Louisville ---- beating Mich St
Indiana ---- beating Miami
Florida----- beating Michigan
Ohio St  ----- beating Kstate

For me, this might be one of the biggest keys to the game.   Our record is really good when up at half, and i am not sure we have lost when we were leading at the half.

Win that 1st half and we will much more relaxed and settled in for 2nd half action

Rod, Tay, and JO.  Congrats you 3
 :adored: :adored: :adored:

Great team win #26 this year

54
The good =
We are 6-10 from 3pt
We only have 3 TOs
We have 8 ORs
After they got the quick 7-1 start, we outscored them 33-21 the rest of the way

The bad =
We let them get 7 ORs the last 8 minutes.  This was after they had 0 the first 12 min
6-12 FTs
5-17 on 2pt

Angel had to siit 9 minutes and we still have a 6 pt halftime lead.  Lets make some adjustments and put these guys away before the under 4:00 timeout

Conf record football + Conf record basketball ---

1. Kstate 22-5
2. Fla 21-5
3. Ohio st 20-5
4. Miami 20-6
5. Lville 19-6
6. Oregon 20-7
7. Mich 18-7

** Crappy small conf do not apply to this awesome list

56
We just were not very good. Took that 9 point lead and then we struggled the rest of the game

Love, love Angel.   But he did not have it today and he almost tried too hard at times.

57
Last 11 games, our offense has been so good and so consistent.

1.18 ppp
53.4% eFG
40.2% 3pt
76.8% FT
1.61 A/TO ratio

To have an idea how good we have been the past 5 weeks.  This is what other teams have done in conf play

1)I said our ppp was 1.18 -- Belmont is 2nd in the nation with a 1.18
2) Our eFG is 53.4% -- Indiana is 45th in the nation with a 53.4%
3) Our 3pt is 40.2% -- Portland St is 20th in the nation at 40.2%
4) Our FT% is 76.8 -- Northern Iowa is 14th in the nation at 76.8%
5) Our A/TO is 1.61 -- Denver leads the nation at 1.59

* IN all 17 games, our A/TO ration is 3rd best in the nation, and our ppp is 19th best, and our eFG is 47th best

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / Hoiberg

So up 5 with 35 seconds left.  KU ball.

Let KU get all the 2s they want.   So u probably should have 5 guards out there and switch all screens

Withey sets a screen for EJ.  Niang is nowhere in sight to help on the ball screen.  He is lost, trying to worry about the basket.

EJ comes off screen and hits a 3 with no one in his face.

Hoiberg is absolutely CLUELESS on how to gameplan on defense.

Everyone remember last year, when Texas had 34 FTAs to our ZERO the final approx. 27 minutes in the game in Austin last year

 :barf:

100% absolute BS

I did not enjoy seeing 48 fouls and us being whistled for 18 fouls in the 2nd half alone this past Monday.

Texas is our bitch.  Dont screw the flow of the game zebras

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / Nicknames

Was talking to a buddy of mine who lives in Phoenix.  He is a Kstate and Cuse fan.  Follows the Cats but not as closely as most of us on here.

Anyway, when he talked about Nino, he was calling him "Crash".    Got me to thinking we need more nicknames on this team

We have Tay, Big Gip, JO, Art.  I have heard "paperboy" when refering to Will.   I was like, meh, whatever on that one

When Shane hits a 3 and is walking back looking like a stud, i  find myself calling him "Smooth Shane" but understand there could be something better.

Throw your ideas out there.

What type of defense do you play in this situation?    For the topic, i said up 2 points because if you are up 3, you should always try and foul.

First off, i think the team that is ahead should call timeout and set up their defense. I feel you use a zone press, pick up at 3/4 court and use a 1-2-2 look.  Here is why.  I have seen a handful of times this year where teams play man to man, the offense runs a bunch of screens and they end up catching the ball around halfcourt.   That is too easy.

Isu let Texas burn all of 1.0 seconds to advance the ball past halfcourt and call a timeout. Too easy.   Michigan was trying to foul Wiscy this past weekend, but couldnt.  The Wisky player caught the ball about 4 feet from midcourt.   Now his 40 foot prayer was a lot of luck, but you cant let him catch the ball at midcourt on the run.

Play a 1-2-2 where you pick up at 3/4 court.    The point on the press should play about 13-15 feet  in front of halfcourt.  The middle 2 should play about 5 feet in front of halfcourt.   The back 2 should be about halfway between the top of the key and halfcourt.   This would force the offense to throw the ball in and catch it a good 15-20 feet from halfcourt.

The 3 guys in the front of the press just need to make it difficult for the ball to be dribbled or passed up the floor.   Against OU, Kstate almost did this by accident.   After the ball was thrown into Osby, Shane stayed close to halfcourt, as did Nino (who was guarding the in bounds guy). Now Angel was denying Grooms, but the point is we made it very difficult to get the ball across halfcourt, and OU got off an off-balance 30 footer.

I also said call timeout to set the defense up.  Earlier this season, St Marys gave up a hoop and was down 2 with a couple of seconds left.  Other team did not call timeout. I saw Dallavedova catch the in-bounds pass, it took only one dribble to get past halfcourt and he got off a 30 footer to win the game.  Now it was a tough shot, but no way should he have been 30 feet from the goal.   Vandy also failed to call timeout with under 5 seconds left and Marshall Henderson got a clean look at a 30 footer.   And he drilled it.

Anyway.  That is my thoughts.   I am sure there can be arguments for playing man, but i just dont like it.

Feb 20, 1982.   Now i tried to research this, so it may not be accurate, but i believe it is.   On that day, 18th ranked Ksu (7-4 in conf) played unranked KU and won in Lawrence.   Kstate actually played KU later that year in the conf tourney and won as a ranked team too (And they also beat KU in 82' when we were ranked 18 and 3-0 in conf)

Almost 31 years in the making, but we are ahead of KU in the conf standings and surely will  be ahead in the AP polls come Monday.

We up by 1 at the half, but not pleased at all by this.   Some sloppy play.

I want to see more Gip.  He played well.  JO as usual cant catch a ball unless you hit in the mouth with the ball.

69
Kstate has now won 22 of our last 37 conf gms on the road. A very impressive feat.

For comparisons, In 1994, Ksu won in Lawrence over #1 KU 68-64.
After that we went 14-87 on the road, until Huggs was hired.

18 road conf wins in 16 years of Dana, Tom, and Wooly.
Now 22 wins in 4.5 yrs.

Damn Straight!   :eye:

70
Had a great shot to at least go 1-1 this week.    Hold Ku to 59 pts and then shoot 57% eFG vs the Clonies and cant win either

Texas and at OU this week.    Gotta find a way to still have 2 conf losses come next Saturday night

71
KU got an offensive rebound, and then a 2nd off rebound on same possession... resulting in McLemore 2 pt tip in
Then Tay had a TO
Then Rod gets a board and turns it over when KU tips the ball away from behind
Then JO grabs a rebound and fumbles it out of bounds
Then we let KU get another off rebound.... and McLemore ends up hitting a 3pt

Add in the fact that Rod went cold and missed 2 3pt shot and another jumper..... and it was a very costly 4 minute stretch

72
There are games when we are not shooting good and are just just throwing up bricks.  This is not one of them.  Cant believe how many of those 3s were just barely off the mark.   And we have had two 2pt shots that rattled in and out.   Hopefully in the 2nd half, we will be on and not just barely off

I know its not his strength but we need to set a ball screen on Releford when Rod has the ball out top.  Or even a double ball screen.  Make Ku switch and get Releford off of Rod a couple of possessions

73
I was somewhat optomistic coming into league play.  I felt we could go 12-6.

I thought we needed to be 4-0 to start Big 12 play.  We accomplished that.  Now......

Step 2 = Win 4 of these next 6 games
1) We have 3 games we should win --- home games vs Isu and Texas and at Tech
2) Between KU at home, then road games in Ames and Norman.... we need to get 1 of these for sure

But for now... One game at a time.... and beating KU on Tuesday to go to 5-0 would be  HUGE.

74
62 wins 38 losses.  Is it ironic or weird at all that in conf game #100, we got a win over Huggy

The previous 100 conf games we were 33-67 (96 under Wooly)

The 100 conf games before that, we were 32-68 (88 under Tan Tom)

75
Considering the opponent.... a team who struggles to score.   WV is 11-17 and has gotten to the FT line 14 time because we have committed 14 fouls

Now, yes we shot the ball extremely well too, but the only thing on defense we did well was not let get any off boards
