold transition. Even the announcers blew it blaming the kicker for not following through with the kick. It was a wtf sequence all around.

Nothing like smell of 2,4-D in early October. I’ll probably die of cancer but at least my yard is weed free.

Don’t bother with aeration if you’re not watering or you haven’t had rain in the last 5-6 days.

You know what play I miss, that pop pass that Snyder always used to the fullback.  Always gained a million yards.

Unfortunately, opposing coaches started pointing out the ineligible players downfield. Not really effective after that.

Joker used to be my least favorite of the latest Big3+Murray. But man, he’s been so good for so long. Really wanted it for him too. I don’t like to compare generations in their prime because it’s futile, but Joker might be this class’ GOAT. Makes what Federer has done that more impressive too I guess.

Made the trip Labor Day weekend of 2018 and got to see Novak, Sharapova, Rafa, Federer/Kyrgios, Sloane and then the icing — Serena play Venus to kick off the a night session. Idk if I could asked for a better 2 day stretch.

We’re gonna be fast friends. Jethro’s Hot BBQ is the only way I can eat their food. Cross post to overrated BBQ in your area.

I’m boycotting BWW until they bring back Buffalo Chips.

This is how I do it except I swap other sports and combofanning. Don't avoid the pit but it's always last in my browsing.

By the way, we've beaten COVID so we need to get together. Up down arcade bar seems lit, have you ever been there?

Absolutely need to get together. I’ve been there, wasn’t aware it had opened back up though. Get there early and get a cup of coins with your first beer.

Pain Killers at Bellhop.. East Village has a lot going on these days!

I’ll actually be up in your part of Iowa in 2 weeks.

Illinois had 6 3* dudes leave in the last 2 days, Bret already running them off.

Wife got sent for review on a business (United 75k) card offer for the first time. Never remember what I put for “revenue” and monthly expense for the fictitious business without being ridiculous. They must not have liked it this time. Definitely under 5/24.

What do you all use for revenue/expense for a fake business?

Quote
Otzelberger has been widely regarded as one of the top recruiters in the nation. His efforts have helped secure the services of Cyclone greats Mike Taylor, Craig Brackins, Diante Garrett, Scott Christopherson, Chris Babb, Chris Allen, Will Clyburn, Korie Lucious, Melvin Ejim, Georges Niang, Naz Long, and Matt Thomas, among others.

There’s a reason Hoiberg retained/promoted him. Gotta know who you can trust..

I've changed my mind on Darren Devries. That dude has a more athletic roster at Drake than we do at K-State.

Not to mention his kid is a top 100 recruit.  That certainly adds another dynamic.

Sounds like he most certainly is on the short list for Iowa State.

I will be shocked if they fire Prohm, dude has an $8 million buyout, that's insane. That and Mr. Potato Head Man has a tendency to hold on to coaches one year too late as opposed to firing them one year too early, well that's everyone but Wayne Morgan.

Speaking of Wayne Morgan, I rough ridin' hate college athletic directors. This is shameful
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/coaches/wayne-morgan-1.html

I dunno, man.  I've been hearing that he's pretty much gone.  Huge buyout or not.  He's making an insane amount of money for the results he's not managed to get.

I my money is on TJ O (Runnin’ Rebels HC) coming back for that opening. Unless of course he does what Iowa State does best, win the tourna... nevermind.

Going to “scout” little DeVries Thursday night. I’ll find Darrien and ask if Gene has called yet.

Moral of the story, stop putting Darren Devries on your coaching lists for K-State.

Fine, but I still want his kid.

I haven't seen Waukee but when I watch highlights I wonder if he's the best player on that team. I guess I'll see them on tv at state in two weeks.

Honestly, they’re all overrated.

Tucker makes them all better, evident when he sat out against your Dragons and they got upset.

Started Firefly Lane tonight, apparently people hate it but the first episode was very good.

You stick with this? Watched episode 2 last night. Didn’t like the 2 year look ahead at the end, but they probably hooked us with it.

It had occurred to me the cockroach Oscar was stinking it up so bad this year with the goal of lowering expectations next year, but this disaster of a season seems to have moved the ball into new territory. I can't imagine anyone supporting keeping the cockroach around if either Pack or Bradford transfers. Bradford transferring to Missouri or Illinois makes so much sense I can't imagine him not taking advantage of one of the opportunities.
Yeah, Bradford has potential for a professional career at the next level. I'm sure he'd all be for sitting out a year during that process. Makes sense.

No one is sitting out anymore. Something, something, something, Covid, you're eligible.

Correct. This year there are no transfer penalties. As for beyond this year, there is legislation in the works at the NCAA to permanently get rid of the transfer penalty. There are only like 4 or 5 sports that have the penalty anyway. Also very few schools contest the waivers anymore, anyway.

Losing any of those freshmen would be devastating.

Players still have to sit out a year. Grad transfers and those with extenuating circumstances being the exception.

How did Caleb Grill go from Iowa State to UNLV and not sit out a year?

He received a waiver from the NCAA.

Which everyone gets. Long story short is that none of these freshmen will have to sit out if they transfer.

Based on what I've read about football transfers, that shouldn't be assumed.

I don't know who said it didn't but the one time waiver rule definitely passed.

https://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/media-center/news/di-council-grants-waiver-allow-transfer-student-athletes-compete-immediately

You’re mixing up two different things. There was a blanketed one time waiver that passed for anyone who was enrolled before the fall semester, like Trey Wertz at Notre  Dame and the OConnell kid at Creighton.

The NCAA was supposed to discuss and vote on making it a permanent rule in their January meeting three weeks ago. I linked it earlier, but they didn’t vote/approve it, just delayed it again.

Pretty sure that was a one time deal. Allowing players currently sitting out to play immediately, primarily impacting hoops.

"In order to qualify, players will have needed to be enrolled in their new school by the fall semester and this has to be their first time transferring to a four-year institution."

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2922781-ncaa-grants-waiver-to-provide-transfers-with-immediate-eligibility-amid-covid-19

To MIRs point, the NCAA met this month but ultimately punted the decision on both player compensation and 1 time transfer. Both are probably inevitable though.

"They also delayed a vote that would loosen restrictions on transfer rules for athletes in some of the association's most popular sports -- including football and basketball."

What if there are grumblings of multiple players transferring out, it will take another 3-4 years for oscar to rebuild AGAIN, which would require a contract extension to even get recruits to listen.

With where oscar is on his contract, you can fire him and hire a decent mid-major guy for less to counter the buyout, and the money would be a wash after a few years.

If that keeps all these guys on campus, I'd take my chances to see what a new dude can do over the next 2-3 years.

(even if there isn't a threat of players leaving, I still go the mid-major route at this point :googlesNDSUcoach:)

Darian DeVries and he brings his son (6'6" 4* HS Senior point forward) with him. 2019 MVC regular season champions and 13-0 to start this year.

https://247sports.com/player/tucker-devries-46086079/

Toledo/Matt Campbell beat Iowa State, so the Cyclones hired him. Drake beat us this year. Do it Gene.

Got hurt/redshirted sophomore
Beat out by a decent walk on as a RS Sophomore. Sounds like people (fans) kept waiting for him to take over but didn't see the field.

Iowa’s defense was nice, but plays mostly zone schemes. Just need to get him on island?!

Either way, still an upgrade to the secondary
