Hell and no on Morales. Older, lower projected WAR and more expensive.

Pics? I'm headed to the Honda Center shortly to see if we can steal one on the road. Ducks have been ridiculously tough at home though.

In terms of offensive value, I like to look at three numbers. OPS, OBP and WAR. Let's take a quick look at the last three years of Infante and Phillips, as well as Bonifacio and Getz just for shits and gigs.

OPS (2011, 2012, 2013)
Infante    .696 .719 .795
Phillips     .810 .750 .706
Bonifacio  .753 .645 .625
Getz        .600 .672 .561

OBP
Infante    .315 .300 .345
Phillips     .353 .321 .310
Bonifacio .360 .330 .295
Getz       .313 .312 .288

WAR
Infante     2.4 2.9 3.1
Phillips      5.6 3.7 2.6
Bonifacio   2.8 0.4 0.6
Getz         0.6 0.3 -0.1

As stated before, Phillips is consistently down in each category. This, by no means, pegs him as a terrible player. But I would be seriously concerned about his production next year and any following years.

Infante has shown steady improvement capped off with what is his best year since being an all star in 2010. Will he have a career year next year? Probability says no but it looks a lot more promising than Phillips. I'd be very content with 3.0 WAR guy.

I don't think anyone is saying that Bonifacio is better than either Infante or Phillips but it's interesting to match them up with them. He is a serviceable utility guy that can fill in on days off and provide depth for inevitable injuries.

Lol @ Getz. How he got so many AB's is just another one of Dayton's unsolved mysterys.

Overall, Infante is a better get. He's got the numbers to back it up, comes at a 30% discount comparatively, and is a year younger. Am I high fiving over four years? Not exactly. But I think the Royals realized after they lost Beltran that they needed to overpay/overextend a bit in order to compete for these types of player. I'll be the first to credit Dayton so far this offseason. He's made some decent moves. My only fear is now that we're over budget, they'll make a cost cutting move that takes us two steps back.

constant fear that i look like an idiot, but keep getting great feedback. so pretty awesome, apparently.

This. There are times at the end of the day I'm like, "Man, that was kind of rough" and then the boss comes in, looks at my numbers and high fives me. So, cool, i guess.

Went to a Mexican restaurant/bar in Newport Beach with a co-worker for happy hour. We sit at the bar, order a drink and hear a guy being pretty loud and obnoxious behind us. Low and behold it's Dennis Rodman who is pretty crap-canned. Dude is pretty much yelling everything he says and then laughing up a storm. The staff doesn't really know what to do since he's fairly out of control but he's buying a ton of booze and he's Dennis Rodman. There are kids eating with their families and he's cussing like crazy. A little awkward for everyone. After about and hour, he gets up, his wife (or gf or whatever) pays the tab and they take off. Very weird encounter but I wouldn't have expected anything less.

Bullpen should be fine. We always seem to remember the blown saves much more clearly than the 1-2-3 innings. This bullpen has blown 3 saves in 13 opportunities. 77% puts us T-9th in MLB. Not completely dominant by any means but a solid number. League average is 68%. The most impressive stat to me is our bullpen holds the opposition to a .288 OBP. They just don't normally let many guys on base which is what they need to do. Would it really be worth giving up a prospect and taking on salary to slightly improve that number? I think most would agree we could use greater improvement elsewhere.

Not sure the Bubba hate here. When drafted, there was a big understanding that he was a very raw player and that while he played well for a crappy HS KS team, he wasn't gonna become an immediate player. He was drafted highly on potential which is always a gamble. The fact that he fell to 5th overall was a bit of a shock and instead of picking up a college arm (which is what the Royals said they'd likely draft first), they opted for the best player on the board. And to the vast majority of experts, this was the right move. Add that to the fact that he's Kansas born and bred, and our expectations for him are even higher. Am I a bit disappointed in his progress thus far? Definitely. But at 20 years old, I
am firmly in the wait and see department. Keep in mind Alex Gordon (2nd overall) was labeled a pretty big disappointment until two years ago (age 27). I'll give him two more years of development and if he's not at least in AAA then I'll start to grumble. We can all look back at a draft and say 'OMG I can't believe the Jets took Chad Pennington over Tom Brady. What idoits.' Unfortunately, that's just how it works sometimes.

The company I work for just recently held their company golf tournament for all the bigwigs. While I'm nowhere near the bigwig level of this company, the regional vice president remembered during my interview that I talked about playing in amateur tournaments during college. He called up my boss and told him that I needed that day off and that I would be playing on his team. Carried the team (me, him and some grossly huge fat guy who could barely swing) and brought home the hardware. Currently up for a promotion :gocho:

This dude memorized the patterns of the game board on Press Your Luck and won a bunch of money.

Spent a lot of time reading about this dude a while ago. Very odd guy. They did a documentary on him if you have some time to kill.

« on: March 03, 2013, 01:31:29 PM »
I haven't used Craigslist but I did use roommates.com and it was pretty easy. I had to move halfway across the country and didn't have any time to go apartment searching. You can search by location (obviously), price, # of roommates, etc. and go from there. There are pictures of the apartments, roommates and whatnot so you can see what you're getting into. It costs something like $20 to sign up but it was worth it for me in a time crunch. I've lived with the roommate I found on there for three years now and we've become very good friends. A friend of mine has also used it twice and it's worked out just fine. Just seemed a little less sketchy than Craigslist.

Freak bounce off the boards on that first Anaheim goal. Then an early deflection that Griess ultimately should've had. Tough breaks but that's the way it goes. Back to HP for a battle with the Blackhawks. Should be another good one.

Heading to The Pond tonight to catch the Sharks in town against Anaheim. Should be a good one, as we barely escaped with a win in San Jose.

That was such a soft goal Hiller let in when San Jose tied it

Agreed. One of those breaks you catch when you're hot.

Just another year that it feels great to be a Sharks fan. 4-0 and only getting better. When we actually start passing better, we'll be hard to beat. Go Sharks.

Now 5-0. Marleau and Thornton are absolutely on fire. Will probably take a lot of flack from the "you've never won anything" haters but it does feel good. Real good.

Essentially Flyertalk / Re: Jail
« on: January 27, 2013, 10:24:06 PM »
I have an employee who did 8 months in the OC prison. Although it depends on where you are, he shared a few of his stories. These may or may not be true and/or exaggerated...

1. Depending on your race, you will be "beat in". The length of the beating depends on what race you are. The first letter of your race is how many seconds you get beaten. Black= 2 seconds, Mexican= 13 seconds, White=23 seconds. He was white so he got the worst of it.

2. If you do something that hurts the population, you will get your ass kicked. This is probably fairly obvious. He said he accidentally removed some dumbbells from the rec room to another part of a prison which was a no-no. The guards took them away from everyone as a punishment and, in return, he got his ass kicked.

3. If you do something that someone who's part of a gang doesn't like, you can be "greenlit". That means you are fair game for anyone in that gang to attack. While this guy never got greenlit, it was always a fear of his because an attack could be when you least expected and you'd be constantly paranoid.

4. Inmates know where cameras are and aren't. While this may be another fairly obvious one, watch where you go. They know where they can get you and where they'll be caught on camera. In general, the guards don't really care so if there's no hard, video evidence, it's hard to prosecute them.

Good luck and godspeed.
