Alabama's Nick Saban is considered by some to be the "hardest working man" in the recruiting biz. The postmaster of Tuscaloosa, Ala., might be next after Nick. Alabama made national headlines when it mailed 105 recruiting letters in a day to a running back from Atlanta this week, Norcross High School junior Alvin Kamara. Usually, Saban puts stamps on only about 4-6 letters per day to Kamara. "Yeah, I got home and they were failing out of my mailbox," Kamara said. "It was crazy but I liked it." It was yet another creative and innovative recruiting tactic by Saban, who finished with the nation's No. 1 recruiting class for 2012 earlier this month.

This is fantastic.  I don't expect Bill to do something like this, however, how hard is it to recognize that sometimes kids enjoy overwhelming attention.  Follow up Q: how hard is it to think of ways to provide that attention?  Saban's letter idea was original(to me at least) but still very simplistic.

And yet you'd think if there was one thing this staff could do well in recruiting it would be mailing letters

No more jucos plz. Someone name me the last juco Baller that worked out for us. tia.

depends how far back you want to go.  wooly had several that worked out.  course, he threw a lot of numbers at it. reid, dejesus, pasco, massey, williams (justin), wright, atchison, seibrant, ellis, hart...there was a few winners in there.

pretty incredible to go from not being able to land anything and having Jeff Schwinn behind Ell during the DOD to likely having to ask several of our QB commits to switch positions after they come in.

my best guess is that whats happening in the NFL with cam and tebow (and likely RGIII) is opening kids eyes to system's like ours...showing its viable for moving on to the next level.

the title of this thread has officially become completely irrelevant

Bigs were a push. Used scrubs to put Jamar in foul trouble and subsequently our offense. This game was make or break on our guards (hindsight 20/20ish).

most of our games are make or break from the guards.  which is why we are having a down year...too much break.

that was a fun game to watch until the end, probably one of the funnest games all season to watch. good game hawks.

the 2nd half yes.  the first was ugly as sin.

Angel is by far the best we've got.

The hard part is wrapping your mind around it.

a quick glance at our guard recruiting the past several years makes it easier

JO was pretty good tonight, would have been even better if the guards would have dumped to him for more DOBS

Or if frank wouldn't pull him and not put him back in for forever.

JO played 26 minutes, Jamar was the only big who played more.  Frankly all of the bigs played well.  Not sure how anyone could have an issue with the distribution of minutes for the bigs.

frank pulled him after he made several great plays in a row at the start of the 2nd and it seemed forever till he got back out there.  it was probably more about the timing than the total minutes for me.

Couple of units on ku ml -175.  Free money.   :gocho:

Also considering a Kstate first half play.

Good thing I stayed away from the 1st half line.  Uuuuggly. Otherwise cash that moneyline! Weeeeeeeeee.

Freshmen point guards.
When was the last time KU started a freshman at point? Miles, I'd guess.
Recruiting misses at guard is killing us. Really wish we had a shooting guard coming in.

A million times this.  Misses and running guys off the last few years have led to us having to count on a freshman pg. Its prob going to cost us the tourney.

Before that three by taylor was it not over and back?

No, didn't have control.

Thanks wasn't sure. Thought he just had to touch it.

Lead at half.  Build to double digits with ten to go then piss it away.  Same old formula.

Disapointed this has sat untouched for so long.  I realize it is in support of ku cancer research but real emawers should be able to look past this cheap ploy. Maybe paint ku=cancer?  :dunno: Im not real creative but something should have been done by now.

I'm so sick of "the examples" like Jordy Nelson and Aqib Talib, those are the rough ridin' exceptions. We suck at football and we definitely suck at recruiting. Eff moneyball analogies, they're Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!). We're not working with a salary cup. :DroppedMic: :UntuckingMyFuckingShirt:  :shakesfist:

we suck at "football recruiting", not at "football".  It's your ignorance of this very detail that illustrates your ignorance for considering the discussion in this post.

I now suggest you open the nearest window and yell at the top of your lungs.  Come back when you feel better.

I rough ridin' love the Manhatter.  He's one the things that keeps my EMAW burning.

We are blessed to have him, and you rough ridin' retards need to give some respect.

agreed.  he has really brought this board back from the arkansas mess.

i sorta agree with the OP, but to a point.  I don't think we'll great in that we win a conf reg season title because it takes frank too long into the season to get his teams playing well and consistently.  I could see some big 12 tournament wins and some more ncaa successes down the road though.  this regular season turmoil is self imposed because of the roster turnover each year.  when you only have 3 or 4 scholarship upperclassmen on your team because you run off so many guys each season this is what you end up till about this time of the yr when stuff starts clicking.  least thats been the track record.

to add to that the recruiting at the guard position has been a total failure the last 2 seasons.  other than angel (who can't stay on the floor) we basically have 2 star or unrated guys playing there and its killing us.  thats all on frank.  kudos to him though if he's able to get this mess into the tournament this season, despite the self imposed problems.
