Thanks! I am pretty stoked. All the things I need to think about are overwhelming at the moment. I want some pimped-out baby stuff - but don't want to waste money on Facebook ad BS.

Had the great news on Sunday that I will join the grand fraternity of fathers. Besides brushing up on "dad jokes" is there any other advice on what I should be doing/preparing for the next 9 months?

got an episode into schmigadoon on apple, looks like another fun show

Wife and I binged this in one sitting. If you are a fan of musicals at all it is pretty great.

To be fair, the reflecting pool is very very shallow. So that stat doesn't impress me much.

Yard dog you been remote working in the same room as your wife for 18 months?

Yessir. It has been interesting in different ways. We are both loud meeting participants on Teams calls which is probably the most "drama" around the situation. But early in the pandemic, we both invested in nice noise-canceling headphones which allows us to focus on our own work. But, we do like the idea of being able to more easily separate into rooms when necessary. We've both had important calls we had to just take in our bedroom - which tamps down the professionalism a bit. Both of us are welcome to return to our offices, but there is no hard deadline for return. I definitely don't miss my 45 minutes to work and hour plus home from work commute.

Shawnee has several new apartment projects.

Shawnee Mission Parkway and I 35.  41 minutes to Baldwin, straight shot to Plaza.

This is a cool option. We will add it to the possibilities list. We really only need the second bedroom for two people telework - but we have both been teleworking from a one-bedroom for 18 months, so we could probably make it work if we needed to.

Grabbing a cheap apartment is a good idea when you can spend they next year getting to know which areas you can afford and want to live in. Don't worry about the market.

This is honestly our approach at the moment. We just haven't spent enough time in the area to know where we'd want to commit the next 5-10 years living.

We currently pay 2100 for an 800 sqft 1 bedroom. Looks like we might have to go over 1000 a bit but that is doable just means less money being put away for a future down payment.

In all seriousness, I'd just move in with the family in Baldwin City, especially if it's less than a year

Just put in a brand new Casey’s, I think you are onto something here.

As tempting as that is - we were hoping to live in the area we would be house-hunting to get a feel for it. Also didn't want to be too far from the city.

i think the 87th & 435 area in Lenexa has replaced Otown as the epicenter of Joco apartment badassery - not sure $1k will get you a 2br at the new places like the link below as I remember paying more than that for 2 br in South OP 20 years ago but there are plenty of older complexes close by that area.

I appreciate this suggestion - we will look into that area and see what comes up.

Thanks to everyone who has commented so far. We found one in Shawnee and one near the AMC in Olathe that fit what we were looking for - but I was worried we might be missing out by just googling or using apartments.com. We don't need anything flashy. Just hoping for something that will feel safe and be pest-free. Amenities aren't all that important either. I said "KCK metro" because we aren't currently looking in Missouri at this time. Thinking we will buy a home on the KS side and don't feel like moving to different states twice.

I've never lived in that area. The only permanent addresses I have had in KS were in Hutchinson and Manhattan. Excited to be in the area but looking at the map of the region and the names of the cities don't really jump out as meaning anything specific to me.

Hey there everybody! My wife and I are moving to the KC area from Arlington, Virginia, at the beginning of November and have not yet figured out where we are going to live. Most apartment complexes out that way don't know availability until 60 days out so we have a couple of weeks yet before we will have to make a commitment. I know a good portion of this board has either previously lived or currently live in that region and I would appreciate any and all suggestions.

Our preferred criteria:
- Within 45 minutes of Baldwin City (we have family there we want to be able to visit easily)
- Around $1000 per month is the goal - we currently pay much more than that and are hoping to save up for a down payment on a future home
- Two-bedroom preferably
- Near the 35 corridor
- Flexible leases - hoping to possibly sign a shorter lease in order to find a home and be done with apartment living

I look forward to hearing your suggestions! Thanks and #GoCats!

Salma Hayek absolutely deserved to be on my list, hubba hubba. She's literal perfection.

Very excited to see her in the Eternals movie.

Probably going to be a mess . . I know I complained . . but here is how this thread could work:

Olga Kurylenko - One of my longest celebrity crushes. Started with Quantum of Solace and she made a recent surprise appearance in a blockbuster I enjoyed.

Ana De Armas - Played a great role in Knives Out and is set to be a Bond girl in the next Bond flick. The ability to be both adorable and sexy is *chef's kiss*

Emily Blunt - This is the first crush on the list that is part physical attractiveness and then also seeing her in her marriage. I know it is often silly to use Hollywood relationships as postiive examples, but her and John Krasinski seem very happy. She is also an awesome actress in a few of my top all time movies.

Blake Lively - The is the second crush on this list that transcends just being attractive to me because of how I have seen her in her marriage. Just seems super chill.

Florence Pugh - Most recent crush on the list. I may never watch Midsommer again, but I am excited to see her role grow in the MCU.

HONORABLE MENTION:

Tina Fey - Just have always found her incredibly funny and that's top tier for me.

I've always rolled my eyes a bit at the "RINO" titling of centrist republicans. Do Democrats call their centrists DINOs?

This thread is pointless without pictures.

Yard Dog! Good to see the catastrophe's sock make an appearance. Which account is the actual sock though? Yard Dog existed first but has seemingly fallen out of favor.

Anyway, is your rough ridin' Google broken, yard dog?

Just not the same experience - you are asking me to flip back and forth between tabs while reading the long descriptions?? I realize I haven't paid for premium GE in a while, but the least the board can do is reward my Millennial entitlement / laziness with a thread of pretty pictures.

imagine how elite it would feel to have a hand gesture specifically made to indicate you are actually not good. how nuts would it be to have all other teams do the upside down down combo fan to us. wow.

I tried to recreate what that would look like with the WC hand gesture - and the turn of the arm reallllly makes it look like you are holding "something".

Just started watching "Suits" for the first time. Has a kind of "if House was about lawyers instead of doctors" feel that I can get behind.

Ready or Not - 6/7 - more of a dark comedy than a horror movie - - really enjoyed the cast and the twists and turns of the story.

Is it possible that SNL could eclipse its record ratings from last year?

Without Alec Baldwin and Leslie Jones?  :dunno:

Do you think the hiccup is a certain "fire LittreLL" thread on goEMAW.com?

Add that to the campaign for Wolford picking up steam and it would definitely be a good idea for ADGT to take a step back and reevaluate everything.

oscar is making manhattan great again.

Reminds me of my first three years at KSU. I started school in the fall of 2006. So I had Ron Prince and Bob Huggins/Frank Martin teams to watch. Wild to think I spent most of my college years at a basketball school in Kansas.
