Quick thoughts about these 2 play in games before the real Madness can begin tommorrow

Iowa  got up early 16-4.  Led at halftime.  And for the 9th time this season they lost when ahead at the half.  Ouch.

Warren for NC St is an absolute stud.  Not for one second last night did I think Xavier was gonna win.

I think Tenn (vs Umass) and NC St (vs SLU) could easily win their next game too.  Be shocked if at least 1 doesn't win

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / Cats vs Clones

same old Cats.   Cant rebound on defensive end. Turn the ball way too much.  Letting Isu get half of their misses and we turn the ball over on 1/4 our poss

We shoot almost 64% eFG..... that is the only thing keeping us in the game

Omari shooting 2 3pt shots.  Gip with lazy pass to Omari for a wide open layup. Gip misses point blank layup.  Will and Foster just lose ball off dribble............... all costly stupid things we did in first half

Foster being a stud.  Omari driving to the rim (quit effing shooting 3s EMAPE) and getting 2 buckets.  Shane deciding he want to give effort today (4 reb 2 blk to go along with 7 pts)..... all of these we like.

8 Big 12 games =

0.96 Pts per poss.
39.7% eFG
26.7 2pt% allowed
39.6% 3pt% allowed

These stats are INCREDIBLE.  Especially when u consider the new rules that help the offenses and the overall FTR of teams.

And if you add in Kstate's last 2 meaningful non conf games (Miss and GW... both top 100 rpi teams)....
Those 2 averaged = 0.84 ppp, 37.9 eFG%, 18% 3pt, 40% 2pt

What u get is this ---------------
We are 10-0, and Bad Mother effers in the Octogon of DOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!

Against Ku in the OT, with us struggling. Tonight under 2 min to play in a tie game..... NuWill for 3... Bang!!!

31
Doom.  Our Defense at home.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!!  :comehere:

32
just in the first 20 minutes of the 2nd half

Not too mention, Baylor hit a 3 after an offensive rebound within the 1st minute of the 1st overtime

This is reason #1 why we lost.   #2 reason is a distant 2nd

They have really struggled at home as of late, losing 4 in a row.  The numbers are just not good at all.

Game       PPP   eFG     2Pt     3Pt     TO%
OU(1-18)  0.96  45.8  18-39   6-20    17.2
UT(1-25)  0.85  34.8   15-39   3-17   18.3
WV(1-28)  1.02  56.8   10-24  10-20  27.0
KU(2-4)    0.79  39.4   10-35   6-20   16.7
4 gm Ave  0.90  42.3  38.7%  32.5% 19.5

They also are only grabbing 28.5 OR% in those 4 games
Defensively they are allowing 1.03 ppp and 47.8 eFG in those 4 (pretty decent)

* Heslip, who is shooting 48.9% from 3pt in Big 12 games was 10-25 in those 4.  He is a dangerous shooter and is shooting 8 3pt per game. We did a very good on Forte in Manhattan.  Got to have that same approach when guarding Heslip on Saturday
* Jefferson/Austin/Gathers only made 28-81 2pt shots (34.6%).  That's a big reason why Baylor only hit the 38.7 on 2pt shots

We have struggled with defense on the road.  KU, Isu and WV all have been pretty good offensive teams at home.  We need to make it difficult on Baylor and not let break out of the funk

34
14-1 under #Bruceketball

And Kstate now has won 15 of last 16  home Big 12 games.   This is the best stretch that we have had in a long long long time

We had a stretch where we won 12 of 13 in the 06-07 and 07-08 seasons (only loss was KU at home in 07 during that run)

35
Not good enough.   Can't have under 1.00 in the 2nd half.  Only 8-23 from 2pt.  Gotta be closer to 45-47% in the 2nd half

KU got 1 extra poss since they started the game with ball and had final shot.  29 pts on 34 Def poss is as good as you are gonna get.
36.5 eFG, 44% from 2pt, only 1-8 3pt.    The poss where they got 3 FTs is the one that hurt.

KU only with 4 TOs in their 34 poss.   Hopefully we can disrupt their halfcourt O a little more in 2nd half

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / Our Defense at home
« on: February 08, 2014, 03:23:10 PM »
FAN and I have talked about how good our Defense has been at home.   Here are the defensive numbers vs our 6 teams we beat in the OOD that are top 100 rpi teams (Miss, GW, Osu, OU, WV, UT)

PPP Allowed = 0.92
eFG% = 38.9
3Pt% = 25.5 (25-98)
2Pt% = 39.2 (91-232)
TO% = 20.1

We also held T Tech to 0.92 ppp and 38.4 eFG%.   They are not top 100, but they are decent on offense (top half in league games in both PPP/eFG)

Just really impressive holding teams to under 40% from 2pt, allowing only 1/4 of 3pt shots to be made, and forcing a TO every 1/5 poss.

As good as the defense has been.  It's the offense that has to be solid if we want to win on Monday.  In those 6 games, we are ave 1.10 and 51.4 eFG%

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / What a lousy half
« on: February 01, 2014, 01:48:39 PM »
We have 31 pts in 37 possesions.

Our defense has looked lousy.... letting WV guards blow by us and get layups or fouls

First conf game all year I have been upset with the officiating. 13 fouls to 6.  Its fine they want to call every little bump on us a foul, but they don't want to call ticky tacky fouls on WV.   I know we got fouled on a few shots inside and Will gets bumped on the perimeter causing him to lose his balance and nothing called

We have to be tons better on offense.  Only had 10 pts in the final 9:30 of the half.  Missed 13 of final 17 shots

38
2009 --  We upset #11 Texas in Austin with Denis going off for 44

2010 -- We took down then #24 Baylor by 2 in Waco.  Baylor was a 3 seed Elite 8 team that year

2011 -- We went down to Austin late in the year and beat #7 Texas 75-70

2012 -- In the same week, we beat #9 Baylor by 1 and #3 Mizzou by 10

2013 -- We never beat a ranked team but did beat OU by 2.   We were the only team to win in Norman as they went 8-1 in conf

2014 - ??

39
Foster missed a driving layup.  Thomas missed a fast break layup.  Gip played great but even he had 2 easy 3 foot shots with no one contesting the shot.     When u shoot 25% from 3pt and 57% from FT line.... cant afford to miss that many shots at the rim that are not really contested (Im not even counting the shots we had from inside 5 feet that were contested, because some of those you are gonna miss)

40
Combined =
33.1 pts
59.5 eFG%
56-70 FT (80.0%)
17-39 3pt (43.6)

Shane =
13.6 pts
56.3 eFG%
17-39 3pt (43.6%)
18-22 FT (81.8)

Gip =
11.9 pts
62.9 eFG
17-23 FT (73.9)

Nino =
7.6 pts
60.6 eFG
21-25 FT (84.0)

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / please bench Omari
« on: January 14, 2014, 07:05:36 PM »
I know this has been discussed before....

Serioulsy, he came in for like 5 minutes and screwed up 2 possessions (TO and missed 2 FTs).   He was a liability on offense ( we scored 5 pts in his 4:30-5:00 playing time)

OU (home)
WV (home)
at Texas
at Isu
T Tech (home)
at WV

We really need to beat OU and at least get 1 of the 2 winnable road games (Tex, WV).
We should be able to take care of WV and Tech at home, and the game in Ames is gonna be pretty tough to win.

This would put us at 6-3 at the halfway mark.... with 3 of the following 4 games being at home (Texas, KU, at BU, TCU)
It would be awesome to win all 3 (OU, at WV, at Tex), but really need to get 2 for sure (OU win prob the most important since its a top 50 win)

For those who are all about the "one game at a time" talking point, that is fine.   Im focused and ready for OU.  At the same time, I know how important it could be if we get to 6-3 (or better) at the halfway point of the B12 season

43
 :emawkid:

And won 14 of last 21 road games in the Big 12

and we are 34-13 in our last 47 conf games.

Not too shabby for a football school

Kansas State Football / Last 7 games - Jake Waters
« on: December 29, 2013, 12:15:37 AM »
17.4 yds per completion
14 pass TDs (18 total TD) 4 ints

I still think we should play both QBs next year, and I think Sams will be a big part of this team next year.  But 17.4 per completion, the Waters-Haters need to take a chill.

Seems to be a trend.   Getting out to a quick lead.   And then some horrible offense by the losing teams

1) Indiana started 4-16 FGs with 12 TOs...... Cuse built a 29-11 lead
2) Mia started 5-27 FGs...... Marq got up 26-14
3) LaSalle started 4-18 FGs...... Wich St got up 25-12
4) Marq started 2-14 FGs with 7 TOs .... Cuse were up 19-7
5) Ohio St was 8-36 FGs .... and Wich St had a 37-22 lead
6) Fla started 4-19 FGs..... Mich was up 30-11

We saw 1st half scoring outputs of 22,16,22,18,22 by those teams above (only Fla came on a bit to get 30 pts in 1st hf)

Unfortunately, we were apart of this trend on the 2nd day of the tourney.....   started 5-18 FGs and trailed 28-11

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / KU as a 1 seed
« on: March 29, 2013, 10:01:47 PM »
Not sure why KU fans would want ur team being a 1 seed

Last 10 times as a 1 seed....
6 times bounced in the sweet 16 or Rd of 32
Another time lost to a lowly 11seed in Elite 8
2 times got to FF like a 1 seed is projected

KU as a 2, 3, 4 seed has performed better than average. Just saying......

BTW..... KU followers, don't turn this into a Ksu hasn't been a 1 seed, blah blah
This topic is about KU not doing well as a 1 seed.  KU as a 2 or 3 much better results.

Really sucks that we dont get to watch our team play tommorrow.    So bummed we never get to see Rod Tay and JO wear that uniform again.
So depressed we will have to wait over 7 months to see the adorable Shane and Angel again.

So, so, so ...... :frown:
