Do they cancel school in Iowa for this event or just stream it over the PA system during class?

Ames and Des Moines public schools are traditionally put of school the Friday before spring break which is always the first week of the NCAA tournament, so the Friday of the conference tournament is a day off. It's been this way all six years I've lived here.

Heh.  I was half joking about that when I asked.  Makes sense.

Penny Hardaway as HC of Memphis with Larry Brown as assistant??   :surprised:

Quote
Hardaway, who played for the Tigers from 1991 to '93 before becoming a four-time NBA All-Star, currently coaches East High School (Memphis, Tenn.) and runs the Team Penny AAU program on the Nike EYBL circuit. He coaches ESPN 60 No. 1 junior James Wiseman at East, as well as five-star junior Chandler Lawson (No. 26). Five-star junior D.J. Jeffries (No. 17) also plays for Team Penny.

Counting tier wins is a stupid and lazy way to do this.

That may be, but when I look at it I try to use the same criteria as the committee to see where we are compared to the field. Doesn't matter if I like it or not.

the 40 spot difference in RPI has nothing to do with quad/tier/away records. TCU has 12 top 100 wins, KSU has 9. TCU's SOS is #7, KSU's is #77.

however, based on the quad/tier/away records, there is no way they should be 4 seeds better. those are VERY similar resumes, as far as the seeding procedure is concerned.
the committee must factor NCSOS stronger than we all think (TCU 42, KSU 326)

Yes they are, and that is the criteria the committee is talking about.

As to point 2, we don't know that for sure, but we do know that the bracketologists do.

Yeah, it's no coincidence that Gene has highlighted the non con as a needed improvement going forward.

His stance isn't surprising at all.  He has never held conservative views, other than when it's been politically convenient.  He's been very open about his brand of populist nationalism.

Sure, the "American first, rah rah" mantra has been there from the get go, but it doesn't make these economic ideas any less stupid.

The idea of sharing a bathroom was initially alarming, but the pictures of the house looked nice and Ms. Shiver wanted to meet new friends. For $2,200 a month, she now rents a Starcity room with a queen-size bed, a bedside table and a chair.

Wade isn't leaving. He's not even on any mock boards at this point.

Those mocks haven't caught up yet. I have read a couple of scouting reports that have him as a second rounder. WHEN he submits his name he's going to get, at least, a second round grade, unless he gets hurt. If he continues to play, the way he has, his stock is going to shoot up. He hasn't played in games heavily scouted, there aren't many NBA prospects in conference this year.

How much could a potential great run (Sweet 16) led by Wade bump him in the draft? Does a run like that help a guy much? I honestly don't know, I don't follow the NBA or the draft closely.

I think it certainly does help, though to what degree I'm not sure.  More than anything I think it puts a spotlight on certain guys that maybe haven't had much attention.  A guy like Dean could probably benefit quite a bit from a nice run.

Here's a pretty good article with recent examples and thoughts from a couple of scouts.

Cheaper materials benefit everyone except for those producing them.  In this case, an ever-shrinking steel industry that has suffered largely due to technological advances more than anything else.  It seems pretty stupid to potentially inflict damage upon the overall economy in order to prop up a dying industry.

I am by no means a liberal or Democrat.  But I think it's important to call out Trump (or any president) when he proposes/says stupid crap.

Oh I really need to see it now.

Oh and also a graphic depiction of the lead actress masturbating in a bathtub to an egg timer - I think twice. You guys will love it.

Not quite sure how I feel about Paddington's adoptive mother masturbating with a kitchen utensil.

We’ve been the 4th best program in the conference since his arrival.  It’s not exactly fireable.

Valid point.  The only real hangup for him has been the lack of tournament success.  Throw in a few tournament wins and there really isn't a lot to complain about other than his weirdness.

Consider yourselves lucky, boys!

“With what’s going on in the world of college basketball I couldn’t be more proud of oscar and his coaches and these kids,” Taylor said. “They do everything you want them to do, both on the court and off the court. To have somebody like that, to have a program like that, we are pretty lucky.”

So now the only question for the future is what year oscar retires and Steve comes in to take over? Right?

Yep!  That, and what other marquee matchups in the non-con we'll be treated to.

Nebraska lost, they are NIT bound.

Good grief the Big Ten is atrocious.  Tied for 4th in the conference at 13-5 and headed to the NIT.

Rustin is joining the Athletic. Anyone here have a subscription? I think I'm going to join

It is interesting, because he'll still be covering the Royals. They must be doing coverage for each team now?

Yep.  Launches March 5.  Running a promotion right now for 25% off a year subscription.

Does signing up under KC get access to all content, or only KC stuff?

Looks like you get all of the content.  I think it's just divided so you can follow more easily.

Crazy thing is that if it had happened a block down the road in an apartment building off campus it wouldn't be news.

Play-in game vs Nebraska with the winner playing Creighton.  So much on the line in that scenario.

Huskers beat oscar for their first ever Tourney win.  Then Foster stomps the Huskers and carries Creighton to a Natty and is also named tournament MVP.

It is extremely unlikely that Duda will be part of our long-term rebuild. I would be surprised if he's even part of next year's team.  So what's the point in signing him?  A living piece of nostalgia from our Series?  Just seems pretty pointless.

They want to sell as many tickets as possible while not hurting themselves long-term.

Maybe so.  But, I just don't see Lucas Duda moving significantly more tickets for a rebuilding franchise that should be sitting at the bottom of the league all year.  Who knows, maybe he'll smash Moose's record by August and everyone will flock to the stadium for a historic September.

The man is delusional on economic policy.  Trade deficits are not a bad thing for wealthy countries.

But at least we're putting the squeeze on all those damned foreign car manufacturers!

This thing is getting pretty muddy.  SI and 247 are claiming sources saying the story from Schlabach is inaccurate, but ESPN is doubling down it.

Quote
As Arizona coach Sean Miller forcibly professed his innocence on Thursday in a statement that affirmed his status with the team, a source familiar with the college hoops corruption investigation confirmed with SI that the details of a wiretapped phone call involving Miller were inaccurately reported in a story by ESPN that said Miller “discussed paying $100,000 to ensure star freshman Deandre Ayton signed with the Wildcats.”

According to the source, relevant FBI wiretaps in the investigation did not begin until 2017—months after five-star recruit Deandre Ayton had already committed to Arizona in Sept. 2016. This account is consistent with reporting by Evan Daniels of 247Sports. The recruitment of Ayton, therefore, would have not been at issue in an intercepted phone call that occurred in 2017. To that end, the source told SI what Miller clarified for the first time Thursday: Ayton is not the player on whose behalf former ASM Sports employee Christian Dawkins allegedly sought a payment from Miller, and Miller never pursued paying or made any payments to a recruit associated with Dawkins.

The Arizona-ESPN saga is continuing to heat up, and shortly after Arizona’s Sean Miller vehemently castigated ESPN’s reporting, the Worldwide Leader doubled down on its initial scoop that Miller had knowingly violated NCAA rules.
