Essentially Flyertalk / Who is your Nemesis and who is your Archenemy?
« on: February 04, 2010, 07:13:13 PM »
    * Recognizing Your Nemesis:

At some point in the past, this person was (arguably) your best friend.

You and this person once competed for the same woman, and you both failed.

You have punched this person in the face.

If invited, you would go to this person's wedding and give them a spice rack, but you would secretly hope that their marriage ends in a bitter, public divorce.

People who barely know the two of you assume you are close friends; people who know both of you intimately suspect you profoundly hate each other.

If your archenemy tried to kill you, this person would attempt to stop him.

    * Recognizing Your Archenemy:

Every time you talk to this person, you lie.

If you meet someone who has the same first name as this person, you immediately like them less.

This person has done at least two (2) things that would be classified as "unforgivable."

The satisfaction you feel from your own success pales in comparison to the despair you feel from this person's personal triumphs, even if those triumphs are completely unrelated to your life.

If this person slept with your girlfriend, she would never be attractive to you again.

Even if this person's girlfriend was a hateful bitch, you would sleep with her out of spite.

Look, if the consensus here is that Denis has a good, not great, handle - cool. No shame in that. It's just not true, but believe what you want. It's a free country.

I guess it all depends on what we are talking about here.  Can Denis easily create his own shot off the dribble/does he have a crossover/does he dribble too far out in front on fast breaks/not have solid pgbbiq?  Yes, agreed.

But saying that he gets constantly picked off for steals is misleading.  Maybe you were overselling what you thought to be an obvious underlying truth, but you got caught out as bad as Denis ever has on that first post.  You can modify, and I will agree that Denis has some serious capital "P" PG problems, but don't think for a second that your opening post didn't just get taken for a dunk at the other end.

Mitch is firmly out of the friend zone and is treading a dangerous path towards foe/nemesis territory.

His review of the Guantanamo "suicides" has been devastating.  For those of you that still doubt that the United States government tortured and killed prisoners that they are supposed to care for and protect.  These prisoners include those that were scheduled to be released and probably guilty of no crime.  If you have not dealt with this yet, then you have willfully closed your eyes.

Open them.

The official response so far has been denials, non-denial denials and lies:

This blatant misrepresentation of the truth infuriates me. I don’t know who Sgt. Hickman is, but he is only trying to be a spotlight ranger. He knows nothing about what transpired in Camp 1, or our medical facility. I do, I was there.

Below is the latest on the irregular autopsies that included the removal of the throat that was never returned to the family for the secondary autopsy by the U.S. government.

not pressuring teams on fast break.  The most ridiculous stat is the .3 increase in free throws indicating that "Denis holds the ball more this year."  Not sure about that article, seems like he let perceptions mold the piece and then scratched for stats instead of actually testing a hypothesis.

Just realized I called you "SteeFighter" in my props tweet to you. You deserve better. I fixed it.

You can make it up to me by posting a YouTube of you and Cole fighting.

Are you allowed to upload videos that run under 2 seconds?

Poetwarrior slo-mo treatment.

Turbo tax?

I want to try this, how long does it take and can a Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) monkey do it?

Very easy.  I switched to Turbo Tax this year after having used TaxCut (H&R Block's product) for the last 5 years.  Turbo Tax is smoother...they both do just fine in the actual "calculation" and what not.  I had issues with TaxCut only letting me efile one of my states, but Turbo Tax let me efile both.

I'd do Turbo Tax over Tax Cut.

Once you buy one of those, do you shell out for updates every year?

Ya, you have to re-purchase it every year.  You can download the "upgrade" or whatever, but I just pick one up at Best Buy every year.  It really is the easiest and most cost effective way to go.

this really dicks over those crappy conferences.  Their George Mason moment will be beating a SLTH or two and getting their asses kicked by a big time program like us.

I just called my bookie and opening odds have a levi KO paying even odds.  You can lock in a fight to the draw at 5 to 1.  A manbeck win on points plays 20 to 1 and a manbeck KO of Levi is a longshot I'm playing as it pays with 50 to 1.

Manbeck may have the physique of a 6'2" manute bol, but he does have reach and if he doesn't get into a ground game he could sting and maybe play to a draw.

If Gill ends up being Ron Prince v2.0, I'll be the first to give you guys credit.  I just don't see what's not to like.  If you're really basing everything on his coaching record at Buffalo, then you don't understand how bad Buffalo was when Gill took over that program.

There are not many examples of a mediocre @ low/mid-major to awesome @ BCS.

From the bleacher report:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/332706-new-college-football-hires-top-10-list#page/11

1. Turner Gill (Kansas)

Before taking over at the University of Buffalo, Turner Gill was the quarterbacks coach at the University of Nebraska, coaching Heisman Trophy winner Eric Crouch as well as Tommie Frazier.

Not only was Gill a coach at Nebraska, he was also courted heavily by the school out of Arlington Heights High School in Forth Worth, TX. Nebraska beat out Texas as well as Oklahoma because Nebraska allowed Gill to not only play football but baseball as well.

During Gill's coaching tenure, the Cornhuskers won three national championships.

Gill interviewed for the head coaching job at the University of Auburn— losing out to Gene Chizik—in a move that was highly criticized by ESPN.com's Mark Schlabach. "More than anything else, the Tigers needed to do something to sway some of the momentum away from Tuscaloosa," Schlabach noted.

Instead, Auburn hired a coach who seemed to be a dead man walking at Iowa State. In recent weeks, Chizik demoted both his coordinators and fired two assistant coaches. "That's not a sign of stability." - Mark Schlabach

Gill looks to bring the Jayhawks back into the thick of things in the Big XII conference, especially after they won five straight to open the 2009 season, then dropped their final seven to finish the season 5-7.

No, I'm sure he'll do great.  You're right!
