Kansas State Football / Re: KU football is going through a rough patch

In fact, watching the Tech game in person, it dawned on me this might be the worst team we’ve had in this 12 year debacle.

I don’t know really know what to think anymore. I’m content giving LL 8, 9, 10 years or however long he wants to try and turn things around.

I’m existentially annoyed this Kansas football experiment is probably going to eat up (at least) 20 good years of my life with absolute garbage football.

These years could have been filled with awesome fall tailgates with friends and family in Lawrence, packed Memorial Stadiums, bowl trips in December (and maybe January), weekly anticipation for big games, etc.

Instead it’s been some recurring version of 52-7, obnoxious radio calls, and the sensation of a Tuesday afternoon algebra class in middle school.

 :Crybaby:

This is definitely not the worst team they've put on the field in 12 years.

We're going to be better than last year, and still have the same record

If we go three and out to start the second half, I am going to cry

We didn't, but we basically did

I'm going to need a cliffnotes because I'm not reading all the twitter ramblings of an overweight middle aged unmarried weirdo to figure out the backstory. Although he is right, the smoked salmon at The Chef is pretty good.

I think the sec will still get two in. Conference winner for sure, and then likely the loser of that game (one loss UGA certainly gets in, but two loss Bama --- if the conference championship game is close is a really good bet still ).

I think Big Ten gets the other two. Conference champ and next highest one loss team.

Worst case scenario (which means it will happen) is that both Bama and Georgia wins out and Bama beats them in the conference championship. In that situation, both are easily in.

This is really the only scenario where I see two SEC teams getting in. It is, as you can see, quite possible.

A 2 loss Bama team is not getting in. In fact would bet a sizeable amount of money that the loser of the SEC championship game does NOT get in if their name isn't Georgia. Again, based on past history, out of all 28 teams selected for the playoff only 1 team has been able to lose their conference championship game and still get in. That was ND in 2020 who lost to Clemson after beating them earlier in the year. Both teams made the playoff and both were ranked high all year. No way 2 loss Bama gets in while undefeated Oklahoma/OSU, or 1 loss Penn/Mich/MSt/Iowa/OhioSt look on from the outside.

so $3MM plus hopefully 2 years worth of accrued interest and penalties on that non-payment. plus hopefully DB's legal fees. That 3MM could double pretty quick.
Case settled a long time ago

If I remember correctly, it ended up costing them more by the time the legal fees and buyout were added up, then had they just paid him what they owed him in the first place.

Cincinnati has traveled this same path already, winning every regular-season game and the American Athletic Conference championship game in 2020 while dodging COVID-19 stoppages like everyone else. The Bearcats were ranked eighth and placed behind a Florida team that fell three times.

All those words and none of them addressed the fact that Cincinnati is currently in CFP position in the polls and the computer models, they're 4th in the Massey composite.
https://masseyratings.com/cf/compare.htm

It's flat dishonest to write an article about this and not point out that Cincinnati's profile is unlike every G5 team before them. They are so astronomically ahead of any predecessor that it isn't fathomable for another G5 to reach #3 in the polls and #4 in the computers.

Any idea if it is likely they maintain that ranking?  I don't know how much their conference SOS will hurt them compared to P5 teams.

Based upon previous history and looking at the current top 25, I'd say they still stand a good chance at making it.

SEC: Only Georgia, Alabama, and Kentucky are still in the hunt. Kentucky and Georgia play this weekend with the winner likely being division champ. Alabama already has one loss and has to win out including the CCG to make it in. While a scenario or two exists, the SEC is likely only getting one team in this year.

big 10: Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State, M-State and Penn State are all still technically in the hunt. Big ten east is simply loaded. Unfortunately for them, they all still have to play each other and so the losses are going to mount up. A scenario exists where two teams get it, but it's very unlikely. big 10 is only getting 1 in this year

Pac: Hahaha

Big XII: Oklahoma and OSU are the only teams with a shot unless Baylor flips a switch and suddenly wins out in convincing fashion, and OSU would need a little help too. Otherwise, BlowU is it unless they lose the CCG.

Remaining teams still technically in the hunt but that can't leapfrog Cincinnati without other teams losing: ND, Coastal, Oregon, Wake Forest, and Arizona State.

So yeah, if I'm Cincinnati and I win out, I like my chances of making the playoff!

DAMN... I mean, every conference has one, but the divide between them and everyone else... wow

Can one of you fill those of us in on what's going on? I haven't heard anything about SC.

Way too much football left to be played. Lots of teams left that can, and will, still lose games. They need a little luck on their side, but Cincinnati is still in the hunt.

Thanks for posting the article, HouCat. Saves me on paying for gE premium this month.

Also, let it be known that this is The Greatest Story Ever Told. But it was published a day or two too soon since their golden boy Jon Gruden was just resigned from the Raiders today after it was revealed he was a complete :opcat:

Speaking of which, does anyone remember the cell phone video that some douche took while following Currie all the while yelling "Hire Gruden"?

Currie is one of the best con-artists there has been. He's fooled multiple D1 schools, coaches, and agents into thinking he's a competent AD.
I would say that he is a competent AD overall. Great at raising money but bad at managing relationships/getting out of his own way.

If Fulmer hadn't pulled the rug out he might of got Leach to Knoxville.

What makes you think he's great at raising money? Did he raise a ton of money at Wake Forest or Tennessee the first time? What about the second time around at either university? He presided over a time where K-State athletics was having almost unprecedented success in all sports, and we were also receiving crazy amounts of money from TV deals. An untrained monkey could have raked in millions during then.

The number one job of an AD is managing relationships. It's literally just about all they do. If they're not successful at that, then they're going to struggle in just about every other aspect of their job.

Can anyone name another P5, or even G5, athletic director who has been hired and fired in a shorter time span that Currie was at Tennessee?

He oversaw a number of big fundraising projects at Tennessee that were a big part of him getting our job, IIRC.  We upgraded most of our facilities significantly under his watch.  I don't like John Currie but I can admit he did very well with facilities and fundraising.  I don't think our facilities are anywhere close to where they are today without him.  He helped us operate like a legitimate athletic department in many respects.  Hell, just before he got here we were doing atrocious napkin extensions with Ron Prince.

Well, it certainly is hard for me to argue any of that. I would still be curious to know the answer to this question though,

Crazy to think that Jesse Ertz would EASILY beat out Howard and Lewis, even with one leg.

It's not that crazy when you realize that Ertz acknowledged that it's generally a bad thing for a QB to keep giving the ball to the other team, so he didn't.
