Heard on Petro today that football equipment sales are down 10-15%.  They should go ahead and put a retractable roof over BSFS now and get it ready for hoops season.  Football as we know it will be dead within 20 years.

We're an ag school, we use the barter system with Nike.  One pair of cleats = one sack of potatoes.

What does a bushel of corn get?

Barnes is gonna get pushed out  :frown:

Do any UT alum care about the program since Durant played there?

Hubert is one of my favorite Cats ever.  Weird, I know, but I feel like I've watched him grow up.  I always knew he was going to be great.  Never doubted him for a second.  And he is great.

John Hubert is not a student-athlete he is a gentlemanandascholar-athlete

He's a stud on the field, in the classroom, and at home being a father.

pretty sure i've called regan stupid a few times, doesn't change that your point is stupid too.

I accept your surrender

"we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents, or kids belong to their families"

i'll be honest, that sounds pretty stupid to me.

Since the US (like numerous other countries) has a way to draft male citizens into the Army, even against their will, couldn't you argue that the US Government considers them property of the state, and they don't belong to their parents?

personally, i don't consider people property of anyone.

So do you oppose the concept of the draft, or are you okay with it?

pretty ambivalent about it.  your point is stupid, so it really doesn't matter.

I'm gonna make your night - you just called Ronald Regan stupid!

Quote
Conscription "rests on the assumption that your kids belong to the state. If we buy that assumption then it is for the state—not for parents, the community, the religious institutions or teachers—to decide who shall have what values and who shall do what work, when, where and how in our society. That assumption isn't a new one. The Nazis thought it was a great idea."

Good point.  All those 18+ year old children are definitely property of the state not their parents.

Nice to know you literally stop caring about parents and their children the day they turn 18.

How is that racist?  :dunno:

Pretty safe to assume anything involving obamaphones has a racist slant.

You're assumptions are equally, perhaps more, racist.

Not really. Black people in the USA faced a centuries long campaign to deny them equal rights, and comparing them to gorillas/implying they are lesser humans was part of it. Poor whites who are on welfare, on the other hand, have not faced any type of campaign to paint them as lesser humans that are similar to gorillas.

And hey, look at this - http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=obama+phone

Why, its almost as if when you talk about poor people getting free cell phones, nearly every conservative in the USA imagines a black person. I wonder why?

35

:horrorsurprise: Wow, rare to see something post anything that racist. I thought they tended to stick to just forwarding an email to other people that's already been forwarded 20 times.

Seems like they go with the "God gave man free will," line of thinking. Fine, though this means God cannot be all-knowing, which may seem blasphemous to some Christians (don't know how many)

Also Fun,

First off I don't believe that the Bible got anything wrong, and I do agree with Chicat that you can't fully understand God.

If you believe this, then why worship God? There's no way of knowing if God is just, or kind, or loving, until you die. So why spend your time worshiping a being whose motivations are unknown? Do you just take it all as a matter of faith?

I don't know how that means God is not all-knowing.  You'll have to explain that to me more.

Adam had been given a Law to follow that in itself included the option to obey or disobey.   ...

Fourth, God didn't cause Adam to sin.  Adam freely chose, when presented with the fruit from his wife, to rebel against God.  Adam fell because he freely chose to disobey God, ...

Fifth, if someone doesn't like the idea that God knew they would be tempted and would fall, and therefore says it was wrong for God to let it happen, then what he would be requesting is that God not allow people to fall into sin, no matter what.  Think about it.  Freedom of choice means that temptations will occur.

If God did give mankind free will than God cannot know what decisions we make, until they are made. God got angry at Adam because he chose to "fall into sin," but that means God didn't know whether Adam would do so or not until the moment he did.

God cannot be all knowing if mankind has free will. If God is all knowing, then humans do not have free will.

I guess I don't know why you think that just because man has free will that God automatically can't know what we will do.  I believe we can have free will and that God can still know what we are about to do.  I believe God knows what we will do, but we have the freedom to do whatever.  Either seek God and obey Him, or not.

http://carm.org/questions/about-doctrine/if-god-all-knowing-and-he-knows-our-future-then-how-free-will  This link explains it really well.

Quote
I believe God knows what we will do, but we have the freedom to do whatever.

These two statements cannot coexist. How do I have freedom of choice if God knows what I'll choose? What you are telling me is that God has planned everyone's life, and just gives us the illusion of choice.

Why would God get angry at Adam? According to Christians, even before God created Adam, he knew what decision he would make when faced with the choice of eating the forbidden fruit. Why would he get angry at his own creation for doing what he designed it to do?

Example - Someone asks you if you want a shirt in size Small or Medium. You think about it for a second, and then say Small. According to you, God knew you would pick small before the choice was presented to you. That means there is no way you were ever going to pick Medium. The choice of shirt size existed, but the outcome was predetermined. The "choice" you were faced with was merely an illusion.

Taken further, this means every decision I've made when faced with a choice wasn't mine, rather it was the decision God made for me. How do I have free will if someone knows every decision I'll make in the future?

Goldy you just stated you think blacks are culturally inferior to whites, and then tried to claim racism isn't a big deal today, and did so without detecting any irony in those positions. I'd also remind you that for centuries that train of thought was that blacks were genetically inferior to whites, used to justify slavery and later Jim Crow laws.

Goldy - how can blacks be treated fairly if you and numerous other whites think they are culturally inferior? How can a black person be treated fairly if they are automatically below whites from birth because of their "culture," ?

he didn't just blame cultural inferiority. he said sometimes it's plain old laziness.

But isn't he still claiming his view is:

[White people & their culture] > [Black people & their culture]

?

EDIT: Goldbrick can you clarify something for me - what is white culture in your opinion?

Hard to define a culture. Ask most people what white, black, asian culture is and they balk in the same way that people generally don't define porn, you know it when you see it. What we have to rely on are statistics and tendancies of those races and cultures.

But are you going to deny that blacks attempt to shame each other by calling them 'white' when they have financial success in business, speak eloquently, etc. Even Obama got this levied at him, that he was a white puppet or talking down to black people:

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2007/09/jesse-jackson-s/

Now the question here is - why would they do that? Is it because blacks are genetically and naturally worse than whites? From all the responses I've seen, no one is arguing that.

Maybe that happens because African-Americans are much more disproportionately to be born to families who live at or below the poverty line. Do you think that might be the main cause as to why blacks commit a higher rate of crime than other ethnicities?

Goldbrick do you think black people are naturally more inclined to violence then whites?

Do you think that, in a perfectly equal society, blacks will murder, rape, steal, and so on at a greater rate then whites?

If your answer is no, then perhaps you should be looking at other factors that lead people to a life of crime, and not think one of the reasons is because they are black.

As a Christian, what are your views on Adam and Eve being cast out of the Garden of Eden?

It' one thing that's puzzled me about Christianity - who would God get angry? If God is all-knowing, then surely God knew that Eve would eat the forbidden fruit, even before he/she created Adam. Thus, Eve eating the forbidden fruit is something that was expected to happen. So, why get angry about a choice one of your creations made, when you designed them to think that way?

Great atmosphere, and a great game to be at. Really puzzled now as to how Montreal has 4 Wins, when it looked like they had no idea how to form a coherent attack.

Also, which one of you studs was in section 133, row 18? I was a few rows back but saw the _Fan Klein/Pullen shirt.

well of course he should have had a firearm

And how would that have made the situation better, IYO? If we take George Zimmerman at his word, then he would've been dead by a sneak attack when he we got out of his truck because he got lost in a neighborhood he spent months patrolling in.

Has any one won running a pro-style offense in college?? Teams have run the west coast offense and been successful but it takes tons of talent.

Pretty sure Bama and LSU run pro-style offenses, though NCAA 13 tells me Alabama has a "one-back" system  :dunno:
