public libraries are amazing. sadly, i don't think modern america would create them if they did not already exist.
Why would they? If you have access to the internet you can learn anything, literally anything. Probably 90% of public libraries are visited only by old people who don’t know how to navigate the internet. The next 8% are poor people who didn’t have access to enough education. The other 2% are kids or grandkids of old people and poor people.
I'm constantly in posession of copyrighted materials from online libraries. I wouldn't have access to all of this material if not for the library. And certainly not legally. I know that there are many like me because I can see the number of copies available.
