I know of a story* of a game where we were blowing out some directional school in like 99 or 2000 and a guy who was the John of that era walked all the way onto the sideline, to the KSU bench, and up to Snyder during the 4th quarter and said "put me in coach!".

Pretty sure security then got involved.

*possible urban legend

True story, was a member of the POWL

Could Morgan Burns, Will Davis, and Mike Moore be any worse than the guys starting over them?

Add Jordan Willis to this list.

Anyone watching the game hear when they were talking about Clowney's ventilated equipment or something?  I missed it.  They talked a little about it then zoomed in on him and talked about how he is already exhausted and not in shape.

After talking nonstop in the pregame show about how he is in the best shape of his life.

Kansas State Football / Re: 2013-2014 K-State budget
« on: August 05, 2013, 07:49:50 PM »
On the expenses side, I see that debt service is projected to be $5.48 million.  How much debt do we actually have on our books to make our annual payments be this high?  It has to be near $80 million, doesn't it?

We have 81.3M in long term debt, 53.6M of which was issued in 2012 for the WSC and BB training facility. We received record amounts of contributions but it still wasn't even close to the full cost of the new facilities. They weren't given all up front either.

you seem 2 kno wtf you're talking about here so i'm gonna lay it on the line w/ you.  do you think $81.3m is a lot of long term debt?  seems pretty pud.  my move would be to borrow more, while the borrowing is cheap.  a lot more, not just a little.  fort knox type crap, and i kno you kno wtf i'm talking about.  can i get some input from you on my data?

We probably could have issued more since we are currently sitting on a giant pile of cash (49M  :kstategrad:, up 19M from last year), but I can see why they didn't since interest rates are rising again. We are already going to be paying around 3M in interest next year and 48.8M over the life of the bonds we issued.

Sounds like you have a high deductible plan if it doesn't cover prescriptions. Odds are you are saving money in premiums over a plan that has a prescription co-pay if you only see the doctor once a year.

We spend $278,500 on parking?

Am I reading this right?

Could be that Kansas State University or another K-State entity owns the parking lot and K-State Athletics, Inc. (the AD) just leases it from that entity.  :dunno:

What we don't know:  How we account for "profit" or how we alocate "profit" $$$.
As has been discussed on here, K-State counts all donations made during the year even if some of the money is pledged and won't be received until some future year.  For example, for WSC assume donors in the luxury boxes had to make a 5 year commitment... they've given cash to K-State for year 1, but won't give K-State the money for years 2 through 5 until the future.  However, K-State is counting all of that cash in the current year.

We are just accruing the contributions revenue and we leave the rest as a receivable. We still have a profit (just not from a cash flow perspective). It's a perfectly acceptable accounting treatment.

I'm not familiar with athletic departments, but the vast majority of companies use the accrual method instead of the cash method.

Contributions decreasing nearly $12m from '11 to '12.  I'm guessing this has a lot to do with donations towards the westside expansion in '11, but it's still a little strange.

I believe USA Today has this incorrect on their summary. For 2011 they are using the contributions line item from the financials plus the two separately stated contributions line items further down for the WSC and BBTF. For 2012 they are only using the contributions line item and they have apparently included the separately stated contributions somewhere else. I think this is why total revenue has not changed much while contributions have.

I could be wrong though.  :dunno:
