Also, I doubt Israel is neighborly enough to pay for it.
Yeah the third part won’t happen right away but Israel will pay over time some other if that really is their plan to expel all the Palestinians and ethnically cleanse Israel from the river to the sea, whether in money, blood or both.

I favor a 3 part solution where Israel stops what they are doing, the neighbors take the refugees, and Israel pays the neighbors for their trouble.
Good news!
Pete that is pretty much Israel’s plan

Bad news!
They are going to kill, maim, starve, make homeless, and detain a bunch more Gazans (mostly kids) before the last two steps happen.

Egypt seems very unwelcoming to the Palestinians. It’s as if they don’t really give a crap about the Palestinians and are really just on Team eff Israel.

I don't think Egypt should have to take refugees that Israel has already expelled once and is now trying to expel a second time.

This is so bleak.

From the Financial Times today:

Quote
A nascent plan, brokered by Egypt, to allow Palestinian policemen to return to work without weapons or uniforms to guard the convoys has yet to bear fruit, said UNRWA’s Anderson.

“We have a mishmash of police basically trying to show up and help, at great risk to themselves,” he said.

Israel had dropped flyers in Rafah in Gaza this month with a photo of a destroyed Palestinian police car, which had been bombed by an Israeli war plane while guarding a food convoy on February 6. “Our message is clear; the Israeli security services will not allow the security apparatuses of Hamas to continue working,” the flyers said.

If only we could have kept double tapping weddings with drone strikes, we could have kept Putin honest on Ukraine!!

what is the most peaceful period in world history against a high school teacher's overactive conscience, i ask you.
Putin blames US for invading Ukraine because they expanded NATO.

Putin blames US for invading Ukraine because they withdrew from Afghanistan.

How are these different?

i don't think the tone of this thread reflects the current reality in ukraine (us aid stopped, ukraine running out of munitions and men, russia advancing) very well.

things have only gotten worse over the last month.  it's incredibly depressing how badly we've mumped up.  i suspect we will endure the consequences of these mistakes for the rest of our lives.

I think it is hard to say that Ukraine would have for sure prevailed if the US and other allies continued the same level of support.

I think the sanctions not really working and Russias war time economy being so good has been hardly discussed.

next week is Michigan's democratic primary, should get some early data on how much Gaza is affecting Biden in Michigan with the protest vote being organized. I would prefer the protest vote is high enough to prompt some worry from Biden instead of dismissing it and then losing in November.

I think he's just never been to a grocery store before

It was not as straightforwardly funny as Dr. Oz clearly entering one for the first time and complaining about the price of crudités he paired with guac.

split squats may be the hardest thing ever invented. somehow it pushes both my legs to their limits

ALSO i don't even use weights!
ALSO i biked 3000 miles last year and have enormous beefcake quads, doesn't even matter

bulgarians are for building a donk

36
Fellas two things that I suck at and wish I didn't suck at are deadlifts and bulgarian split squats. at this point it tis what it tis though

bulgarians suck but I can do them. I had a hard time figuring out how to stabilize my back foot. I just realized I'm a little weird and like to have my ankle and knee rotated a lot more than others and once I figured that out it was fine. I also prefer dumbbells in each hand to a kettle bell. I always feel like goblet squats are better with a dumbell too if they are the rubber hex shape.

I also suck at deadlifts and have tried them with the trapbar and it is less risk on the back, but I am still working on my form and going lower weight for the reg deadlifts until I feel solid.

Classic whataboutism

I don't see any former SOS who placed their son on the board of an uber corrupt corporation in an uber corrupt foreign country while they were the sitting VPOTUS or SOS, tho
Can’t we all agree Jared Kushner has only been above board and transparent in his dealings?

Fargo Season 5 was decent, but I am a John Hamm fan, so that made me look more favorable on it then it really was.  Hit a nice stride for a bit and then got dumb.

I am enjoying the latest season of Slow Horses, but that may be partially driven by the fact that Gary Oldman is also one my favorite actors.

I plan on starting Curb in the next day or so.

starting curb from the beginning or new season?

Going to PV this summer, but staying in a house on the beach with a chef. I’m not sure if we’ll leave the house. Wondering if there’s any must dos with girls that are 9 & 7.
I am very open to people suggesting accommodations, pm with details if you don’t mind!

does a pretty good job of defining some of the ideological divisions within the dem coalition and how those may be increasingly in conflict if the trump threat ever recedes.

https://twitter.com/MattGlassman312/status/1734716829950419124

I read the silver essay. It is definitely true that cultural grievance is the main engine of "mass politics" and not materialist concerns. But I have another triangle/pyramid that would suggest it is pretty naïve to think that it is what is actually the engine of people's lives.

There is just an incredibly strong consensus about preserving the base, even with Trump and Biden's turn against the "neoliberal free trade consensus" that Douthat was talking about today and everyone exercises themselves up about.

As for the electoral side:
The Democrats were willing to basically take on the Stephen Miller/Trump immigration program for some money for Ukraine and Israel shows how out of touch they are with their voters and the general public but even this too is just pure theatre.

The song remains the same...
Biden will find a way to get weapons and money to Ukraine and Israel. For instance, Pakistan got $1 billion of their IMF loan forgiven by the US because they made ammunition and bombs for Ukraine, the US also helped the Pakistani military depose Khan who then miraculously won a majority of the parliament seats because the military was too overconfident about their ability to control the election) https://theintercept.com/2023/09/17/pakistan-ukraine-arms-imf/#:~:text=Sipa%20via%20AP-,U.S.%20Helped%20Pakistan%20Get%20IMF%20Bailout%20With%20Secret%20Arms%20Deal,former%20Prime%20Minister%20Imran%20Khan.

What was Trump's big accomplishment? A tax cut. People are kidding themselves if they think the story is about drag queen story time or anything happening on a college campus.

Another hospital is evacuated in Gaza where thousands of Gazans are sheltering.

What is the end point? Is there anyone here that still supports this?

saying someone who is good at sports or something is "crack" or "cracked"

I just heard my kid and her friends use that this weekend!
this sounds made up

It's probably a coastal elite thing, you'll hear it in a couple years

it is a gamer thing I have heard it from the mouths of my youth

In hindsight, I think MGMT was super underrated. Like they weren't just a good band at the time. They were one of the top ones.

One of my friends went to KU and when I was up there we were listening to “Kids” and his roommate said his girlfriend blew the bass player and so he didn’t like them anymore.

There are several options for U.S. action on this issue, including:

Bilaterally recognizing the state of Palestine.
Not using its veto to block the UN Security Council from admitting Palestine as a full UN member state.
Encouraging other countries to recognize Palestine.
