That’s funny, my reaction was that the artist/phrase was done like half a decade ago and it’d be relative “olds” that appreciated (?) it.

2016. Already six years. The way stuff seems relatively recent to us longer as we age is a weird and interesting phenomenon, at least to me.

My weirdest thing is that when I think of the friends I had in eighth grade, I think of them not as kids, but as the same way I think of someone I knew 5 years ago.

Is this bizarro world? A four team playoff completely bones K-State and any legitimacy the Big 12 would ever have because it would be incredibly difficult for a Big 12 school to get in.

I hope like hell we get a 12 team or even 16 team playoff and they only delay it just to take the thing to the open market.

I assure you the SEC won't be bothered by how big the playoff is, they'll always get their bite of the apple first. We just hope there's enough of that apple left over for everyone else to get some of it too.

Isn't Gene on the committee now?  Let's just let him work his magic.

16 = 2-10
17 = 1-11

so currently at 90; magic number is 10 (so yes, must lose out)

I think KU will find a way to eek out a win somewhere along the way. Anyone feel like a wager?

The ESPN matchup predictor gives them 0 games with greater than a 10% chance of winning for the rest of the year.

The KU guys talk about how great the Big 10 is because all the schools look out for each other.  Yet they seem to be auditioning by giving their current conference mates the finger whenever they can. 

The more they hear about how the rest of the Big 12 wasn't happy with Goff's comments about looking elsewhere, the more they think he's doing all the right things, and they couldn't be more proud of him.  They laugh at Gene for saying positive things about the conference.

That place is so aptly named the 'phog'.  Those minds are just so fogged up over there, it's like you're in a dream, and you know you're in a dream, and you're just watching all this stuff that looks kind of real, but is just so detached from reality.  One minute this whole beautiful plan falls into place to be in the Big 10, but, then, wait, we're in the ACC?  Oh cool!  But why are we all excited to play USC?  Oh, no, we're in the PAC 12.  And we have the SEC shaking in their boots now, because now that KU is going to be in the Big 10 with Ohio State and Michigan, we have ALL the control.  lol  Oh, and those idiots over there at KSUck can't face the reality that they're stuck in the Big 12.  lol

If they continue to not be publicly committed to the conference, the Board of Governors should 100% Temple them. I mean what do they offer that Memphis doesn't? Not kidding ether.

According to the Big 12 Bylaws -

"A Member (a “Withdrawing Member”) may Withdraw, or shall be deemed to have Withdrawn, as a Member of the Conference: (i) if it gives notice of the intent to Withdraw to the Conference; or (ii) if a Supermajority of Disinterested Directors by affirmative vote determines that such Member: (A) makes statements or takes actions that are determined by a Supermajority of Disinterested Directors to evidence the intent of such Member to withdraw from the Conference either currently or in the future; ... or (D) if a Member otherwise takes or fails to take actions that are determined by a Supermajority of Disinterested Directors to be contrary to the best interests of the Conference taken as a whole."

It seems to me that with the AD out there blabbing that they'd jump ship at a moment's notice if they could that it would definitely be easy to tell them not to let the door hit them in the butt on the way out.

If they could throw up some end caps to the east stadium it doesn't seem like it would have to cost that much and could really help appearances.

What student parking? I always made a long hike to the stadium and never thought a thing about it.

I think my walk was about a mile.  No one thought anything about it.

And that was back when there was an ocean of parking available.  I don't know why we never thought to drive to the game.

How comfortable are we that the league will remain at 12?  The KU AD is talking crap about conference revenues, and how KU doesn't belong in a shitty revenue environment.

Kansas athletic director Travis Goff said Friday was “clearly a good day for the Big 12” in announcing four new members, but he remained noncommittal when it came to KU’s potentially pursuing other leagues in the future.

Goff, who spoke to reporters at Brooks Stadium about a half-hour before KU’s road game against Coastal Carolina, was asked whether Friday’s Big 12 news potentially stops other conversations while pursuing what’s best for KU.

“No. The beauty of it is, is when you think about being focused on what’s best for Kansas, that applies to anything we do,” Goff said. “It applies to conference affiliation. It applies to what we’re trying to achieve in our programs. It applies to the financial strength. It applies to fans and alumni engagement.

“And so regardless of all those dynamics, we stay centered and I believe more focused on what’s best for KU. What’s best for KU should be what drives us forward in whatever environment it is.”

Goff went on to speak about the importance of KU improving its stock in football before circling back to talk about the athletic department’s future.

“What’s best for Kansas doesn’t change regardless of conference discussion or speculation,” Goff said. “It’s still what’s best for KU, and it still puts us in the most positive, strengthened position we can be in the league we’re in most importantly, and for all the unknowns that are out there.”

Goff also was later asked if the Big 12 adding four teams “doesn’t close the door” on KU looking at something different in the future for conference play.

“Two months ago, nobody knew what was happening. So for us, it’s all about what we know. And what we know is we’ve got to get better in a variety of fashions,” Goff said. “And we have the most potential I think — I’m biased — but I think as much or more potential as any other A5 (Automatic 5), Power Five athletics program in the country. So that’s where we’re focused.”

Goff wasn’t shy about discussing the potential negative budget ramifications that will come from the league losing Texas and Oklahoma.

We're not necessarily talking about today, but if the Big 10 gets poached, it may open up a seat for KU as an AAU school.  There have been similar rumblings at WVU, which wants in the ACC.  Yeah, maybe not a candidate today, but like KU, further movement in realignment may bring that day.

they might leave but KU (or WVU or ISU or whomever) leaving would not destroy the new league like OU/UT. They also aren't going to move the needle much in whatever new league they jump to.

I'm pretty sure that if they left the Big 12 would figure out a way for someone to still win the conference with no problem.

when i saw them rush the field, i was reminded they still have chain link fence around their field.  i remember how bad we wanted the limestone field wall but the old railing was 1,000 x's more aesthetically  pleasing than what they have.  probably should have just gave them that.

I grew up with hand me downs.  It kind of made me feel important getting my big brother's stuff.

I have a question but I want everyone to know that I am actually being serious when I ask it…

Would the conference be better off from a future tv contract without ku? Kstate and ku definitely overlap territory and their football ratings are the worst in the conference by far. Like, if they and only they left and we added another decent random football school that doesn’t overlap geographic boundaries with another current school-would we be better off, worse or about the same. I’m guessing about the same.

They clearly don't want to be in the Big 12, so I think we should just ease their pain and send them packing right now. 

It seems like they pretty much have the pick of where they want to go, or they could get a bidding war started between the conference for them, or they might even possibly be able to pull off starting a new league bringing in the best of all the conferences.

It's clear that we've been holding them back.  I never want to be responsible for keeping anyone from reaching their full potential.

I am OK with a stadium that seats 60-65K as long as there are no bench seats! Tired of over weight people taking up two seats but paying for one.

But isn't that how they get the 3,000 people who show up to look more like 5,000 for the cameras?

I'm not going to go find the actual quotes, but the theory was being floated that A&M leaked the secret deal going on to screw up the playoff expansion for the SEC, so that A&M could scoot off to the Big 10 with KU and mess up the SEC plans since they were looking to take on Texas.

Also, they are thinking that the rest of the Big 12 is going to offer KU double the money to stay in the conference, but who wants to stay in a conference that is so desperate they'd have to make an offer like that?

It is amazing how these guys can be so serious about this nonsense.

everything that they signed up for related to GoR/exit fees will be litigated and there’s absolutely no way the b12 will be made whole when it’s all said and done

Litigating can go the other way too.  Not only are the exit fees owed if they leave early, but OU and Texas broke the bylaws getting to that point.  What do those two schools have to stand on to lessen what they owe?

I felt confident when Gene explained that it took him a couple of years to understand the GOR.

That's inspiring for us all.

If it took him that long, then that likely means OU and UT haven't figured it out yet, which is why they waded off into quicksand without a care in the world.

I think being in a 16 team conference would be horrible.  That's just too many teams.  The average person wouldn't even be able to remember who all was in the conference.

In football you'd only be able to play teams in the other division once every four years, and if you did the home and home thing like the B12, that's two games every 8 years.  How sucky would that be?  And you'd probably routinely have conference champions who barely even beat half the teams in the conference, and quite likely, it could be the norm where the champ doesn't even do that. 

The only way to play all the teams in the conference in basketball would be if you only played some of your division mates once.  Sucky again.  Most likely you just wouldn't play all the teams.

I think if you have a 16 team conference, it will be just like 2 8 team conferences, and when you win your 'conference', it doesn't really mean anything.  Maybe they'll make more money, but I just can't imagine anyone anywhere liking it much in the long run. 

There are times when you can do something you think is fixing one thing but it ends up breaking something else in the process.

Does the fact that it's got to be harder to win the conference title in a 16 team conference than in a 12 team confernce come into play anywhere?  I'd have to think that would be something of a negative.

And if five more teams come into the league, just to break even the revenue for the conference would have to go up 45%.  If it didn't, wouldn't the schools end up losing money on the deal?  I don't know anything about all the revenue streams, but seems like a big risk to me to make that big of a jump.

Yes, the hot dogs for Curtis were a retaliation for the bananas thrown for Donnie Von Moore.  It was a pretty feeble excuse to throw something.  They were trying to call Curtis a hot dog, which isn't really that big of an insult.  Not compared to the reason for the bananas. 

I was at the banana game - it just rained bananas.  They all explded when they hit the floor, and it made a huge mess.  It looked like some weird military barrage seeing all those bananas launched, I mean the air was just filled with them.  It took about 20 minutes to clean the floor up before they could start the game. 

It was kind of embarassing for the university though.  We were on national TV for that game, I believe, and John Wooden was there as a commentator.  He had just retired from coaching.  We felt pretty bigtime having him there, but I don't think he really was the sort of guy to appreciate the display that day.
