Kansas State Football / Re: 2017 Signing Day

First and foremost, he's committed and signed with K-State. That much we already knew and the football program confirmed that much with the public back in December when they Tweeted out his joining the program.

However, he's not on campus.

Even though Xavier told me he was all set to be there in January and his coaches at Pima said the same thing, even as recently as this morning, the defensive end is nowhere near Manhattan as of today.

I'm told from two separate sources that he still has some classwork to touch up on and he's now expected to arrive in the summer.

Talking to his former defensive coordinator, Pat Ryden, of Pima CC this morning, he reiterated to me once again how raw Davis is as a player. In his mind, he thought it would've been better had the defensive end played this season but he got some "bad advice" from Oregon State (back when he was committed there) to take a year off and save it for the next level. So, when you couple that statement with the news of today that he's going to arrive late (maybe deeper into July/August depending on his course load - who knows) I wouldn't be nearly as high on his expectations as some have been lately. The whole "#1 player in this class" as he's been dubbed in some publications is a big stretch for a player who hasn't played in a year.

All along I've wondered if this is another case of Aulelio Olomua because something just doesn't seem legit about Davis. Today only reaffirms that belief I've had.

the real story here is that the rivals site is up and running and hasn't crashed

and they've somehow refrained from listing every walk-on on the commitment list

Chabastin has been signed

Unless we sign Walker or Green, he's the best player in this class IMO

Chabastin was supposed to sign at 10 AM

it might be a signing ceremony with a bunch of other athletes at his school. he tweeted out "Go Cats" in his signing announcement so I'm less worried than I was.

signed.

Well, either we are not getting anymore recruits, or the fax machine broke down at 8:40

This is your first time following NSD, huh?

Ole Miss just signed this guy:

so that probably takes them out of the running for Green

Amik Robertson committed to La Tech. The CB pool has dried up.

with Barnes off the table, that leaves us with two options for another CB: amik robertson (less likely) and tancey richardson (more likely).

No way we get fields or Walker or right?

If we get Barnes I doubt either of those will commit to us.

How many defensive backs is too much?

Barnes is a CB and both of those guys are safeties. We should take about 5 or 6 DBs in this class considering how thin we are there.

Not the commitment I was expecting, but now we'll see what happens with Barnes.

Been told by people that matter that we will land fields, that's some pretty great news

Almost all of the crystal balls on 247 have flipped from us to ASU. I think that this is simply a reaction to Isaiah Stewart's commitment, but we'll find out for sure tomorrow.

Okay so this Bryan Blunt guy is legit. Looks slow though..   looks like a linebacker playing safety. Great hands, kills people on blocking for punt returns, hits harder than McDaniels. I'm wondering if grades are an issue with him

I mean, he's a JUCO freshman. I doubt we would offer him if he wasn't a qualifier and couldn't leave before getting his degree.

So here's the guys to pay attention to as we're filling out this year's recruiting class:

Evan Fields: Safety (I say 60% chance to us)
Elijah Walker: Safety (I say 60% chance to us)
Daniel Green: LB (I say 40% chance to us.)
Antoine Oliver: CB (I like our chances. let's put it at 90%)
Samuel Barnes: CB (we're getting his last visit which is huge. I say 40%)
Caleb Sampson: DT/DE (no clue)
Isaiah Stewart: Safety (rumored to be visiting. Old Nevada commit like Danny Walker)

And hopefully another surprise or two like Elijah Sullivan.  Snyder always reserves a scholarship or two in case something crazy opens up or becomes available.  Like DJamer Reed last year.  We didn't find him until after signing day.

You're forgetting Tancey Richardson (CB/ATH) and Bryan Blunt (S).

IMO, the dream class while still being realistic about the numbers that I think the staff is going for is (with back-up plans in parentheses)

ILB Daniel Green (Davion May)
DT Caleb Sampson (none)
S Evan Fields (Isaiah Stewart)
S Elijah Walker (Bryan Blunt)
CB Samuel Barnes (Tancey Richardson)
CB Amik Robertson (Antonio Oliver)

and the straight-out-of-a-fantasy-novel NSD twist is DE Chester Graves signing with us.

Of course, we have a back-up plan

oth, if your target fund holds stuff in other cap ranges and international, and you are talking about taking all of that and putting it into an sp500 fund, i would not do that.

Yeah, that is essentially the question.  The bonds held in the retirement fund i think are pointless, but the fund is diversified.  I am essentially trading more stocks/less fees for less diversification.  I'm trying to figure out if it is worth it.

IMO, proper diversification is really important. not only regarding the right mix of international/emerging/domestic and real estate/commodities, but also large/mid/small cap as well as value vs. growth. One that people don't really look at is sector diversity. Your SP500 index fund (and most likely your target fund as well) is going to be pretty heavy on industrials, financials, healthcare, and technology, and really underrepresented in sectors like basic materials, energy, telecommunications, and utilities.

Vanguard IRA question:

I have a target retirement fund.  I don't think I have admiral shares, but it says I am ineligible.  I think it is because of the bolded part below.

Quote
You have no holdings eligible for Admiralâ„¢ Shares conversion. For a holding to be eligible for Admiral Shares conversion, it cannot have any account restrictions and must meet at least one of the following conditions:

$10,000 or more in an index fund that offers Admiral Shares.
$50,000 or more in an actively managed fund that offers Admiral Shares.
$100,000 or more in certain sector funds or tax-managed funds that offer Admiral Shares.
Note: Certain retirement accounts that offer special administrative services, such as SIMPLE IRAs, 403(b)(7), individual 401(k), individual Roth 401(k), qualified profit-sharing, and money purchase pension plans, may be ineligible for Admiral Shares.

I don't think it is because of the balance in the account.  I would gain .10% on expense ratio, but it would be less diversified (but would be all stock, which it isn't right now after checking the fund).

Should I convert to save the .10% expense ratio?  Is it worth converting anyway instead of being in a target retirement fund?

Thoughts?

I guess it depends on your total investment in the fund. Do you have $5000 or $50,000 in it, because that's a big difference. With it being a Vanguard fund, I can't imagine the expense ratio is more than 0.3-0.4% anyways. If your portfolio is properly allocated, you probably have some investments elsewhere that are 0.5-1.0% that you should spend your time finding alternatives for.

Avery Showell just committed to Georgia Tech, so I doubt he'll be visiting next weekend.

All known visits for this weekend:
current commits
Bernard Goodwater
Josh Brown
Anthony Payne
Aiden Mills
Bill Kuduk
Harrison Creed
Sammy Wheeler

and Daniel Green and Danny Walker

seeing as how we are very lean at LB with Lee gone, I'm hoping we can get both of these guys. Walker is listed as both a WR and a S on different sites, but if you watch his film, he projects really well at Will. Long, rangy and fast, like Lee.

And for next weekend its all new guys:

Caleb Sampson DT
Avery Showell ??
Antonio Oliver CB
Tancey Richardson DB of some flavor
Bryan Blunt S

Showell's film is really interesting - most of it is him at WR, but I think he's projected at S. Bryan Blunt is the wildcard here - his film is really good. Like, make you forget Elijah Walker good. I mean, 8 int this year as a RS FR on the NJCAA national champs? I'll take that.
