lil wacky asked mom one time why racism existed. I said: "Mom, I don't get it. Puppies come in all different shapes and sizes and everyone loves puppies! What's the difference? It's so stupid!".  :gocho:

I love puppies. But I don't trust them.

People on this board don't hate Claws. They hate the racists in our fanbase. There is seriously a thread on GPC right now about whether he'll be as good as Christian Laetner (because white, duh), and whether he'll be able to teach our team (ya know, black people) "the Kansas work ethic" (in other words, how to work like a white person).

You got it all wrong. That train of thought isn't racist against black people, it is racist against white people. They're assuming the only way a white guy could make a D1 team like K-State is if he has a really good work ethic.

No NIT invite, obvs.  Got an offer from the tourney below that, but we would've had to pay $30K.  AD decided better off to shut it down as accepting that invitation would "cause more harm than good."

Thank goodness.  Are there any other ways to spend $30k in order to be MORE humiliated?

Serious question.  Please post thoughts below.  TIA.

Regardless of your stance on this topic,  I think we can all agree that this gesture makes ZERO sense as an attempt to artificially boost attendance at the game. 50-some extra people would not be noticeable, and if these really are the hardest of the hardcore fans, they were already going to show up.

The play-by-play guy at WSU seems to think that Marshall would have interest in Texas. Gregg would build an absolute monster at UT, would be scary. I bet he would take this year's team and make them at least 5 games better.
and his "abrasive" personality would be a better fit there than most blue bloods imo.  Really, his act (or anyone's for that matter) will be accepted as long as he wins.  Hell, the hard core UT bb fans will embrace Gregg's total departure from Barnes' cool and detached style.  I just hope UT's AD doesn't rely on his NBA background goes with a Kevin O'Neill or Eddie Jordan type.

I doubt that all five or six of the "hardcore UT bb fans" would have much of an impact on a UT coaching search.

All coaches have massive egos. Marshall isn't going anywhere unless a blue blood comes calling. And he probably shouldn't.

Agreed. Marshall has it made where he is. But it will be hard for him to resist the school that wants to dump millions more than WSU can afford in his lap.

There aren't many non blue bloods that will do that, considering he's already pretty close to $2 million. And the security/goodwill he's built up in Wichita is worth a lot. Rebuilding ain't easy.

I think this is about right.  Don't forget that no college program could successfully lure Brad Stevens away either.  Basketball simply is not THAT big of a revenue generator, even for the largest schools.  To the extent most bigger schools could afford to pay more than $2 million to a BBall coach, that money is going toward getting a better FB coach or facilities since FB is probably 90% of what drives conference alignment, TV revenue, etc.

Unless Marshall is just sick of living in Wichita, I do not see why he would go anywhere else at least at the college level.

I wouldn't pick the Cats in any game except against Tech/TCU

That's funny, because at this point those are precisely the two games I would be the least confident about (plus maybe WVU).

Kansas State Football / Re: Another Kstate rule
« on: March 06, 2015, 11:34:28 AM »

These are the good type of rules to force to happen. Take advantage of any weak link in the rules and exploit it death all the way to a 9 win season.
I think its a dumb rule to begin with... if your stated goal is to make college football less interesting then yes, handcuff offenses more.
This.  and how in the eff are they going to tell on the spot if the OL is more than one yard down field.  Eye test?  This will eff up good plays, stopped by shitty refs.

Agreed... They will likely just throw a flag on this play every time it's ran now just assuming IBDF.  So... I saw... we FAKE the fake run pass...  Fake the run... then fake the pass... THEN RUN!!  #schemed.  :billdance:

This is just asking for another K-State rule: "Teams shall only be allowed one fake per down, which must occur within the first 3 seconds after the snap. No double fakes. A triple fake is right out. Quadruple fakes are similarly strictly prohibited" etc etc...

Just imagine, our crowd looks like that (but with racial diversity) on TV. Man. Recruits will be dying to be a ksu cat

#bowtieout

15085
Might not be a popular view around here, but the major media outlets aren't going to want to cover a team that has intentionally vulgar fans. Folks in here constantly complain about recruiting issues, but recruits want their games to be on major tv outlets--they don't give an eff that the fans keep effing yelling eff-KU to pump themselves up or whatever the hell the point is supposed to be of it.

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / Re: Can oscar Stay?
« on: March 03, 2015, 01:58:51 PM »
The bigger question is, who would you replace him with?  Who would want to coach at a school that fires a coach who won a conference championship in one of the toughest basketball conferences in the nation and went to the NCAA Tournament every year he was there?

This living on the bubble stuff is hard to get accustomed too.  It's much simpler to be very bad I think.

Yeah. Leave it to oscar to flip the NOS switch 3 feet from the finish line

This is a pretty perfect analogy, really.

I don't know.  I agree the resume is not a typical NCAA resume, but if I could sneak into the Tournament committee meeting I would scream "so what if K-State sucks against crappy teams, there's no chance they'll get matched up with one in the NCAA Tourney!"

Has anyone looked into K-State's record against prospective NCAA teams?  Wouldn't that be weird if we had a winning record amongst the teams that make it in?

This is about as much as I could ask for after K-State basically threw away any chance at the NCAA by losing to TTU.  If we beat Texas and win at least one Big 12 tourney game, at least now I can watch the selection show and gripe without seeming like a complete idiot when K-State isn't selected.

Seriously, what a hilariously weird team when some people think you are not even sniffing an NCAA berth and others think you may deserve a spot in the Top 25.

Unfortunately, with this team I honestly think we'd go further in the NCAA than the NIT.

At the end of every win, fans gingerly step on to the court and personally escort opposing teams and coaches to the visiting locker room.  After safely arriving, fans tend to any players that may have been inadvertently bumped (see: assaulted) during the game and administer first aid as necessary.

Remaining fans on the court shake hands and cordially congratulate each other on another rousing display of spirit and sportsmanship.

I like that.  Sort of like ushers at a wedding walk the female guest to their seat except our usher would walk each opposing team player to the locker room.

Exactly. But no locking arms so as to avoid any chances of chicken winging. Maybe they could hold hands, or the players could hold onto the attendant fan's shoulder.

Of course, the fans should first offer the player a single white rose and say "my condolences for the results of your sporting match good sir. Please do follow me now to safety now."

While I am equally disgusted by the classless, blatant disregard for rules shown by LHC Bill Snyder and my Alma Mater, these coaches have a point.

The weird influence the Texas Board of Education has over conference alignment is what sunk the SWC and what will sink the B12

When you think about it, it is not that strange that a state-wide institution has a strong influence over state-run schools and the associations those schools form.

What is actually kind of weird is how much influence TV viewership has over conference alignment.  Like, because a bunch of people in Los Angeles like to watch School X's games, it somehow makes sense for that school to go to the SEC or ACC so that they can increase their "footprint."

15093
I'm hearing Nigel will transfer, that the coaching staff has decided he's not major conference quality, and they're going to help him land softly somewhere else. Anyone hearing similar?

Very sad to realize that the coaches have just now determined that one of our best players is not major conference quality.  :frown:

The profit argument is so dumb, and just goes to show how delusional your average 'tater really is.  Let's say Person A makes $1 million/yr, while person B makes $40,000/yr.  Person A spends $990,000 on a new Ferrari and a new yacht, while Person B lives like a monk and puts half of his income into an IRA.  Well, Person B would have a higher profit ($20,000) than Person A ($10,000), but that wouldn't mean that Person B is better off financially.  It just means that Person B doesn't spend as much (or make as much).  It's the same with KU and K-State.  KU makes a crap ton more money than K-State, and spends a crap ton more money than K-State.  Every single one of you would rather make $98 million/yr instead of $73 million/yr.  Quit being so damn disingenuous.  Sheesh.

If I took out a $100 billion interest-free loan and then immediately pay it back, you could say I had $100 billion in expenses that day.

Then why don't I feel any richer than the guy who took out a $10 loan and only had to pay $5 back?

I feel like oscar actually brought in decent/good players, but has ruined them with his coaching. They showed promise last year and then spent the summer with oscar and look like dogshit.  :th_twocents:

I'll wager you could find this exact comment on some Illinois message board from 3-5 years ago.

Cats will lose to one Texas team this year: Texas Southern.

15097
I'll take the "T." It is much better for K-State if ISU wins this one as it keeps us in the title hunt.

#blessed  :Woohoo:

Seriously.  I'm very pleased the "experts" consider us to be that firmly on the bubble at this point.  If we hold against the crappy teams and beat a few good ones (looking at you, ISU or KU at the OOD) we're probably in.

Don't care.  We will win the Big 12 Tourney thus giving us the auto bid and we'll make it to the sweet 16 as a 14 seed.

Thanks for asking!

"Let's change up our old slogans/traditions/uniforms to something more exciting."

Said every small-timey program no one cares about.

Not saying it hasn't benefited some programs (at least in the short term), but this is definitely a small-timey way of thinking.
