This is really good. Arsenal fans will still cry, to be fair I do think this was a foul on Joelinton, but their process here is sound.
https://twitter.com/NBCSportsSoccer/status/1724523703113785650

How someone can watch that and not think that is a foul by Joelinton on Gabriel is a complete mystery to me. If you are the VAR and don't think it's a foul, your process is not sound, in my opinion.

The ball was probably out of play and Gordon was most likely offside. I get why they couldn't rule on those. I think part of the argument Arteta and Arsenal were making is that in a league where there a billions and billions of pounds (dollars) involved, you should have good enough camera angles to see that. It's an indictment of VAR that there are not good enough angles to say for certain that the ball was out of play and that Gordon was offside.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda. We're just a few plays away from having an absolutely remarkable season.
The games we've lost are the games you are supposed to win by having your senior QB make plays at the end of the game.

Yep, I also think the play calls on those “must get” plays have been complete crap.

I have no quarrel with this statement.

I hope all my pipes don't burst before Blueville gets around to winterizing my sprinklers.
The ground is so warm your pipes will be fine.

Pecan is my hardwood of choice when I bbq.  Let me know when I can grab a load of trimmings while driving through.

With enough notice, that really wouldn't be a problem.

I need to know how you pronounce pecan before I decide how to feel about it

pi-kän' (cross between puh-kahn and pi-kahn)

All of the other pecan farmers in Arkansas that I have met say it the same way.

Not sure if this is a mid-life crisis or not, but my wife and I are in the process (under contract) of buying 168 acres in Wilson County, KS. It is primarily a grass property. There are some hardwoods on the southern portion around the creeks. We currently own 80 acres in Wilson County and will likely sell that.

The 168 acres has a house on it and we will move there in the next 3-6 months and sell our current house in Manhattan.

Our plan is to plant a pecan orchard and graze sheep and cattle. We'll probably also do some pastured poultry and pastured pork. The grazing will be done in a Greg Judy-style regenerative way.

In the last 12 months we have also purchased a mature 22-acre pecan orchard that is 15 minutes southeast of Little Rock, AR as well as a retail pecan business that goes along with it. We purchased this with friends of ours from when we lived in Little Rock and they live at the farm to manage the day to day things.

So if you retire at 55, what's the move for insurance and accessing tax advantaged retirement accounts?

There are ways to access Roth funds before you are 59 1/2 without penalty.

I imagine a person would get health insurance through the exchange. If your income isn't too high, there would also probably be a lot of subsidies for you. You could structure your income correctly to keep it down to get maximum subsidies.

Ford does not make the Fiesta for the US market and a base Fiesta is nowhere near $72,000 in USD.

Haven't been this embarrassed since the last non-conference loss.  Not sure what was worse tonight........the secondary, O-line, Howard, or coaching.
Coaching without question.

I went and looked at the actual CPI data this morning and it is Transportation Services that is up 10.3%. This includes motor vehicle maintenance and repair, motor vehicle insurance and airline fares. The maintenance and repair and insurance components are driving this increase. Airline fares are actually down year over year.

The overall Transportation index is up 1.3% from Aug 2022 to Aug 2023.  The overall Transportation index is also up 1.3% from July 2023 to Aug 2023.

Headline: Inflation was so bad last year that real household income tumbled the most in 12 years, causing families severe economic pain

https://fortune.com/2023/09/12/real-household-income-inflation/

It always cracks me up when economists, journalists and politicians wonder why Americans are so down on the economy when unemployment is very low.

Some other interesting things from the article:
  • Official poverty rate was down to 11.5% from 11.6%
  • Supplemental poverty rate rose to 12.4% due to no stimulus check and no extra child tax credit
  • Median income for 90th percentile fell to $216,000 while median income for 10th percentile rose to $17,000
  • Gini coefficient fell to 0.488

Is transportation the non fuel related cost associated with driving?  As in people are paying higher car payments?

It includes vehicles (new and used), fuels (gas and diesel), vehicle insurance, vehicle maintenance & repairs, vehicle parts, vehicle fees, airfares and public transportation costs.

Very surprised at that punt. I bet Justwin is pulling his hair out

A lot of questionable decisions by the coaches tonight.

Very tasty three points today.

More of a struggle than I would have liked, but coming out of Selhurst Park with a win is always a success, especially when you are down to 10 men.

The economy is white hot, inflation is lowering, crap is under control.   Time for the Reds to vote out the blues and start the process all over again.

We have really changed the definition of white hot then.

What an insane bear market rally this has been.

it's officially a bull market as of early June
Eh. Understand the technical terminology. Hard to get onboard with looming crap storms.

When does it stop being a bear market rally and just become a bull market?
Officially when it was up 20% from its recent low. Early June sometime.

Right. I meant when does IPA4Me start calling it a bull market instead of a bear market rally.

So fair to say you think Brown v. Board of Education was incorrectly decided?

Not sure I actually need the clarification but if that’s your position I think we’ve established we’re too far apart to have a real debate here. We can set aside whether you think folks like Michael Jordan or Oprah Winfrey would have even a fraction of their current business power if they had been prevented from going into business with white people.

I don't know that I would say the outcome of Brown v Board was incorrectly decided. I don't know that I would agree with the reasoning in the decision and would perhaps be in line with Thomas Sowell's arguments. I'd have to do a lot more reading into it, though, before stating a certain opinion.

I also wouldn't support a law that restricted who people can go into business with. However, I don't think the courts should strike it down on 14th amendment grounds. If they are going to strike it down, I think it should be on 1st amendment grounds.

Yeah I don't think we're on the same plane of existence here so I'll just leave it be. Although I am curious, and it's a serious question if you know: has anything in U.S. history been considered unlawfully discriminatory based on your definition of discrimination?

From what I understand, I would say a lot of the sundown town/county laws were unlawfully discriminatory.
What if I told you Sundown Towns weren’t all white towns but rather non-mixed race towns with white founders?

I'm not sure what you're getting at. My understanding of Sundown Town laws were that they had a specific time when black people could not be out after and that these laws did not apply to white people. I believe this is also similar to other Jim Crow laws.

So, what is the activity being regulated by the law? In this case, it is being out after a specified time (e.g. 6:00 p.m.).

Can black people be out after 6:00 p.m.? No.
Can white people be out after 6:00 p.m.? Yes.

Thus this constitutes discrimination.
I see. My quick searching didn’t really turn up any cases of that type of law actually being legislated (or declared unconstitutional) so I just thought you were generally referring to segregated towns, which I think to you does not constitute discrimination so long as whites also were not permitted to live with blacks.

https://www.oregonencyclopedia.org/articles/exclusion_laws/#.WZMxAFGGOUk

This is one example I found with a quick search.

In your last example, I would find as the court did in Buchanan v. Warley.

After doing a little more reading, perhaps I should say I would invalidate the law based on the due process clause of the 14th amendment, but not the equal protection clause.

Why's that?

For Brown v Board, perhaps because school attendance is compulsory and forcing students to go to schools outside of their neighborhood is an undue burden.

Why's that?

For the mixed race business partnership law, because the law is interfering with how one is running their business.
