Maes:  I've never understood why people don't like it.  It always made me happy though 'cause 99% of the people that don't like Maes are the type of people I would never wanna hang out with anyways.

Lol. So true. This also applies to RAB, mostly on weeknights. So Long used to be like that, but more and more the fratters are taking that place over.

I really appreciate this bit, but it tells us nothing.  Frank could be leaving on Mississippi steamboat to Miami tomorrow and he wouldn't tell Jon anything.  I hope he doesn't tell Jon anything he doesn't want put on blast, and I think Frank is smart enough to know that.

Yeah, I agree. I just figure after a rare opportunity like that I HAD to share it.

They were sitting at a table next to me in Bluestem today. They didn't formally meet, but HCFM came to get coffee and Wefald yelled at him as he was leaving, and they started talking about things really quietly. As you can imagine, I did everything I could to not act like I was trying to listen to the conversation. I couldn't hear everything since they weren't right next to me, but I heard a couple things.

It sounds like Frank wants to sit down and discuss the contract with Currie, not just have Currie write something up for him to sign. But I specifically heard him say "I trust the people here" and "Where else would I want to be?"

Now my question to people who know more about his relationship with Wefald, would HCFM be honest with him, or BS him about wanting to stay?

What did Frank order?  Seems like a guy that doesn't need much caffeine to get going in the morning.

Large coffee. He started telling me once that he sometimes likes a lot of sugar and cream in his coffee, and sometimes he likes it black. I told him I usually put two shots of espresso in mine and he called me crazy. HCFM calling me crazy is easily the best accomplishment of my life.

I have no idea what kind of pull Weefer has anymore, so I have to assume none.  With that said, why would he BS a guy who can't do anything for him?

Just from your small snipit of eavesdropping (BTW, good work) it sounds like Currie is being a real prick about this.

This. I don't know why he would have pull either, but I assume HCFM would rather just not answer questions than BS him.

Just got back from there. Between Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf there's an equivalent of an Italytown. Great food at any one of these places, but I highly recommend Michelangelo's. Any cafe in that area is great, too.

Yeah, but what happened after we lost Beasley? Also, look at UNC right now. It's great for one year to have a OnD player, but from day 1 Frank has said he wanted to build a program. OnD players don't build programs, unless you can get them every year. I doubt we have the ability to get them every year at this point. Unless we do, he just takes up experience from someone who will be playing the next year.

My question is this: If we lose to UK by a small margin, how far do we drop? Would we lose a 2 seed if we win out except for at UK and if we play them in the Big XII championships game?

Last time we lost a close game to KU what happened?

Yeah, but we won at Baylor the same week. Beating Iowa St. at home just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Cuse would not destroy us.  Hard to argue that ANY team is hard pressed to beat us if Dennis is hittin like he has been and if Jake is hittin like he was earlier in the year.  If they aren't, yes they would kill us.

Exactly. But Dennnnnis and Jake only have one tournament win under their belt. How crazy are their nerves going to be going throughout the tournament? Granted the first game will help out a lot. But still, I don't see them hitting shots as comfortably throughout the tournament as they have been against teams like NU and OU. Neither of them made a 3 against Tejas, and Dennnnis only made one against UK. Teams with little experience in the tournament rarely do well in it.

I've decided to blindly assume Cosh is the next Chase Daniel (doosh face and all) and put all of my faith into him.  Don't let me down, Cosh!

Agreed. Cosh for Heisman!

I don't like either of those possibilities. Cuse would destroy us.

Agreed. I like our chances if Purdue is the #1 in our region.

IMO, Frank doesn't want a one and done player. Unless he thinks he has a chance of staying, I doubt he goes after him. Like I said, this is totally IMO, and I have no evidence for this.

As much as I love it, we shouldn't be ranked ahead of all of the Big East teams. Or maybe the East Coast bias is so overwhelming that it's getting to me, too. Either way, we should be ranked in front of Purdue. They haven't impressed me yet.

I wouldn't be surprised if neither made it:

Aldrich
Anderson
James
Brackins
Collins
Dunn/Carter (similar to Clem/Pull)

Of the 2, I think the edge would go to Clemente, because he's been doing better in conference.  There is never a given that the 2nd place team has someone on first team all-conference.

No, I know it's not a given. I just think there's a lot of politics that go into it (obviously), such as making sure the 2nd place team gets someone one the all conference team.

I think this game has a great chance of going down to the wire again. And when it does, KU is going to unconsciously relax, knowing they won last time (I'm a psych major, so I tend to overanalyze this aspect of the game. Forgive me). K-State will step up, knowing we didn't win last time. I think it's 50/50 at this point, and wouldn't be totally surprised if we won. Just overly ecstatic.

If this game goes down to the wire then we're in a shitty situation.

Yeah, I suppose you're right. Not only does KU have more close games, and therefore experience in winning close games, but it's at their house. I keep overlooking the location of the game, probably to ease my anxiety.

I'm a hopeless romantic, and it carries over to my love of Kansas State athletics.

If we get 2nd in the Big XII, one of these guys will HAVE to be on the all-conference team. I think it will depend on whoever has a big game in Lawrence.

Also, Pullen has the intangible leadership quality as well, perhaps more so than Denis, so they both get points for that.

What do you base this off of?

Mostly off of what I saw pre-Big XII play, so it may have changed. But he's the one who gets after players when the games not going. Yes, Denis is yelling at everyone when he's bringing the ball down and everyone responds well, but walking over to a TO and during the TO, Pullen talks to the players and Frank to get them calmed down or pumped up. IMO, a leader of a team should NOT get a technical called on them.

I don't see Samuels starting. We already tried that this year. He makes a bigger impact on the game coming from the bench, plus I'm not sure how long Samuels would play on a game to game basis if he started due to the difficulty he has staying out of foul trouble. Also, if Samuels starts at the 4 and kelly is at the 5 we have a SMALL team, 6' 7" and 6' 8" and skinny at the 4-5. Dominique will NEVER start at the 2. We would have the nations worst ball handling starting 5 period. All you'd have to do is press us and we'd turn it over every other trip down the court. I think pullen, mcgruder, sutton, kelly, asprilla is the most likely combo, but I think you could see pullen stay at the 2 and either russell or more likely irving at the 1. I've heard quite a few rumblings of Asprilla being an NBA prospect, not to mention he averaged 14 and 9 as a freshman. Like a guy posted earlier, if Colon starts now, then a much better Asprilla starts next year.

I agree. However, I haven't seen Irving doing a great job as the 1. I just don't know any other option besides Russel, and I haven't seen him play a significant amount of time in a while.

Alright, I'm game.

I agree, with what you said being the only reason i could see pullen moving to the 1 because if he is at the 2 then irving or russell have to be there. So I see the most likely combo being 1=pullen, 2=mac.

Also, JamSam LOVES coming off the bench. I can't imagine he wants to start next year. And since Frank seems to take players' opinions into account, I don't think he'll force him to start. I'm with sys. I think that Frank wants a true big at the 5. Unless JHR gains 20-30 before next season, I think Asprilla will be starting.

I don't know if it's THAT obvious. Irving seems to play it more than him, though I don't think he's proven himself yet. Especially in Big XII play, it seems like Pullen has barely played the 1 at all.

Any predictions on who will start for us next year? I'm thinking Asprilla, Kelly, Sutton and Pullen, but who replaces Denis? Does Pullen move to the 1 and we put McGruder as the 2? Or start Russel as the 1?
