Duke, Kansas State, Purdue, Syracuse

This is the poll on the College basketball homepage. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/

I don't really think we deserve a #3 ranking right now, but hey, it's fun to even be on this poll.

Pretty sure I watched this when it first showed up on hulu.

I don't remember anything about it.

Carry on.

I was watching the Utah state and WSU game on ESPN 2. Sounded very elite. I was actually really impressed with how loud and crazy their student section was.

Our two ESPN college basketball panelists this week, Jay Bilas and Fran Fraschilla, agree that the Big 12 and Big East are hands-down the best leagues going this season.

Fran: "There’s no question in my mind the Big 12 is one of the two best conferences. I don’t know if I’m willing to say it’s better than the Big East top top to bottom, but the argument can be made that it shouldn’t take a back seat to the Big East or any league in college basketball this year. The strength in the Big 12 is in its overall depth, more so than in any year I can remember."

Jay: "The Big East and the Big 12 are the two best leagues."

OK, settled. But, once we get to the NCAA Tournament, does the Big 12, with quality teams from top-to-bottom, have more power teams than the Big East that can get to the Final Four?

Jay: "Kansas State could do it. If Texas gets it’s act together offensively I think they could do it. I don’t think there are any great teams in the league. I think Kansas is the closest thing. There aren’t any great teams nationally. This year is a lot like 2006 in my judgment, nobody’s great and Kansas could be and they’re getting there. They could still improve, but I don’t think there are a bunch of great teams out there. Most of the teams in the Big East were better last year than they are this year and a good many of the teams in the Big 12 were better last year than this year. Texas is better, Kansas is better because they are more experienced and older. Missouri isn’t better, Kansas State might be a little better, but nobody else in the league is better than they were last year."

Fran: "I think right now there's probably 2 1/2 teams that can get to the Final Four out of the Big 12 at this moment and that would be Kansas and K-State and maybe Texas. If Texas gets it together you can say three. I think Kansas State can just get into a street fight with you and can win four games, I do think they’re capable of doing that, they’ve got that much depth now. They can make like a Sweet 16 game really ugly against say Villanova and beat them. I just think if Texas gets their mojo back, but right now Kansas is really the only team that I’d say, 'Hey, I can see them in the Final Four.'"

Have we been tunnel dancing?  If not, i blame all bad play at home on lack of tunnel dancing.

The tunnel dancing has been there. I blame it on the crowd though. Not enough cheering and laughing during the tunnel dancing.

Maybe 'vious needs some new moves? :dunno:

Ash Wednesday?  shazbot! catholics.

I'm catholic, attended the game, then went to 10 church at St. Isidore's.

My post wasnt about the game.  just a general statement.  shazbot! catholics.

And this thread is about students not attending the game. I was just pointing out it was possible to attend the game and still make it to church.

Gonna remind me of the Hoskins-Walker year.

This. Our whole team wore headbands that year.  I kinda miss them.

Off topic, does anyone else wonder how Chism's (Tenn) headband stays on?

On how tough the Big 12 is.

Earlier in the week, I blogged about the Big 12 coaches standing up for their little conference as being the best in the nation, right up there with the Big East. There clearly remains a perception among Big 12 coaches that the league doesn't get proper respect, especially from those immersed in East Coast hoops. Later I'll have a column up looking at the Big 12's strengths and which teams are in the NCAA Tournament and which teams are on the bubble.

But, first, Kansas State coach Frank Martin's comments from Monday's coaches teleconference need to be shared. Always intense, always animated and always sincere, Martin laid down the hammer when asked if this is a season in which a Big 12 team with an 8-8 conference record, or even 7-9, deserves a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Enjoy:

"I would hope so. It’s the whole body of work, it’s what you do in conference and in non-conference, it shouldn’t be about the first 10 or the last 10, it should be about what you do the whole year. And our league should not get discredited in any way, shape or form because teams are beating each other up in our league. On the contrary, our league should be applauded because as a whole we had so much success in the non-conference schedule against all the quality teams across the country, not just some, all of them, of every league across the board.

"And now that we’re in league play, I’m tired of hearing people say that Texas got issues. Texas don’t have issues, it’s that our league is good. I’m tired of hearing people say that we’re not playing well. We are playing well, it’s that our league is good. Our league is good top to bottom, there’s not an easy out. There’s some big-time coaches in this league. I said this from the word go: Everyone discredited Missouri before the season. How different are they from Villanova? They return all their guards and have substitute front-line guys that are now their starters. It’s the same thing Villanova did, but Villanova’s in the Big East so everyone says 'Well, they’re great.' Well, Missouri’s in the Big 12, well Missouri was one game away from being in the Final Four, a couple possessions away from being in the Final Four, and for whatever reason they were viewed differently than Villanova was going into the year.

"But that’s our job as coaches in this league, is to keep winning and keep doing what we’re doing and get our league to be the best league in the country and the RPI, and if we keep doing that all that takes care of itself."

And exhale.

Yeah no kidding. Those games in Iowa are much more important. What was He thinking?

3611
They were legit in the fact that they actually went in.

But, no, I don't think he was trying to bank it.

We definitely chose the right night to be money from the line. Hopefully this is a rising trend for our team.

Can we get back to talking about Dom? He gave me plenty of fist pumping moments tonight. I saw him square up for the first three and I was like  and after it went in I was all  :pbj: :pbj:

Great game, I was happy that he scored 20 with those free throws down the stretch.

3614
No over-the-shoulder-triple-assist-to-Kelly-dunk?

I did like the rest of it though. good work.

3615
After a disappointing first half, I was pleasantly surprised with all the fist pumping moments.

Edit: For anyone wondering, its at 1:58:25 on ESPN 360.

3616
Kougz, can you put this into your photoshop machine for me?  I want to see it with the stands all around and stuff to make sure it looks ok.
