Kansas State Football / ADRIAN MARTINEZ TO END BOWL GAME VIRGINITY
« on: October 29, 2022, 06:03:40 PM »
KSU advanced to 6-2 today, ensuring that we will get a bowl bid and give Adrian the first bowl game experience of his career.

Meanwhile, Nebraska is 3-5 with 4 games remaining and seems unlikely to win any of them, let alone 3.

Thus it was truly wise of Adrian to leave the Nebraska Cornhuskers in order to experience winning at football.

Expectations are dangerous, so let's make some!

I think I'd like to see us finish as the "best team in the bottom half of the league."  I don't think that's too much to ask, is it?

The New Joe Montgomery Birther Pit / Am I too anti-fascist?
« on: October 04, 2022, 06:24:12 PM »
I am pretty darn anti-fascist.

What I am wondering is if I am the equivalent of the notoriously overly-anti-communist people of the Red Scare?  I don’t mean the ones who used it to eliminate rivals, I mean the noobs on the street that actually believed that communism was so bad that they gladly sent American troops off to die on another continent.

I’d too would be willing to make others go sacrifice to stop fascism.  Maybe I am just as bad as Joe Six-Pack during the Red Scare rooting for them to stick it to the Reds?

Or am I the right amount of anti-fascist and maybe they were the right amount of anti-communist?

It’s very difficult to find 4 more wins on the schedule if Adrian Martinez is our quarterback.  It would seem that in order to help him get to his very first bowl game, we must make him watch football instead of play football.

I’m not a Catholic, but I have a great deal of respect for their current Pope. Seems like a good dude, especially relative to many of the rascals who have held that post over the years.

From what I gather, he has frustrated some of the conservatives who seem to be selective about when they choose to adhere to “because the pope said so.”

Looks like he is stacking the court so that the next boss is same as the old boss.

Establishment Liberal here...just want to say a few things that I agree with that are typically positions of the "other party."

I am FOR a very strong defense and economic health for "big business" and "wall street."  I don't like either of those things, but I accept that they are necessary in the violent world that we live in.

I will also stand right beside (metaphorically of course) those who work to guarantee the access to shotguns and deer rifles, and I cannot imagine ever changing my mind on that.  You can have my over/under 12 gauge when you pry it from my cold dead fingers.

I want nuke power.  I want crap tons of nuke power.  I don't want to be able to swing a dead cat without hitting a nuke power plant.

I am FOR drastically limiting immigration.

How about a thread where we give credit to someone on the "other side" of the political spectrum, in a position of power or influence, that we agree with.

I liked some of the stuff Dick Cheny's daughter has said lately.  Made me really think I might be able to compromise more with the "other side" if there were more folks like her.

Obviously this will be a seldom trafficked thread.

The New Joe Montgomery Birther Pit / I think my kid is Alex P. Keaton

So family took this Pew Research poll that attempts to place you in a political ideology bucket, and my wife and daughter are like off the charts "Progressive Left," and I am an "Establishment Liberal."  My 14 year old so, however, is a "Committed Conservative."  He's a computer building, crypto mining, rocket enthusiast and modeler, math guy, agnostic, and Elon Musk lover....so basically a STEM version of a Koch brother.

This is very difficult for his former social worker mother and debate team social justice elder sister to accept.  Good news is that he is a steadfast never-trump, and has a healthy disdain for the faith and flag crew. My son and I cool tho, and agreed on pro-business, strong defense, but he's more "small government" than me. I attribute this to him not having had as many sinister employers and clients as I have had.  I want the SEC tight on Elon's ass, and my son isn't so sure about that.

Essentially Flyertalk / Euro Raves, Sex, and Monkey Pox Thread

Heads up, Study Abroad Students, may want to ease back on post-rave sex this summer.

Quote
Dr. David Heymann, who formerly headed WHO’s emergencies department, told The Associated Press that the leading theory to explain the spread of the disease was sexual transmission among men at raves held in Spain and Belgium. Monkeypox has not previously triggered widespread outbreaks beyond Africa, where it is endemic in animals.

Walmart has a new fitness brand built around a lesbian married couple. Who would have imagined 20 years ago that the favorite shopping destination of lower income whites would be featuring married gay couple?  GAY!  GAY MARRIED!  Heck, 10 years ago this would have been big news.

Just think what it will be like in another decade or two?  Trans?  No big deal.  Heck, the world is going to be very, very different, isn't it!

I don’t even know who our next coach is, but it’s not that rough ridin' POS oscar Weber, so I love him.

I am going to support our new coach’s rough ridin' face off of his head!  I rough ridin' love you new KSU basketball coach and I don’t care who knows it!!!!

Kansas State Football / We beat the absolute crap out of LSU and the SEC
« on: January 05, 2022, 12:49:36 PM »
Feels so good to have confirmed that we are superior to LSU. What an ass kicking we gave them.

I can only assume we will add many SEC victims to this thread in future years.

Very good deal for KC area Cerner cats who either work directly on their software product (building it or implementing it), but I'd be freshening up my resume if I were a Cerner back office cat.

This thread is for questions and discussion about recovery (from anything). My name is Pete and I am a grateful recovering alcoholic, and I haven't a had drink since March 8, 2015.  My personal flavor of recovery is a 12 step program about alcohol. Drugs, gambling, sex, porn, etc. weren't/aren't part of my story or struggle, just alcohol.

There were two things that I THOUGHT that I knew to be fact, which I was dead wrong about, and kept me "out there" drinking a lot longer than I had to.

First, I thought that I had to hit a "bottom" like they talked about on the after school specials, where you lose absolutely everything and all your family and friends, before you could attempt to get better.  Everyone's "bottom" is different.  Mine was living with suicidal thoughts (obsession really) for several years (absolute living hell) with soul crushing anxiety and depression.  I still had a job, had a 401K, had kids getting good grades, etc...but I was headed for a bullet to the brain.

That brings me to the Second thing I thought was a fact, which I was wrong about.  That was that I believed to the core of my soul that I would never experience pleasure or have fun again if I quit drinking.  Every single moment in my life where I could recall being at ease or having a sense of comfort, included alcohol, since probably puberty.  Drinking seemed like the "normal" life, and not drinking seemed like something that just had to be endured.  So, the idea of letting go of my medicine for life seemed like a last resort....I basically decided to give it a shot before I killed myself.  I figured, "I owe it to my kids to try this before I kill myself."  I'm happy to report that I no longer want to kill myself, and even better than that, I actually enjoy my life.  Here's the thing though...you don't get to know HOW/WHAT/WHY of how you will come to have a meaningful and fulfilling life in recovery, but if you work a program, it will materialize.  For me, and for every person in recovery I have ever spoken with (thousands of people), it was/is impossible to predict how you will feel and what your life will be like.

Kansas State Football / WHAT WE ARE HEARING ABOUT KLEINMAN TO NOTRE DAME
« on: November 29, 2021, 07:27:46 PM »
We have attempted to reach out to representatives of Chris Kleinman to confirm rumors that Kleinman will be the next coach at Notre Dame, but things have gone very quiet.  We will report more as we learn more.

Kansas State Football / Rest of the way cats prospectusamundos 2021
« on: November 01, 2021, 07:19:12 AM »
What I delight to wake up on a Monday morning late midway through the college football season and see our cats above the bottom half of the conference rankings.  I thank our forefathers who named this great state Kansas, instead of Zansas. What foresight!

My prediction is that we finish 2-2 and cement our standing as the best fo the worst, and qualify for one of the consumer financial services or snack foods bowls.

Which tree is your favorite tree, right now at this moment?  And, I don't mean which god damn variety of tree. Which exact rough ridin' tree, right now at this exact moment, is your favorite?  Right now, I like the tippy tops of some Ash trees lining Lamar at 107th street.  Ash are not usually very good Autumn color tress, but they are the first to fire this rough ridin' thing up and start changing their colors in the fall.  Well anyway, when the early morning or late evening sun hits the top of these rascals, it's a little red tint that looks tip top indeed.

HOWEVER, my favorite is sure to change many times over the coming weeks.

The point here, crap bag mom-basement-dwelling goEMAW posters, is that we need to be mindful about the here and now and the undisputed number one way to do that during the Autumnal season is to always be on the lookout for mothering rough ridin' fabulous trees, and always have an opinion about which one is the baddest mother rough rider of all. go cats.

What's up guys, just a great thread here to discuss what most normal humans on this planet do and like.  Just a lot of great fellowship between those of us blessed enough to have avoided Elephantiasis of the limbs and torso and neck.

Kansas State Football / Who should we get to endorse gE?
« on: June 09, 2021, 02:49:31 PM »
Dennis Dodd's article today reminded me that endorsement deals will be permissible for players in 5 states within 3 weeks.  Those are Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and New Mexico.  I think we should go after the Bama punter.  I don't know who that person is, but they would make a wonderful paid spokesperson for gE, IMO.

As everyone knows and accepts, Baylor is now the undisputed Lord of Big 12 basketball, due to holding the most recent national championship.  Incidentally, Baylor is also the Lords of Big 12 Women's basketball for the same reason.

As the new undisputed Lord of Big 12 basketball, I expect a LOT of changes.  An eventual move of the Big 12 tournament to a location closer to the new Lords, and I expect to see a sharp drop off in KU wins and fan attendance.  These changes will not be easy for many to accept, but accept they must.  There is no choice.  These are just facts.

Someone making your blood boil and and making you feel a little crazy?  It happens.  Just remember that there is a feature on this forum where you can automatically ignore the content of users posts...the words in their posts stay hidden unless you click on a "show me the post" link.  You'll still see the words from their posts if others quote them, however.

Here's how to use the "ignore" feature.

Go to "Profile" at the top of the screen.  Then choose "Modify Profile."  Then choose "Edit Ignore List."  Enter the username you want to ignore in the "Member" box at the bottom and click the "Add" button.  That users will then appear in your list of users being ignored.  You can remove someone from your ignore list from the same page.

Rather than nurturing a resentment, sometimes it's best to just take a little time off to cool down.  I think it was Michael Bishop who had the wise advice that "if you continue a resentment of another person, you are the one taking the poison and hoping it hurts the person you resent."

Kansas State Football / The 2020 Big 12 Covid Season :excited:
« on: August 12, 2020, 08:17:28 AM »
This is a football thread about the upcoming Covid season.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/big-12-proceeding-toward-playing-2020-college-football-season-despite-big-ten-pac-12-cancellations/

With a 9 game conference season, what will it take to win this league?  Will 7 wins do it this year?  Also, who benefits most from the reduced practice schedule?  Is there a "system" or "style" that will have an edge?

If the Cats are again the loan "run heavy" team this year, and practices are muted as compared to prior years, does our physical offensive approach help us?
