Thanks for posting the article, HouCat. Saves me on paying for gE premium this month.

Also, let it be known that this is The Greatest Story Ever Told. But it was published a day or two too soon since their golden boy Jon Gruden was just resigned from the Raiders today after it was revealed he was a complete :opcat:

Speaking of which, does anyone remember the cell phone video that some douche took while following Currie all the while yelling "Hire Gruden"?

Currie is one of the best con-artists there has been. He's fooled multiple D1 schools, coaches, and agents into thinking he's a competent AD.
I would say that he is a competent AD overall. Great at raising money but bad at managing relationships/getting out of his own way.

If Fulmer hadn't pulled the rug out he might of got Leach to Knoxville.

What makes you think he's great at raising money? Did he raise a ton of money at Wake Forest or Tennessee the first time? What about the second time around at either university? He presided over a time where K-State athletics was having almost unprecedented success in all sports, and we were also receiving crazy amounts of money from TV deals. An untrained monkey could have raked in millions during then.

The number one job of an AD is managing relationships. It's literally just about all they do. If they're not successful at that, then they're going to struggle in just about every other aspect of their job.

Can anyone name another P5, or even G5, athletic director who has been hired and fired in a shorter time span that Currie was at Tennessee?

my favorite thing about ChERNOBYL is the volatility. It has correctly picked some upsets, and has also picked some upsets that did not end up being even close. What i'm saying is, take all the upset picks, and bet all of them. probably around 1/2 will lose but the other 1/2 will more than cover the losses.

I too like the volatility. It helps keep things interesting in my opinion.

That A&M commerical was the littlest dick thing I've ever seen in my life.

I saw comments on twitter but I missed it. Is it this one?

They are the dorkiest of the dorks. What a weird ass school.

I'll never forgive them for '98.

Also, I don't understand what they're saying at all.

Those are not terrible numbers, honestly. Certainly better than what we're seeing right now.
the offense has been horrible because the QB has been horrible.  in the last two years, when skylar has been playing, the offense has been as good as any K-State offense since 2012 (at least based on PPD).

if the offense sucks next year without thompson, yeah, that's on Mess.  but i don't know how anyone can be so critical when his starting QB has been hurt in 11 of the last 15 games.  that's a product of shitty luck, not bad coordinating.

I agree completely

probably helps when you're the only P5 and/or FBS college football program in the entire state (this statement applies almost half of the big 10)

Seriously, all this.

It's why the state of Kansas should really only have 1 FBS/D1A school instead of 3. This state just doesn't have the population to support all the programs.

What is the plan with Wabash landing in the NW corner? There was some tables and chairs but no one in that area the whole game.

It just wasn't rented for the game. Businesses purchase that for themselves for an entire game, $25,000 IIRC.

If we can't rent wabash landing out for a game against a top 10 opponent maybe we should consider doing something else with the area/reducing the price. It was weird looking at it all game being completely empty.

Price changes depending on the opponent. OU was the most expensive of the year at only $17.5k

The others are all $12-15k.

That's fine and dandy, but I think the point still remains that if you've got a top 25 opponent or matchup in the stadium, certainly if it's a top 10 opponent, then you need to find a way to sell that spot before kickoff.

The offensive staff has to be on notice.

This roller coaster ride of inconsistency and 3rd qtr power outages has to end for MoValley Messingham.

The following are Mess’ seasons as a P5 OC, showing his offensive points per drive (OPD), w/ national rank in (xx)

2012 - 1.73 (74)
2013 - 1.71 (91)
2019 - 2.37 (55)
2020 - 2.16 (67)
2021 - 2.49 (46)

Just for conversation fodder.

Is there any way to go back and see what Dana Dimel's happened to be from 2010-2015?

One thing that even the trolls should give Klieman credit for is that he was ballsy against OU and it kept us in the game. We were what 4-5 on fourth down and only time we didn't convert was the Weber drop. Those weren't all trying to come back from a huge defect either, we went for it on 4th down on the first drive of the game.

He's starting to learn the differences between winning at K-State and winning at NDSU. In 2019 it was so frustrating how conservative he was, in every situation. His risk aversion may have cost us both the UT & WVU games in '19. We're on pace to have the most 4th down attempts since 2008. Of course Ron had an obscene amount of 4th down attempts, his teams conversion rates were abysmal.

I absolutely loved him going for it so many times on 4th. Love the aggressiveness, loved how we kept converting, loved the play calls; it all made me feel good.

Honestly, we beat OSU with Skylar in the game. Changing nothing else, we're now sitting a 4-1 with a close loss to the #6 team in the nation. We'll see how the rest of the year plays out, but so far, I'm just not that upset with the way things have gone. Next year may be a very different story if we don't have anyone else better than Howard under center, but I still think we wait until year 5 before we start heating up that seat any for CK.

2017 UCF didn't have success the previous season

Just for the record here, undefeated UCF got snubbed again the very next year in 2018.

Like, when some of us bitch about ESPN and what not, we are not confused between conference payout money and the playoff selection process. We just don't see all that much of a difference between the two at the end of the day.

It wasn't as much of a snub in 2018 as they weren't nearly as dominant in the regular season, and also their starting quarterback went down in the last game of the regular season. Now, would this have made a difference if it had been an Ohio State or a Georgia team? Possibly, but it damn sure wouldn't have been as much.

Cincinnati is not getting into the playoffs over a 1 loss power program. They could get in over a 1 loss Baylor, Oklahoma State, Iowa, or Michigan State because those are not power programs. They can't get in over a 1 loss Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas, etc. It's not about conference affiliation so much as it is about the strength of the individual program.

What does that mean, "strength of the individual program"?

To date, 24 of the 28 teams selected for the College Football Playoff have been undefeated or 1-loss conference champions from Power Five conferences. Two 1-loss Power Five teams have been selected without playing in their conference championship game(Ohio State in 2016 and Alabama in 2017), while one other has been selected after losing its conference championship game(Notre Dame in 2020). One undefeated independent team has been selected(Notre Dame 2018). No teams from the "Group of Five" conferences or with two or more losses have been selected.

Going back through things, UCF in 2017 is the only G5 team that's legitimately had a case to be in that's been left out. No other teams had the resume or looks to be a contender. Also, the Baylor/TCU debacle in 2014 was caused as much by the Big XII and their co-champion BS as it was the playoff committee. The only other 1 loss teams to not be invited ever to the playoff has been Ohio State (2015 and 2018), Iowa (2015), and Wisconsin (2017); only Ohio State in 2018 was a conference champion. They were left out because of a matching record Oklahoma only had a close loss to #9 Texas while that year Ohio State had a bad loss on the road to unranked Purdue.

I guess my point to this is, if you're in a P5 conference and win your conference championship game with 1 or 0 losses, you're pretty much in. There are plenty of theoretical scenarios that you can come up with to how this could result in 5 or 6 undefeated teams at the end of the year, all vying for 4 spots, but it hasn't happened yet and is very unlikely to happen. Our conference is going back to 12+2 members, having two divisions, and a CCG that actually matters. If you run the gauntlet, you get in.

EDIT: Now, to the scenario that we're currently wondering about, harkens back to UCF in 2017. That ultimately ended up with two national champions, the very scenario the playoff was supposed to prevent. I don't think the playoff committee will make that same mistake again. We won't know for sure unless Cincinnati runs the table in convincing fashion and still gets left out (depending on what happens with the rest of the conferences). However, it will tell us for sure whether a G5 stands a chance at getting in or not.

466
Have the rules changed? If not, I'd expect Cincinnati to get snubbed.

Four 1 loss teams made it in over undefeated UCF in 2017.

And UCF is now recognized as a national champion along with Alabama because of it. I would think the powers that be would want to avoid such a scenario from occurring again.

I think fumbles can be improved.  :dunno:
i would've thought they'd have made that a point of emphasis with him in the offseason!

"See this?  Remember NOT to drop it."

Considering he had more turnovers than touchdowns last year, they damn sure better have emphasized it!

How many fumbles does he have this season?  I honestly just remember the sack and mishandled snap.

Will Howard currently has 1 passing touchdown, 3 rushing touchdowns, 1 interception, and 2 fumbles. That's a really really bad ratio, and is on pace to repeat his disastrous performance from last year.

We currently have 3 fumbles on the year, so I'm trying to recall when the other one occurred.

You guys really never saw it? I can't remember which groups, specifically it was going on in, but there were several, including the unfiltered one, where people were still "give him a chance" "stand behind your team" "you're not a true fan if" "Kleiman says he's great" etc etc etc

Well done cowboys.

Lots of sunshine pumping on FB about Will Howard. I really want to believe, but I just can't. Not until he actually shows us an ability to lead and not buckle under pressure.

My position has not changed. In fact, I've now gotten more down on Howard.

Lotta football to be played!

WELL WELL WELL

My phone says we're still down two possessions. Is this not correct?

Go hang some drywall, squawk

I feel like a lot of you are taking your frustrations with the sub par team out on me, and it's making me sad. :(

Yeah, because we love that Cats, and you’re an bad person.

After reading the rest of this thread, it would appear that I was only one quarter ahead of the rest of you guys in both perception and attitude. I'll start accepting apologies whenever you're ready to acknowledge I was right.

So far, the only difference I'm seeing with our offense from last year, is that this year we were able to win 3 OOC games. Now, there still is a lot of football left to be played this season, and no one in the conference really looks that good, so who knows what will happen. But right now, we don't seem to have any improvement from where we were last year.  Also, our QB play is terrible and we're not going to have any surprise upsets with Howard or Lewis under center. They just don't have what it takes. The excuse that they're back up QB's is also a bad one. Howard has had plenty of time to improve and he's still a turnover machine. Plenty of other programs have had backups come in and win in clutch moments. The one that sticks out in my mind is Saban benching his starter mid championship game for a true freshman. I remember Texas having to play a true freshman after McCoy went down in their championship game. Now sure, those are loaded teams and extreme examples, but the point still remains. We made a bowl game using a wide receiver as a QB, and were competitive in the games we lost that season as well, outside of Oklahoma.

Again, unless things change, we're looking at limping into a bowl game with a 6-6 record and abysmal QB play.

It's hard to pump sunshine when we've given up 100+ points and counting over the last 2 conference games. We're not just getting beat, we're getting crushed.

Gonna lean into this huh, cool. lol

There are similarities that can't be ignored.

Haven't come back to the game. Just getting an update off of goEMAW on my phone.
