Big Ten/Pac 12/ACC are all much better landing zones for an up and coach to manage expectations.

I mean look at how long you can stay put with mediocre results at some of those places. SEC is the worst and Big 12 is probably 2nd for shortest leash for a coach.

ISU is not your typical Big 12 program.
Nebraska would be a perfect landing spot for Campbell, for both sides imo. Should Frost get a better gig or turn down Neb I think they should turn to Campbell

52
And Leavitt as interim would have been great for K-State football and great for Bill IMO. He looks dumb now going out and that is sad to me.

A HCIW made a ton of sense for the situation. Was the best argument in favor of the entire deal.

Honestly, I'm getting more pissed the more I think about it. We'd be moving forward right now. Now we continue to stagnate. Bill may set the program back worse than the last time he retired.

The idea that Bill rejected a good DC and hurt the program simply because he can’t accept Sean just being on staff rather than HC is infuriating. Seemed like positive outcome for everyone (except Bill I guess)

Currie is finally getting his shot at a football hire

He's gonna knock it out too, Matt Campbell or Scott Frost.

I think this is what the Nebraska coaching searching does, and should, look like. Frost being an obvious candidate but I wonder if he’d take the job - getting the players for that offense in Nebraska seems like a decent challenge. I think Matt Campbell would be a great fit in Lincoln.

Is he still at TCU completely by his choice though? Didn’t he flirt with Tennessee in 2009 before not getting offered the gig? Then more recently he made a dig about Tennessee not believing in him I thought. It sounds like he has at least interviewed other places in the past

The idea that K-State couldn’t get Stoops or Kelly because we’re K-State is absurd. We are a Power 5 team with a lot of good qualities. Stoops would most likely say no but it’s not because of us, he just simply seems like he’s happy not coaching again. And I’m sure Kelly might say no too, but only because he could get offered a job a tier above us. If he wants to coach again and we were the only ones offering he would 100% come here. Every AD makes a list and works from the top down. You put names like Stoops and Kelly on there. Dont compare what kslim said to offering Saban or Meyer. Take a rough ridin' lap WB

You think OUR AD put names like that on the list?!?

I think Taylor has only one name on his list. The one he's been told to put there.

I’m not saying he did but he should

56
Actually, Bill is a slightly less successfiul Frank Beamer.

Switch their jobs.

My biggest Bill critique is how lazy he's ALWAYS been with recruiting. I don't think recruiting here is an impossibility but you have to be willing to work at it. He's always thought his program culture could overcome getting outworked in recruiting. Beamer didn't have to do much to get Vick, that made getting Tyrod Taylor easier. Beamer built that program off of kids from eastern Virginia.

The offense than ran with Vick was dumb as hell btw. Should’ve been adopting those early spread concepts for his talents.

Sure Hayes might be putting guys in position to succeed more consistently than Dimel/the offense but there is issues with technique and developing guys that apparently aren’t getting fixed. Goolsby has been burned badly multiple times this year by being flat footed. There’s others but that’s the first and most obvious one for me personally

Again, the upside for Thompson is being 6'4 and less skettibrained. He's a throw first QB that our coaches will have to adjust to. He's as much of a runner that the coaching staff forced Waters to be. It's not what he likes to do.

Maybe you didn’t cover as many of his games as you thought....he ran for over 1000 yards as a Senior

As a Junior he averaged 199 passing yards a game with 38 rushing yards
As a Senior he averaged 152 passing yards a game with 78 rushing yards

I would like to talk about the tech game and how if we continue to play our dbacks back a good 10 yards that we are going to get killed by tech on the quick slants all damn day. I can just feel myself like this  :curse: watching the game Saturday

I don't understand why we do this at all. We have a team at 3rd and 5, but line up 8 or 10 yards back. They throw a quick slant and easily get 6. It makes me want to throw things at the TV.

It is maddening to watch.

How much of this strategy is due to lack of speed/athletes?  Do we play with huge cushions because we'll consistently get burned deep, or do the coaches genuinely feel this style of coverage is superior regardless of personnel?

I think I found my answer...

bullshit, in his post game he said "well when our safties are talking to each other as the ball goes over their heads we have some problems" so which one is it bill

Fwiw my dad talked to Hartman a few weeks ago at a Catbackers event and asked him why Hayes plays DBs so far off. Hartman said it’s not Hayes, it’s Snyder. Snyder feels like the quarters match is the best way to play defense now and makes Hayes call it that way.

Either way I think Hayes sucks and should go but thought I’d share anyway

Too lazy to go back and reread the whole thread but Kyle Wittingham. Not exactly gross but underperformed a bit since joining the PAC-12. Still think he’s a good coach and they almost always have a good defense

Should be shooting for .25-.3 mark for our QBs. Ertz up above .4 is absurd

Don't know where you picked these numbers from, but I don't think it's that absurd considering in our most successful years our QBs were right around .4

Based mostly on the inability of guys to stay healthy up at that .4 mark. Also it seems most effective offenses that use QBs to run consistently don’t do it to the extent we do. Getting guys 8-12 carries a game feels more sustainable and better balanced. I think you need to throw a decent amount to win consistently today and ruining guys shoulders isn’t helping. Also Ell and Klein were more durable than Ertz.

We refused to let him throw until 3rd downs. It handicapped him and the offense. I swear we are the only school that uses a backup who’s been here 2 years and treat him like a WR at QB. Might as well tear out all plays except 8 of them. God forbid we open it up and see what a kids got

You can say Ertz isn’t good but he’s definitely not a pussy. No question he has something injured. Avoided hits on multiple occasions that he didn’t avoid in the past. Coaches undoubtedly have told him to avoid it.

I should probably clarify that I'm not exactly calling for Snyders head. Replacing a very successful coach with another one is really hard even at Texas. That being said it's absurdly frustrating when it seems 2-3 times a year we get out coached and it's not because the other coaches did something creative. Against Vanderbilt I could correctly indentify run vs pass or even what run play about 50% of the time. There are no-brainer moves that seemingly would have provided offense. And it's not just always the offense doing this. It gets old missing out on a couple wins because of pure stupidity. I know we're not the only program that loses a game or two like that a year, but when its that obvious to everyone in the stadium someone on the coaching staff should be noticing too.

This is not an excuse for the lack of creativity, shall we say, in the play calling department in Nashville, but have any of you considered that you have watched A LOT of KSU football and this is why plays can be so predictable to you? To an extent, Snyder has an approach that has worked well over his career and he's going to that well again guys. Saturday was disappointing, but I did not leave thinking we've got no shot at the conference title game.

Yeah we’ve all watched a ton of Cat football but the other teams have watched our tape from the past 5 years too

I'm all for high expectations, but sometimes you have to appreciate what you have. We are clearly the 3rd best football program in this league in the 8 years since Snyder's return. (Baylor's success is largely based on letting a program run with no checks IMO)

The numbers below (from the 09-16 seasons) give a great perspective about what we have. I'd love to consistently win Big 12 titles and compete for National Titles, but what we have is pretty damn good.

I think seeing a repeat of WVU last year, poor execution, & play calling squandering an opportunity make it worse.  It's not the loses that suck, it's the dysfunction leading to the losses that are driving the way people feel.  I'll also openly admit Dana Dimel being arrogant & condescending the few times he's allowed to talk to the media affect my feelings.

I'll still have a lot of fun watching us win 5-to-7 conference games.

Yes this accurately describes my feelings

It's the same reason Florida fans hate McElwain or Nebraska fans wanted Pelini out. Yeah they win the games they should but they don't beat the good teams and get over the hump. 9 wins is good and I get it we're K-State but it seems like the last 5 years we blow every chance in games against legitimately good teams

Sure that sounds whiny but in the current Big 12 any average team is winning the same number of games. I just want us to still be capable of the occasional year we compete for the dr. Pepper. This was supposed to be that year but instead we're clearly in the second tier.

I'm not saying Vandy sucks but they are a mid-level Big 12 team on their best day.

Then so are we

Which is why there needs to be a change, because we should not be a mid level program. There are plenty of things that need to change after last night, but coaching happens to be one of them.

Neither Vandy or K-State are mid level programs, goodness gracious. K-State is a top 25 program and Vandy, under Mason, seems to be headed there.

Sure we might be a Top 25 team but do you see us competeting for a conference title soon? I cannot see it with the consistent baffling decisions we make. And I don't really want to settle for 8-9 wins a year.

I'll happily eat crow if the rest of the season proves me wrong but we don't appear to be in the same class as either Oklahoma school. It was by far the most disappointing loss and least encouraging game I've seen us play since Snyder came back.

I'm not saying Vandy sucks but they are a mid-level Big 12 team on their best day. They will struggle to score all year. Luckily for them the SEC East contains zero offenses of value so they will compete in every divisional game most likely. I'm also not saying we are ISU or Texas Tech all of the sudden but we're not OU or OK St either and that's disappointing because we thought we might be.
