Kansas State Football / Re: Football Recruiting Thread

Recruiting takes some clout that this staff hasn't quite built up yet. Snyder 2.0 didn't go on visits and wouldn't allow coaches to recruit during the season. Plus you can be sure other teams used his age as a tool to recruit against the cats. That's why when CK took over depth and talent was an issue. This staff is still overcoming that. Winning certainly helps. Losing to ISU 3 out of 4 years does not.  Prince was a dumpster fire with burnt bridges and JUCO's.

CK's first class was a scramble to put together. There have been a lot of transfers from that class. Duke and Beebe are probably the gems of that first class. It's going to take time to build depth particularly at a program that would be considered a developmental program. It's rare for K-State to have a Deuce Vaughn that comes in and plays as freshmen, was even the case with Snyder. This staff has done a pretty good evaluation of some of the under the radar players (Vaughn, Felix to name a few, and I think Kanak's first big offer was KSU). QB wise I think is where a lot to be desired. Lewis and Howard not ready or capable of being a D1 QB. Who knows with Rubley.

As far as staff goes, Braet is the director of recruiting and according to the website there are 4 support staff that have recruiting in their title. Not sure if that is all or how that compares as not all schools list support staff but I have heard some of the larger programs have significantly more than that. Would be nice if K-State's budget were more in this area as well as for assistants in general. They have repeatedly said that if they can get players on campus they have the best chance of landing these guys. That is the facilities and the investments that have been made. Covid hurt that. And yes I know every school had that problem, but K-State doesn't have the brand that some of the schools we compete with for players do. Like it or not ISU has a better brand right now with Campbell being a hot name. And certainly head to head when we compete for players the record lately is on their favor. But even they have their issues as has been discussed on this board regarding transfers.

This was in The Athletic about Kanak.
Quote
Clemson had 13 commitments heading into Wednesday and signed all but one: four-star athlete Jaren Kanak, who projects as a linebacker. The No. 1 player in Kansas committed to Clemson in July, but whether he’ll end up signing with the Tigers is unknown. Former Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables, now the head coach at Oklahoma, took the lead on recruiting Kanak. Venables told reporters in Oklahoma that he would not recruit Clemson pledges out of respect for coach Dabo Swinney.

“My relationship with coach Swinney goes so much further than the football field. He’s family to me,” Venables said. “In this profession, the pressure to win, to get players, I think people lose their way. And for me, that’s always been an easy philosophy and value system to have is just to do what’s right.”

NCAA rules prohibit Swinney from speaking about specific recruits before they sign, but Swinney indicated Kanak would not be signing during the early period when asked whether Clemson would add to the class in the next few days.

“Not necessarily,” Swinney said. “Anything’s possible. I think we got, what, three days? So it could happen, but it’s not something I anticipate right now.”

That's pretty strong from Venables. Normally I would think Kanak landing at OU is fair play, however if you're going to go on record that strongly, it's safe to say that Venables is a piece of crap if Kanak ends up there.

Totally agree. I bet He ends up being a piece of crap. Sooner fans will expect it.

He will do well there, hopefully he can showcase his talent with more reps now.  I think only one of our transfers the last two years has landed P5 and that’s Tee Denson.

Youngblood is at Rutgers but has not done much of anything

KU signs 5 players today from 7 commitments. May be why they have so many commits from the portal.

If he's not gone by now do we assume he won't be gone? Or wait until bowl game or what?
I'm guessing CK is deleting the reminder to renew Mess' contract in February or at least turning off the alert.

Garth is an OSU alum. They play his songs throughout the game. Until he shot down the rumor in post game interviews speculation was he was in line for the LSU job. Trolling or coincidence  :dunno:  but Gundy has been there long enough most undergrads don't even know Les was at OSU.

a nice little distraction to take our minds off our own problems :blindfold:. So happy I get to see it firsthand in Oklahoma.  :billdance:
